Roleplay posts: 299
Age: 25
Physical Description: An athletically-built man weighing 160 lbs and standing 6 feet high. He has fierce blue eyes set into a wolfish face. His dark brown hair is usually pulled back into a braid on the back of his head. Well-groomed facial hair, for which he is proud of, covers the bottom half of his face.
=====
Clothes and Equipment: Ralf's primary possessions include his Hirhanic Shield, Mariah's Dagger, his Ancestral Sword, and his Ki'Gar.
The Hirhanic Shield is able to absorb various forms of energy: physical, magical, or otherwise. He can release this energy in the form of shockwaves on command. This item was a gift from his friend Hirhan.
Mariah's Dagger was looted from Mariah's corpse in Aozora. The dagger is able to absorb magical energy from its victims.
Ralf's ancestral sword is of exquisite make; it is an ancient weapon forged in a forgotten age using a rare material. It has the potential to channel 'the Power of the Old Gods', but Ralf is oblivious to this and the weapon is never used.
Ralf's ki'gar, or 'kin garb', is blue with white borders. A white wolf's head is emblazoned in the center, with the family name "VALGARD" written across the bottom. He usually wears the garment as a scarf or cowl.
Currently Ralf carries a a two-handed battle-axe.

I intend on creating a new faction for the Overworld based on ancient human history, and am looking for like-minded players who are willing to collaborate.
It is not a new faction per se, but rather a separate region. This region would resemble the Western and Eastern Mediterranean, and could host various factions, city-states, kingdoms, tribes, and budding empires - all of which must be at least partially inspired by ancient civilizations. The Romans, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Celts, Germans, Greeks, Persians, Egyptians, etc are all excellent examples.
I would play the host of this new region, controlling the environment, NPC's, wildlife, etc, and would act as mediator in times of conflict.
Before I roll out anything further, I would like to know who's interested, and whether you have any suggestions. Nothing is set in stone and everything is subject to change.
The original idea would have focused almost exclusively on a faction resembling the Roman Republic, wherein the players assume the role of senators and elect consuls, who then lead armies against outlying tribes and later rival empires (I would have played the opponents). Once a player made a name for him or herself they could attempt to become Emperor/Empress, and potentially spark a civil war. This would have chronicled the growth of the faction's capital city, its expansion, and evolution of its army. However, if players are more interested in leading their own, separate factions based on other civilizations, we can do that instead.

That sounds pretty interesting. Would the fantasy aspects be sort of on the back burner? Either way I wouldn't mind being a part of it.

That sounds pretty interesting. Would the fantasy aspects be sort of on the back burner? Either way I wouldn't mind being a part of it. I’d prefer mythological creatures and supernatural phenomenons, along with oracles, sages, prophets, etc familiar to the ancient world.

My main advice is don't bite off more than you can chew. If you're envisioning a whole continent or another place where there will be multiple nations and its own lore and everything, that's probably starting a bit too big. I'd try going with a single focal point first (one place, one city, maybe one civ) and going from there. It sounds like you're kinda doing that, just make sure you always have stuff planned. You'll need to stay 3 steps ahead of the players at all times IMO.
Otherwise, we all know what will probably happen.
Beyond advice, I don't mean to discourage. TFS is at a point where some new content will be very welcome. Just stay at it, don't give up, and make it happen. ^-^ Also, remember that no matter who does or doesn't express interest right now, those numbers will change when you get something functional up and running. So don't give up if you don't get as many bites as you'd like right now, because a lot of support will come later.

After considering what you've said, I think it *would* be best if we start with a single city-state in Open Lands and build from there. Another player has already expressed interest in his own city-state too, so perhaps we can collaborate on that end and acknowledge one another's existence. I think I'm going for an Early Rome type city state, whose initial goals will be to subdue outlying tribes (mirroring early Roman Republic history).

I like that idea, it would be more meaningful in my personal opinion to build your own faction from the ground up rather than be handed a city. I have a fondness for looking back when I started as dirt.
