"Haven't seen you around then....I'd remember your pet for sure."
The fairy sat on the countertop with her feet hanging over, slowly wiggling them back and forth as she waited for the fruit.
"When is the next shipment? I should look to getting out of here. The desert is no place for a nixie."

The boy handed her the peeled fruit, licking the sticky juice off his fingers afterwards.
"Well, that's hard to say. It depends on the sands and the winds. Everything does, around here. Too much wind and you have a sandstorm, too little and the sleds can't sail. Some traders travel by camel or lizard, but they don't usually carry as much. The Southern Spiral just passed us, which means there should be a trader here soon...they usually follow that storm. I'm not sure, though. Really, we just keep going and people come and go as they please. We just live here."
He chuckled, patting Yuli on the head. The lizard licked his hand and stared at the water sprite.
"But you're right, this is no place for a water fairy like you. What are you doing here?"

"I came here accidentally on a shipment a few years ago." She said between nibbles of the fruit. "I've been living here ever since. I'm getting homesick though. Will you help me return? I need a large body of fresh water to live in, like a pond or lake."

The boy shook his head, chuckling.
"Oh no, I couldn't possibly. This is my place, after all. I have to stay here and help run the inn. Who else would take care of Yuli? No, I can't leave here."
The lizard flicked its tail back and forth idly, looking up at the mention of its name. The boy patted its scaly head, and it laid back down.
"I'm sure you can convince a trader to take you, though. How do you accidentally come on a shipment? Did you get scooped up in a barrel of water? Hmm...the traders stop at oases pretty often, maybe you could live in one of those!"

She thought for a moment before nodding.
"An oasis sounds fun! Just as long as there's food and people to talk to. I didn't mean you join me, I meant if you could tell me when the next shipment comes in."

The boy nodded, pleased. This little fairy didn't seem too bad, but usually they were nothing but trouble, and his family would be pleased to see another one out.
"Yes, there's a few nearby. Shouldn't be too long of a trek, especially on a sled. Those sand sailors really know how to handle their sleds, and they skim across the desert much faster than you'd expect."
Yuli the lizard seemed to grow bored with the fairy that he wasn't allowed to eat, and wandered back into the dining room to continue begging for scraps.

"Hm...maybe soon then."
The fairy floated back over to the pool and sunk into the water once more, bobbing at the surface by her head alone.
"For now...sleepy...."
