Roy rubs his shoulder unhappily.
"Yeah...sorry, Vera. Helping her sounds like an adventure, I guess. Hunting Jotuns, which are apparently some kinda giant."
He rubs his face, which is still sore. Because he's a vampire, there isn't any visible bruising.
"But...don't you have druid things to do? I don't know what sort of thing you have to do."

Vera glares at Roy, the boy sure didn't know how to listen.
"I've explained it like four times! I go when the earth asks for my help. It's not something with a time table. If somebody starts abusing mother Gaia, I show up and stop them. It doesn't matter where or when it happens."
She hugs him again.
"Now Jotun hunting was it? That sounds like fun! I like adventuring with you, so next time ask instead of assuming."

"Yes, Vera..." Roy hugs her back, then glances at Grandma. "So...did you want to come along as well? I've never seen a Jotun before, so I could use some help..." He looks at Vera, then at his far-too-strong drink. "I suppose we could leave now, if that's what you want to do."

Grandma would watch the exchange between Roy and Vera with a neutral expression on her face. One might notice a hint of amusement in her eyes, but other than that she simply sat there as they went at it with each other. When Roy turned to her, she would nod.
“I’m personally ready to leave whenever you two are. From the looks of it, your friend here will prove quite capable for a task such as this.”
She nodded towards Vera as she said this.
“Also, forgive my rudeness, I haven’t introduced myself yet. Everyone simply calls me Grandma, so I would ask that you would do the same. Although I can’t promise to prove much help in dealing with the giants themselves, I’ll stay out of your way and make sure not to slow you down. As I said before, I’m willing to pay a decent amount of money for this escort.”

Royal Fletcher Grandma Renner Vera of the Celadine The Varan mostly keep to themselves but once Vera knocks Roy to the ground they all begin to hoot, holler, and cheer. They love a good fight, especially when two outsiders pick one together. Things quieten down when it seems the two don't engage in a full-on brawl, but a few whistling encouragements can be heard. Whatever the case, the bartender pours Grandma, Roy, Vera, and Renner some drinks if they need it. "It's on the house... thanks for the show," he mentions. The group can leave whenever they want. The troll would be out in the wilderness.

Renner watches the exchange, but stays out of the scuffle. The druid looked capable, and there was something off about the crone, maybe in the way she walked or moved, he wasn't sure. Either way, he decided not to bring himself to attention and let them leave.
After they had gone, he rose from his seat and approached the bar. Nodding at the bartender, he finishes his drink and puts the mug on the counter. "I'm looking for a place to stay. Doesn't have to be indoors. And whom would I talk to about hunting beasts on this land? I've traveled far in search of a good hunt."

The bartender poured more ale for the man, and then replied. "Those folks goin' to hunt Jotuns if you want to go with them. Otherwise, you could always travel in the Valland countryside. Plenty of beasts to be found out there. And you can stay if you'd like. Got some rooms upstairs if ye need one. Just 5 silvers... or some quality meat would do."

"A room upstairs sounds great." Renner pauses, "I think I'll leave the jotun hunting to the lad and his lady companions. I've no doubt the younger one has things under her control."
"Any big game I should keep an eye out for? I don't mind giving most of the meat to you; free boarding would be more than enough of a trade if I come back with something you can use." Renner drains the rest of the ale from the mug. "Now about that room..." He takes 10 silver coins from a pouch and puts it down on the counter. "And perhaps a hot meal?"

"Sounds good," the innkeep replies with a grin, sliding the silver coins cross the wooden surface and into his other hand. "Ask one of the girls about a meal, I just fix the drinks, and drag bodies outside if they start stinkin'." The bar girls would pick the roasted meats from above the fires and serve it to Renner, depending on what he wanted. "In Valland, if you're seekin' game, Asgeir Elk are noticeably larger than others you might find elsewhere. Or you could try your hand at Buunvar hunting."
Buunvar beasts were native to Asgeir. They had fireproof hide, and was like a mixture between a wild boar and a buffalo, and as large as a mammoth. Since the Barbaric Age, Varan men and women would hunt Buunvar down for their hides, which could be used to make their Ki'gars (scarf-like garments that all Varan wear, distinguishing their family crest/colors).

"Elk and buunvar it is then." Renner sat back at the table and ate his meal, which was rather good. He wasn't sure what the meat was, but it was pleasant. After he'd finished, he'd take another tankard of mead and drink it slowly while listening to the tales and the camaraderie of the men and women of this land. They were a boisterous lot, but after weeks on the road, it was nice to have a little noise to drink to. After finishing the mead, he'd head upstairs and sleep. It was't the best bed he'd slept in, but it certainly wasn't the worst. Just before daybreak, he'd rise, collect his gear, and head out to the Vallan countryside.

