The Edge of The Wyld.
There is little to be said about The Wyld that has not already been said. It is immense, it dominates the heart of Alban, and it is dangerous. How dangerous though? Providing an idea maybe the best thing to do for the unwitting traveler. In the City of Avelius the highest paid job is lumberjack. Those brave, desperate, or foolhardy enough travel to the edge of The Wyld. A team of men will go out and attempt to bring in some timber. If those men do not return by sun down they are dead. In twenty years there has been no exception to this. That is the danger of The Wyld.

Eirwynn Rodrick

Physical Description: Of average height for a human, Eirwynn is 5'5" and curvaceous, with slightly-tanned skin and a sturdy bone structure. She has dark brown hair that falls to just past her shoulders, and hazel eyes that have often been described as 'mercurial', as their exact coloring shifts between varying shades of brown, gold, and green depending upon her mood. Her face is attractive, if not beautiful in an eye-catching way, and she has often been described as 'cute' - which is a surefire way to end up with a sword pointed at your face. She has a smattering of scars across her body, including one across the right side of her face that bisects her eyebrow and continues down below her eye, but that's likely to be expected, given her chosen career.

Clothes and Equipment: Her chosen attire generally consists of a pair of tight-fitting brown breeches, paired with a low-cut white shirt with slightly-loose sleeves, and a pair of low-heeled brown leather boots that come to a stop just shy of her knees. This is occasionally accessorized with any of a number of underbust corsets in varying colors, and/or a long brown coat that she often wears open. Typical accessories consist of a two brown leather belts - one wide, which seems to be purely for ornamental purposes (aside from holding her sword's scabbard), and a thinner one which carries a few pouches that hold various items (compass, coins, and a few heinous powders, mostly) - a red sash tied around her hips, and a number of charms and beads strung throughout her hair. She has two necklaces that she never takes off, one bearing a ship's wheel charm, and the other bearing a trio of roughly-cut semi-precious stones in black, blue, and white. She has a schiavona which never leaves her side, even when she's sleeping. What is perhaps her most distinctive possession is an oddly-shaped wood-and-metal club that she wears at her hip; despite its appearance, the item is in fact a weapon, and a projectile one at that, which she fondly refers to as her 'Thumper', given the noise the projectile bludgeoning instrument makes when it impacts its intended target - usually someone's skull. Enchanted by one of the rare wizards (who happens to be a close family friend) of Alban, the instrument is bespelled to return to her hand once thrown. It's her favored method of disciplining crew members, and they've all learned to fear the odd weapon, especially when it begins to emanate smoke as a sign of its owner's annoyance.

The Shrike soared in from the direction of the Moors, complete with its collection of odd inhabitants: King Averin Arach and his mercenaries, Gwenneth Barclay, Sir Cairex Forgepyre, Damtion, and Eliza Opal. The sails were pulled in as the anchors were dropped, and Eirwynn shot a glance to Captain Arthur Maddock, before she turned toward the captain's cabin behind them and rapped upon the door. Averin and the odd witchy woman had been in there speaking since before they left the Moors, and she honestly hoped they weren't being naughty.. she and Arthur were the only ones aloud to be lascivious in his own private cabin.
"Yer lordship, we've arrived at th' edge o' th' Wyld, an' 'tis too dangerous fer us t'fly o'erhead.. ye an' yer people will need t'disembark." She moved back up to Arthur's side and crossed her arms as the rope ladders were unfurled so that Averin and his mercenaries could disembark. She gave her captain a look, and smirked. Once Averin emerged from the cabin, she turned to look at him. "D'ye want us t'wait fer ye 'ere, or should we 'ead elsewhere an' wait there?" There was, after all, a Dwarven city to the west of the Wyld.. it was just north of them, actually, as the Fae city was due east.

