"Apparently it's over across the sea." he sighed. "But it's a martial-tourney designated for close-combat... I am hoping to find some challenge in such a thing."

"Hm. Good luck with that. Gauldin, right? I might give it a shot too, I could use the money...."

"Perhaps I will see you there..." he said keeping his gaze upon her. "I may not need the money, but I seek something more valuable... Though I suppose that is in the eye of the beholder..."

"Something more valuable?" She asked, leaning on one leg as she crossed her arms.

He regarded Kelly for a moment observing the woman as if from a distance somewhat quizzically before responding. "A challenge, truth..... Insight perhaps." he said. "Then again I'm not exactly hurting for money so such things matter little to me."

"Hm. Well, don't worry, I'm sure they'll have an opening at the junior division."
Kelly walked over to shake Lamina's head.
"Thanks again for the sparring. Sorry for the aggressiveness at the end there. Hopefully we'll see each other around sometime. I'll let you guys talk."
With that, she headed out the arena with a quick wave.

Junior Division? was she insulting him? He gave a short barking laugh. He waved her off and then shrugged.

A moment later, he seemed to think better of it, procuring a knife from his cloak and flinging it past the womans ear, seeking to sever a few strands of hair as the dagger flew to embed itself in the nearest surface perhaps hitting the ground. "Lets see if that arrogance of yours is justified... Bwahahaha!"

Kelly turned around as Fenris threw a knife her way, giving him a weird look.
"Did you just...do an evil laugh?" She said in disbelief. The knife didn't even draw her attention.

"No? That is just a laugh, I can be rather jovial at times..." he said giving her a blank expression. Was he a little... erratic? "Do you wish to fight or not?" he asked; maintaining that neutral expression.

She looked him up and down before answering.
"You said you were entering the tournament, right? Alright, I can spar with you a bit...Where to?"

He looked her up and down as if she was a bit crazy herself. "Why not here?"

She shrugged and walked back into the arena, drawing her sword and placing her bag on the sides of the ring.
"Alright then. En garde." She said, waiting for Fenris to enter.

"En-Garde?" Truly she was Lamina's student, so given to the acknowledgement of pointless formality. The Barbarian was well acquainted with the arts and ettiquette of knightly and gladitorial dueling but had only taken from them what he felt was necessary and had discarded most of the "ritual" and "vanity" behind them. Still that did not mean he did not have a modicum of "The swordsman's pride"which was all but universal to those who took the craft seriously.
His cloak unfurled and as if from out of nowhere, a Krieg-messer was revealed as he looked at the womans slender-blade. The "War-Knife" was held in his left hand, and was the size of a standard hand and a half sword, featuring an ornate guard that combined both a cruciform and crescent hilt, the blade slender and tapering at the tip, while the pommel was more rounded than a blade of its typical make, and featured a ridged diamond shaped pommel.
The sword was gripped loosely in his hand, as the tip swayed back and forth, hovering a few scant inches above ground and at Fenris' left side, the angle of the sword and its vector subtly shifting in a sustained broken-rhythm of incremental fluid movements. As he closed in; his legs bent as his left leg slid forward while he seemed to lead with his left shoulder. Distance would diminish if she did not take counter-measures, and his blade swayed upward once within reach, its point suddenly aligning more towards her but dipped low towards the ground as he sought to press her, but he did not attack yet, he merely sought to get into her space and maintain his own guard. Testing her.

Kelly's own blade was held in her right hand at a 45 degree angle, pointing down to just in front of her right foot. She kept her eyes on Fenris' own sword, slowly advancing forward a few steps at a time to close the gap between them.

As she closed in, his right hand joined his left in grasping the hilt, moving to grip the pommel. His blade rose slightly and tilted towards his right, while he simultaneously made a diagonal step forward and in the same direction, his right leg stepping out. Fenris' hips turned towards his left as his sword adjusted bringing it down in a quick controlled diagonal chop at the womans left-shoulder/chest while his movement brought him off-line and opposite to her leading side, seeking to flank her as they both closed distance further.

Quickly, Kelly backed away to avoid the attack, angling her sword from its downward direction to one pointing towards Fenris' chest while keeping her hand low. She seemed to duck slightly, as if attempting to sneak under his sword slash the next time he attempted the same maneuver.
"Damn, figured you were going to use that." She bantered after the swipe finished. "I don't know if I can close in on that..."

Before Fenris had even initiated his previous attack, he had intuitively foreseen a wide-variety of possible responses and reactions on her part. She had chosen the safest option, which was a mark to her credit, as she might have been able to "feel" the looming-presence of danger that had faded away like a shadow after she escaped his ploy. His blade swiped past her, his hands lowered to his navel and remained half extended, the blade slanting forward with the point towards her belly even as her own sword threatened him. "You shouldn't be closing to begin with if you're using a rapier." he offered. It was true of any sword for that matter, but Fenris was "unorthadox" in his methods, as well as having slightly more archaic and "uncivilized" sensibilities, for the most part; he had made close-combat with a blade his bread and butter.
He closed in yet again, this time his blade seeking to extend towards her solar-plexus as he stepped forward, his own blade seeking to make contact with the outer-flat of her own, even as the tip also sought to make contact with her body. It was not precisely a thrust either, more of a threat, yet none the less it was probably not a good idea to let him touch her with the end of his sword. What's more was this time he stepped towards his left and turned slightly towards his right, but it was not as decisive a movement as last time. The whole action was almost... Passive-aggressive, almost predatory, like a wolf trying to decide if it was looking at dinner or not

"Shit!" She exclaimed as Fenris thrusted his sword towards her. She backed up slightly and to her left side to avoid the attack. With Fenris' advancement was enough for the two to be within striking range. After Fenris stepped towards his left she went in for a strike, shifting two steps upward and thrusting the sword at Fenris' right shoulder by bringing her sword upwards as she struck.

He saw her possible actions as silhouettes in his minds-eye, something any human was capable of given enough experience and training. She backed up, and he pursued seamlessly and with swift and sudden vigor. His sword tilting to his right as she stepped left, aligning its edge against her body so her own movement would produce extra friction, as he pressed the upper-edge into her to initiate a shallow and clean draw-cut to rip through her fabric, and the outer layers of her stomachs flesh. This was possible because the blade was quicker than the body, and it would require far less effort or time to simply adjust the swords angle than for her to step away from him which in fact was a two-way street.
Timing dictated this would happen before her lunge and riposte. The pulling motion of his blade saw it contract close to his body, narrowing his form. His blades lower forte` now resting on his right-forearm, while that same hand gripped the pommel, and his left hand gripped the upper hilt, pointing the sword forward in a bizarre stance that some might know as "key" or "schlusel". His head turned as his right shoulder lead, and his blade flicked up and to his left in a fleeting crescent arc to meet the rapier's thrust in a quick parry, with the blades tip, though with extra leverage and control provided by his exotic-gripping technique at the cost of halving his reach.
