Somewhere in the middle of the land, beyond the eastern edge of Usque, is a floating island. Nobody knows the mystery of it's gravitational defiance, nor how the temple was built there... Perhaps it belonged, at one point, to an intelligent being with wings? Some who approach might even hear the squawking and screaming of harpies who have taken this island.

The months had been nothing but daze... Once again, she was entirely alone in the world, everything that was fought for was gone or taken away in a sickening twist of fate. The young widow lay curled on her side, staring off into the dim light of the small fire, clad in rough wool because her finery had long since been tattered.
She did not know how she ended up where she did, where exactly she was other than someplace high in the air, and that she was ill. She rolled onto her knees, and wobbled to her feet, which scraped upon the floor in her movements toward the front portal of the ruins in which she took refuge. Camilla felt the wind blasting her as she opened the warped door, and it was snatched from her grasp to slam against the stone wall. She winced as the sunlight pierced her eyes... She lifted the now, empty palm to shield her eyes from the blinding rays.
Chapped lips parted with a grunt as the door whipped again from the force of the wind, the edge slamming into her side. She stumbled outward, and fell to her rump in reflex, nearly sliding down the steep rock face that angled downward for almost a mile, or so it seemed. Her heart hammered in her chest and she scrambled to her feet, struggling to get back to shelter, which seemed so far away even though it was only a few yards by that point.
Upon re-entry, she pulled with all her might until the door was closed and she was safely inside. The former princess pressed her back against the frame and moved downward onto her rump, eyes closed tight as she held sobs at bay. This was prison for her. There was no way she would be able to leave without help...

A Gaulish air frigate skirts above the clouds. The wind caught in her sails, and her crew milling about the deck. "Land ahoy Captain!" The cry came down from the look out, and Captain Blake looked up in surprise. Land? What in the blazes was the man talking about? They were above the clouds, how could their be land? The captain of The GRA Intrepid, grabbed his telescope and searched. "Sky! A floating island." Blake grinned with excitement. Now this was worth investigating. Who knew what kind of treasure could be lurking there. He would investigate and claim anything he found... For king and country of course. "Bring us in lads!" The military frigate skirted in close, and the mooring lines where cast. Which is too say, two men with a slow fall spell on them jumped to the ground. Then tethered them to the island. Not long after Blake joined them. This was quite the find, a feather in his cap for sure. Time to explore!

By the time the airship landed, the former monarch was very feverish. Her teeth clattered that she could barely hear that howling wind. Camilla crawled to a narrow window, hoisting herself up because she could swear in that moment, she was going to die. Her bones hurt, her eyes were bright but sunken, cheeks standing out, lips cracked and dry... She just knew her time was up. Where would she get food to eat? Water? Et cetera...
The young widow squinted as she gazed outside... Off in the distance was a... ship? What the? Ok, she had to be hallucinating at that point. The woman surged to her feet, adrenaline pumping through her and helping her back to that door which she would attempt to open with whatever reserves of strength she had left... She had to be dreaming. Her arms shook as she struggled that last time to open that door, which, again, whipped from her hand once the wind caught it, this time swinging her round with it.
Her knuckles were white as she held fast, squinting down that slope as she heaved for breath. A few rocks dislodged themselves in her movements, and started bouncing down the slope toward unknowing explorers.

Captain Blake made his way steadily through the forest. They had spotted what looked like ruins further in, situated on the top of a rise. That was the best place to look for treasure. They come to the edge of the treeline, eyeing the slope. It looked steep and rocky, good thing they had rope. He cocks his head, was that... It sounded like rocks clattering. Shading his eyes as he glances up he spots a figure. A native? So perhaps not ruins after all. Blast. That meant establishing contact, no treasure for him.
"Bonjour! I am Captain Devrin Blake of The Gauldin Air Force. We mean you no harm, we are simply exploring."

She could not hear him... The wind was too strong up toward the crest of the rockface. She saw him though, just barely... Before her foot slipped again, and she no longer had it in her to hold on to the door. Her hands flailed and she gave a yelp, clawing for purchase as she slid down the earth. Pain radiated through her distended abdomen, causing her to fight harder until she stopped right before the edge where it was even steeper. She dug her heel into the earth and she shook with fatigue.
Sweat bathed her face and she lay as still as possible, obviously in distress.

"Sky!"
Blake cursed as he saw the figure begin sliding down the hill. Without a moments hesitation he begins scrambling up to meet her. The military man easily clambers up the hill, used to far more unsteady terrain. His men were not far behind him, as concerned as he was. The mage he brought with him stayed at the bottom, prepping a spell to catch them should they fall. It takes a few minutes but he reaches the woman. She looked terrible, and pregnant? Who let a pregnant woman wonder around on the side of a hill.
"Mademoiselle are you alright? What has happened to you?"

"Rand?" She saw something other than what was reality. The man who was stooped above her was not Evrand, obviously, but her mind had distorted his face and features into that of her dead husband. "I can't do it... So tired..." She was breathing heavily, "Can I let go? I can't do it..." She grabbed for the stranger's arm, and suddenly bleated out as pain ripped through her belly again... If he looked her over, he would not be able to miss the large wet splotch upon her garment, a good indication that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and she should probably be moved before she gave birth on the side of a cliff.
She twisted in agony, and fought unconsciousness.