Physical Description: The appearance of this being beneath his armor is unknown. The only aspect of his actual body that can be identified is his height. Damtion stands at eight feet tall.
Clothes and Equipment: Damtion is always encased in full plate armor from head to toe. No matter the brightness of his surroundings, light never penetrates the darkness behind the metal mask of his great-helm. He carries with him at all times a great sword, inscribed with unknown and ancient runes along it's entire blade, predating any known histories.

Damtion would have been sitting on a bunk below decks, his armored form sitting up straight and staring across the interior of the below decks towards the opposite wall. He would suddenly stand however, as they arrived. There were no commands yet given for the mercenaries to prepare to disembark either, it was almost as if he had sense their arrival.
Silently, the armored hulk would pick up his great sword, resting it on his shoulder as he moved up through the lower decks until he emerged onto the main decks. Damtion's monolithic armored form would be among to emerge from below decks, ready to begin the next part of the journey.
Once the rope ladders were set up Damtion would begin to descend down one as well, wasting no time. Once on the ground he would wait for the others to descend, particularly Averin, whom would give him and the other mercenaries more orders presumably. The immediate area seemed to be safe.

Physical Description: Wolf - stature of a large grey wolf, mottled patches of darker grey and black mingle in with a lighter grey coat. A single black patch of fur surrounds the blue eye, while the brown eye is surrounded by the light grey color. Teeth are sharp and well maintained, just like his claws.
Hybrid - His most common form, his coloring perfectly matches the wolf form. This form stands around 7ft tall, weighs nearly 330 lbs, with a fairly long tail.
Human- only used when interacting amongst civilized society, he is tall for a human, around 6'3" and about 210lbs. His long hair matches the grey and black coloring of his wolf fur, and the only distinguishing feature is his canine eyes and elongated canines.
Clothes and Equipment: Clothing - Cairex now wears a custom suit of armor, enchanted so that it will resize as he does, providing his already formidable wolf forms with substantial armor that is lightweight but strong, akin to mithril in both strength and weight.
Equipment - A good sized bastard sword and a small dagger are his only weapons, plus teeth and claws.

Cairex would follow Damtion down, electing to take the short way and leap down again. He was thankful that the trip had not been long this time, he hated that ship.
Still, though, something about the Forest seemed off, even beyond the rumours he had heard, and he was relishing the opportunity to finally do some real fighting.

Eliza followed Damtion, standing quietly on his right. It was soothing, having the hulking armored figure beside her. Almost like a calming teddy bear, but bigger and covered in steel and carrying a sword that probably weighed more than she did. She glanced around at the forest, shuddering slightly. She'd heard the stories, of course. Nobody who was in the forest after dark ever came back alive.

The shining metal gleams brightly in light, and it's edge razor sharp. Both his armor and sword posses some degree of magic, though exactly how much is known only to him.

Averin emerged from the private cabin. He was still in full plate and he looks relatively unruffled. There had been no naughtiness for Arthur or Eriwynn to worry about. The future king walks over to the first mate and considers the question. What did he want the Shrike to do? Be ready to ferry them back or should he set them to a different task. He mulls over the question thoughtfully.
"If you'd be willing I'd ask a favor. Head to Avelius and alert the city council of my impending arrival. Don't spread it to the populace yet since my survival is not a sure thing. I will pen a letter for them if you give me a moment."
Heading back into the cabin he pens a quick letter. It is a breif summation of who he is, what has already done, and what he will do. The letteris sealed with the Arach signet ring another heirloom from his father. He returns to the main deck and hands it to Eirwynn.
"Thank you for your help Eirwynn and Arthur of course."
With that Averin disembarks from the ship, it was time to either finish this quest or die trying.

Physical Description: Arthur is of roughly average height for a human male at 5'10", with a light but solid build of essentially no body fat at about 160 lbs. His figure, nonetheless, is very striking thanks to his hair (so pale blonde as to look white in almost any light) and eyes (ostensibly a light grey, but appearing silver in many settings). A very quick way to get on the Captain's bad side is to call his face androgynous, pretty, or anything of the sort -- the eccentric pirate has heard it often before, and generally responds violently. Considering his profession, Arthur has incredibly few scars... whether due to prowess in battle or cunningly avoiding it being a matter of some debate outside of his crew.