Renner made it back to the Blackened Bitch just after nightfall. Walking into the tavern/inn, he nodded to the barkeep and brought his belongings over to the same table he had occupied the previous night. He hefted the head of the elk he had killed up onto the table, spinning it so that the bloodied neck faced upwards and didn't leak any leftover blood onto the table. Then he took the rolled up pelt out of the thick leather strap he had secured it with and laid it next to the dismembered head. Finally, after placing his pack on one of the empty chairs at the table, he walked over to the bar.
"Thanks for the advice," he said to the barkeep, "you weren't kidding about those buunvar were you?"

( Renner) "No, I wasn't" the bartender replies. "But once before, to be a man, all Varan had to kill one. It was a rite of passage. My people like to use the fur to make Ki'gars," the bartender tugged on the cloth wrapped around his neck like a scarf. It was blue and green, the colors of his house. The bartender observed some folks in the background who seemed to be getting into an argument over whose beard was longer. "Idiots, do you see them?" The bartender pointed at the two men. "Never argue with the Longbeard clan." One of the arguing Varan, obviously the 'Longbeard', headbutted the other and a fight ensued. All around the inn Varan hollered out bets and threw coins at the fighters. "I don't mind the fightin', it's the mess I hate cleanin' up." The bartender then looked at the elk's head. "Not bad. The pelt'll catch a decent price, and the head will make a good mount." The bartender looked at the other heads mounted on his wall. "Hmm... looks to be the biggest one yet," he said surprisingly. "You're free to stay here, hunter, as long as you need too. Food is on the house too. If ye need anything from town, tell them you did Cnut a favor; they'll give you a discount."

"Thanks," replied Renner. "I left the salvageable meat in a pond near where I was hunting, if you want to send someone for it." Renner further describes where he took the elk to the barkeeper to facilitate its recovery. "I'll actually be keeping the hide, and wanted to ask where I might have it tanned around here. And please, take the head for your inn, I brought it back only to prove that I had felled such a beast." After their discussion, Renner would order food and drink and sit by the fire relaxing while partaking of it. Later, he'd head up to the room he had rented for sleep. Early the next day, he would head out with the elk hide to have it tanned, and then set off again for an area he had heard men at the tavern talking about: the White Pines.

Knight of Vengeance would find the Blackened Bitch easily enough. It’s old stone walls marked it as one of the oldest structures in the settlement, sitting right in the middle of town. Pork was roasting over an open hearth, which provided heat throughout the chamber. Various tables and booths were spread throughout, most of them occupied by warriors, skalds, adventurers, and townsfolk. They were drinking flagons of mead and other beverages while recounting exaggerated stories of heroic deeds, performed by themselves or accomplices. The general mood of the tavern was of easy-going, with cheerful reminiscing.

It didn't look like the kind of place where he could hear about a legendary sword to him, although he reckoned they could likely tell him about a legendary drunkard. He looked round for someone who could tell him about the Sword of Gormr.

Knight of Vengeance would find the group he was looking for. A large, round, oaken table hosted a handful of old and young warriors. The former were telling stories, offering advice, and answering questions that the newbloods had. It was this kind of oral tradition that made mead halls so integral to Varan culture: the passing on of wisdom and experience, from veteran warriors to their inheritors. "The Sword Gormr?" one of the veterans asked the Knight of Vengeance. "I can tell you about the Sword of Gormr. But first, I must ask... why do you seek Gormr?" The veteran crossed his arms; "you're not even Varan. Why would we tell you where you can claim the fabled weapon of Hemhildr?"

How was he meant to explain his purpose to these travelers? He wasn't able to tell anyone much about his role, and even then he couln't explain most of what he could tell. Instead he put it in a way that got across his point as well as he could. "To use it to protect those who have been overlooked by the rest of the world, and if I cannot protect them, at least avenge them."

Njod nods his head in respect for the Knight. "You seem a good lad," he said before answering his questions. "The legend says that Hemhildr plunged it into the stone, presumably in the lair of Slivr herself. The Old Gods have blessed the sword so that no one shall remove it unless they are worthy." The veteran looked around at the other attendants, also enthralled at the story, "but it is merely a legend. A myth. Only someone like you can prove it otherwise."
Njod drank from his flagon again, which had since been refilled. He seemed unperturbed at the thought of an adventurer hiking into one of the most dangerous places in the world to find something which might not even be there.
"All we know is that Hemhildr did travel into the Shattered Peaks, and we know that he did not return, and that the sword - Gormr - is still missing. The savage Mountain Tribes have yet to use Gormr against us, so we know they do not have it in their possession. We can only assume that part of the legend is true: that the sword is in the mountains, and Hemhildr made sure only a worthy hero could retrieve it."