Clothes and Equipment: Arthur is almost always clad in one of several identical outfits consisting of his black tricorn hat trimmed in a dark red (and adorned with what the Captain often claims is "a genuine pixie skull, mate"), a lace-up white shirt generally worn unlaced at the top to help him stay cool and because he thinks it looks dashing, black lace-up pants worn laced up and belted with a length of silk cloth because it wouldn't do to have one's pants fall down in a boarding action, very fine black leather boots, and generally a black long coat with a very elaborate, high collar to shield him from both sun and inclement weather. Like many sailors he wears some few ornaments, primarily beads, in his hair -- even the few he wears tend to click together when he turns his head rapidly or in a strong wind. His only jewelry consists of an old silver signet ring bearing caravels on waves and, like almost every member of the Silver Shrike's crew, a simple necklace bearing a ship's wheel charm. Arthur keeps several daggers concealed about his person, like any sensible brigand, and carries his schiavona -- a basket-hilted blade much like a slightly shorter, broader rapier, a weapon of war rather than one for dueling and useful for both cut and thrust -- at all times, including to the head or bed. He has been known to carry a hand-crossbow for the initial stages of a boarding action.

"O' course, Ser Alvarez, yer lordship." Arthur seemed unsurprised at Averin assuming Arthur would be his willing errand boy. Such was the way of the nobles toward they thought commoners, after all, as Arthur well knew. His tone responding to the future king was an entirely deadpan monotone, and it was punctuated by a rather exaggerated bow -- his head went to approximately the level of his knees and he took off his hat, flourishing it to play up the bow even more.
Once the party disembarked Arthur would look at Eirwynn and gesture to the wheel, indicating she should take command and bring them into motion... and holding his hand out for that letter. "I s'pose we'll do as the man asks. Let me hold that for a moment, will you?"

"Absolutely, yer lordship." That was all Eirwynn said as she took the letter, inclining her head to Averin before he departed the ship. She glanced at Arthur when he gestured for her to take the wheel, and nodded.. but arched a brow when he asked for the letter. He was going to read it. She just knew it. However, she had no intention of denying him, so she simply passed the letter over with a sigh. Then she took the wheel and gave the order to bring them to full sail, and began guiding the ship toward Avelius.

Averin disembarks The Silver Shrike with the rest of the mercenaries. All told they were right around thirty strong, would that be enough? He had absolutely no idea. The arms master Caleb organized the men into files, ready to march. The current knight someday king takes a deep breath. This was the most dangerous leg of his quest. He moves to the head of the line and looks out. "I'll keep it brief. We've all heard the stories of The Wyld, some of you fought with me at Wyldthorn and know them to be true. We are going deeper into The Wyld this time and the territory is contested unlike when we went to fight the Archon. This will be dangerous, some of you will likely die. Stay cautious listen to orders, let's keep it to a minimum. COMPANY MARCH!" With that Averin turned on his heel and lead his men into The Wyld. <Exit to Deep in the Wyld.> |

Physical Description: Edward Laurént stands at 5'10. He has midlength black hair, and a clean shaven face. Previously his facial features were hard to remember, since he has begun wearing glasses they have become easier to recall. He looks to be in his late twenties, with a strong jaw, mid set cheek bones, straight narrow nose, and full lips. He appears to be in decent physical condition, though he is a bit pale.
Edwards eyes are an odd shade of blue, and they quite literally glow. With his glasses on, the glowing is the only remarkable thing about them. When you stare into his eyes when his glasses off though... it can be an odd experience. Staring into his eyes gives the impression that time has ceased to flow. Then you become aware of just how fast you are moving through the void of space. Most students avoid looking into his eyes.

Clothes and Equipment: Previously Edward only owned one suit of clothing. He retains these clothes, as a sort of work uniform. His style of dress when working is odd. He wears: sturdy blue cotton pants, an over sized coat of some unknown material, a sweater with a hood sewn onto it, and a large scarf. Each piece of clothing fluctuates in state of repair, and cleanliness through the day. If these clothes were not so eccentric, he could easily be considered a beggar while wearing them.
Edward has begun to expand his wardrobe in recent months. His first new accessory is a pair of glasses. Unlike other time mages, Edward struggled with turning off his time sight, rather than turning it on. His glasses are enchanted to suppress it. When not working he tends to wear casual clothing. Loose white shirts, and simple leather leggings. He also has a handful of stylish, if simple mage robes for special occasions.

Edward together with Azure and Temus Grey pop into existence on the edge of The Wyld. The professor sets the packs he brought down on the ground then says to the young couple. "Alright, this is where we part ways. I wish you the best of luck and I hope to see you back in Travere soon. I'd love to hear about your adventure. Ta!" With that Edward pops out of existence. |

Barely had Azure gotten her bearings than Edward was gone, and she blinked. Then sighed and tucked the box with the scale and the pouch with her Gem and the feather into the pack. Said pack was then slung onto her back and she looked up at the trees with a thoughtful expression. They were so.. large, and this whole forest exuded a sense of foreboding danger. Turning her head, she looked at Temus, and a vaguely concerned expression came across her features.
"Are you sure you wish to do this? It looks dangerous. And we do not even know where we are going, except.. the heart of this place, wherever that may be."

Temus blinks in surprise as Echoes vanishes. The man certainly was abrupt. Turning his attention to the vast forest before him, he sucks in a breath. The power here is palpable and he can feel it pressing against every bare inch of his skin. Not only that, but it was not a friendly power. It wasn't overtly hostile, but it was like a hibernating bear. It would take much to stir it awake, but if you did your existence would be snuffed out quickly. Turning to Azure she would see that there is a trace of fear in his expression, but in his eyes determination still shines bright.
"I have come to far to stop now. I will see you free Azure, just as I said I would."
With that he takes off into the woods. He can feel were the power is strongest, his ethermancy leading him better than any map.

The Trader had come with twenty or so Dwarfs along with him. They were surprisingly holding nothing short of pipes, torches and a single pork rib, but this was a mere show of good will. Each had a crossbow on him, and either a great-axe or axe and shield. All had come with a set of plate armour with scale and chainmail underneath, with a final layer of leather padding. Pretending to be chums with the fae was one thing, staying alive was another. The Dwarf needed to see if the Fae had anything valuable they were willing to sell, something unique, something that would not be found elsewhere and could be used in Goraia and Sakand. He tried to keep a calm air about but was frankly both filled with a sense of fun, and overwhelming fear. "Bjorn, Hrolf, stay closer to the rest." He called this out to two Dwarves who had wandered off from the main group. Quickly drawing his hand crossbow on a rustling noise, he put it back realizing it was just a squirel. Giggling a little, he pushed his comrades on. If untouched they would keep proceeding further into the wyld, looking for fae to negotiate with. "Come on, the fighting's over, play nice and show yourselves!"

Physical Description: As with all of the Fae, Ailionóra is tall and lithe, at a respectable 5'11", and although she is thousands of years old, she appears to be in her mid-twenties. She has long hair that falls to her hips, which is a mix of shades of auburn with golden highlights, and bright green eyes. She has a delicately-formed bone structure resulting in limbs and fingers that are just slightly longer in proportion than a human, and features that are wildly beautiful in an almost harsh and feral kind of way, along with the pointed ears possessed by all her kind. They wouldn't go far before a wall of vines sprang up to intercept them, and then a cluster of a dozen Fae dropped out of the trees, carrying a variety of weapons. They weren't led by their Queen, but at their head was a very imposing-looking male covered with tattoos. He slung his spear over his shoulder as he spoke.
"What do you want in the Wyld, half-men?" Peace may have come to the land, but old prejudices were hard to put aside.

The Dwarfs with the trader had all served lots of time as soldiers, were well drilled, and prepared for nearly anything. They did not draw their weapons and stood unphased, but some were looking up through the trees, looking for some sorts of shapes. Outnumbering them by eight, they knew they would not be attacked, but what if some were hiding? The Trader's left hand instinctively went for his hand-crossbow while his right went for his axe, but before touching the weapons he quickly re-directed his hand in front of himself, palms facing the fae, in the same way many hold their hands so as to calm someone down. The Trader was the only one not wearing a helmet, and tipped his wide flat brimmed hat. They would most likely not be allowed to kill him so he did not go to a pleading voice, instead going to the voice of a door-to-door salesman, confident but trying one's best to not be annoying or irritating. He decided to get right to business. He kept eye contact with the one keeping his spear over his shoulder, assuming him to be the nob. After all, the nobs always looked fancier, the Trader being no exception with his funny hat. He let the remark slide, since he was slightly out of his element, and someone else's playground. "Afternoon lads and lassies, I'm out of interesting things to sell to foreigners, and I was hoping you would have something found nowhere else! I would be willing to pay massive prices of course, since I will be selling them for prices even larger anyway. Finally, I was curious if anyone here was feeling adventurous and would be willing to leave this place, come with me on my trading expedition, represent their race. It doesn't look good when a country has four races but only two come, see? Pay'll be fair, same as that for the other lads, and whoever comes will be fed, though the humans complain our diet is too ale heavy." |

Physical Description: As with all of the Fae, Ailionóra is tall and lithe, at a respectable 5'11", and although she is thousands of years old, she appears to be in her mid-twenties. The Fae all muttered among themselves, sharing their opinion of the Dwarf's offer. The leader, however, scowled. After a minute, he made a sharp hissing sound which silenced the rest of his patrolling party, and spoke.
"You must come to the city and speak to the craftsmen. Only they can make such a decision as to their wares. You will come with us." With that decision, half of the group broke away to scout ahead, while the other six moved to ring the group of Dwarves, intending to escort them to the city so that they could bargain as they wished. Hunters were not the ones to talk to about trading and goods, after all. Assuming the Dwarves were compliant, they would be led safely through the Wyld and to the city of Scáth’leann.

The trader waved to his compatriots to go into formation. They walked in a rectangle, though a single one, short by even Dwarf standards was running around very quickly with papers and pencils, drawing what he could. The rest would look around with curiosity, but would not pay serious attention knowing they would never remember the path. Smiling the leader of the Dwarves would follow the Fae.

Physical Description: Not the most imposing figure when it comes to height at five foot nine, Keld never the less leaves an impression. This is mostly due to his penchant for wandering around in a combination of plate and a robe with a metal mask. Together with Sir Cairex Forgepyre, Keld comes to the edge of The Wyld. The werewolf had wanted to stop in The Moors first to ask The Wildlings what they might know. Keld had successfully argued that it made more sense to check the den out first. See in what direction if any the clues would take them. Rather than start spreading unsubstantiated rumors. Cairex had agreed and their trip had been uneventful. |

Physical Description: Wolf - stature of a large grey wolf, mottled patches of darker grey and black mingle in with a lighter grey coat. A single black patch of fur surrounds the blue eye, while the brown eye is surrounded by the light grey color. Teeth are sharp and well maintained, just like his claws.
Hybrid - His most common form, his coloring perfectly matches the wolf form. This form stands around 7ft tall, weighs nearly 330 lbs, with a fairly long tail.
Human- only used when interacting amongst civilized society, he is tall for a human, around 6'3" and about 210lbs. His long hair matches the grey and black coloring of his wolf fur, and the only distinguishing feature is his canine eyes and elongated canines.
Clothes and Equipment: Clothing - Cairex now wears a custom suit of armor, enchanted so that it will resize as he does, providing his already formidable wolf forms with substantial armor that is lightweight but strong, akin to mithril in both strength and weight.
Equipment - A good sized bastard sword and a small dagger are his only weapons, plus teeth and claws.