Blake looks down at the water. He hesitates for just a moment, but not for long. Airships captains weren't known for being indecisive. He needed to get her help, and he needed to do it fast. He scooped the woman up into his arms, and turned getting carefully to his feet. This was fool hardy even for him, which brought a wide grin to his face. He barked out his orders.
"Doctor Os! Meet me at the bottom as soon as you can. Mage Nelmoy, catch me!"
Blake began running down the side of the hill. Right before he would inevitable trip and fall, he leaps. Magic coils around him, and his passenger. The aeromancy caring them safely to the bottom. He lands with a little oof, and grins at his mage who stares back at him.
"Captain that was reckless, you could have both been hurt. What if I was not ready?"
Blake flashes the mage a roguish grin.
"Bah Nelmoy, you are always ready. Now this woman is about to give birth! We need to make her as comfortable as possible."
The mage nods his understanding. They haven't brought any bedding, but Nelmoy conjures some blankets. Within a minutes a serviceable, if slightly lumpy cot is made. Blake settles the woman in it, just as Os gets to the bottom. The doctor assesses the situation and swears.
"Damnit Blake! I am a military doctor, not a midwife!"
The captain, doesn't even dignify this with a response. Os sighs and gets to work, ordering the captain to get a couple of rags. These are soaked in water, one is laid on the woman's head, the other to dribble drops into her parched throat. The crew gathers around to watch nervously. This was an odd turn of events, but that was common with Captain Blake.

It would be hours before the first little one came, and only a short time before the second. Two hearty, but tiny and early little boys came into the world. One was smaller than the other, they both gave little whimpers instead of crying, and the mother? She passed out soon after the ahh... rest of the lovely stuff happened. It was some time later when she opened her eyes... Weak, tired, and not out of the woods, but obviously in a much better state than when the sky captain first lay eyes upon her. For all intents and purposes, let's go ahead and say she had been cleaned up.
Golden eyes gazed about in obvious confusion -- she no longer had a fever and was actually coherant at that point... But where was she? Also... who.... was she? And... something felt off... What was it? She must have forgotten the legacy she was carrying with her... The two princes, the last in the Eremae line, as well as the D'arcy...
"Hello...?" she croaked out, blinking tiredly as she heard the whimper of one said bundle from close by. What in the?

After the birthing, Blake had seen the new mother and he babes cleaned. With that out of the way, he had ordered a litter built. The mother and the crying children were seen to the ship. They would need to get back to Niréal with all speed. He wasn't sure the woman had the strength to feed her children. Without a wet nurse, they may be lost. Fortunately The Intrepid was the second fastest ship in the fleet. If the flew all day and night, they could be home in two days.
The mother was settled in his cabin. She was tethered to the bed, to ensure she wouldn't fall out during transit. For the babes, they had emptied a small crate. Filling it with pillows and blankets, and securing it to the floor not far from their mother. Doctor Os was watching over the three, and when the mother began to stir he fetched the Captain. Blake came in just as she woke up, and he pulled up a seat next to her. His voice is low and gentle.
"Bonjour Mademoiselle, how are you feeling? What do you need?"

She started at the sound of the voice, her brow puckered and she stared at the man with confusion. Eh? "What...? What happened?" Panic was in her voice, just at the very edge, and she probably WOULD have fallen off the bunk had it not been for the fact that she was tethered. With the dirt no longer smudging her face, the man would be able to see she was an uncommon beauty, and would be more so once she had mended. Her features were definitely not peasant, that was for certain... There was more than a small amount of nobility about her.
But she, unfortunately, had forgotten. Everything. She had forgotten she had been hiding, she had forgotten she was with child, and she had forgotten that she was Princess Camilla Eremae, wife of the late Prince Evrand... And depending on who this man was aligned to? It might be a good thing she had forgotten herself and her past.
"I don't... even know who I am..." she said in stark, and frightened honesty, "Do you know who I am?"

Memory loss? Well that certainly made things harder. Captain Blake, considers the woman carefully. She was uncommonly lovely, but in the way of nobles. The kind of woman one courted, not one you bedded. She wasn't a Gaulsih noblewoman, that was for sure. She did not have the accent, and Blake would have heard of such a beauty. Perhaps from the kingdoms across the ocean? He had a ship load of questions, and wasn't likely to get any answers soon. He mulls over how to answer her questions.
"Unfortunately I do not. I will tell you what I do know, perhaps that will jog something loose. First introductions, I am Captain Devrin Blake. You are on my ship The GRA Intrepid. We were doing a scouting patrol, South East of the Gaulsih coast. There we found a previously undocumented floating island. I elected to explore this island, where we found you."
Blake pauses to clear his throat.
"So far as we could tell there were no other inhabitants. Currently we are on course for Niréal, cruising above the clouds at 21 knots. We should arrive before tomorrow evening. I will have food and water brought in for you."
Blake throws a meaningful glance at the crate, where the twins currently lie.
"I hate to ask... But are you well enough to feed? They have been quite so far, but that will only last so long. Also I would guess you would want to see them, I can bring them over if you'd like."

Feed? What? And then she blinked as she felt a tingle in the bosom area at the sound of one twin whimpering and starting to cry hungrily. Her face went beet red and it became obvious that she produced the creature that was crying now... “See them?” she squeaked, “Feeding? Oh gods... Ah...” She stammered, having crossed her arms over her chest as if to hide the natural occurrence.. Which answered his question. She was able to feed.
“Yes... I... guess I can see them.” Camilla was quite unsure as to anything at this point. She attempted to sit up a bit more if the tether would allow it, and reluctantly opened her arms to take one of the two infants, the look on her face saying it all.
Assuming he gave her one or both children at that point, or when he did, she relaxed as soon as she lay eyes upon them, and an AHA moment happened... She may not remember her previous life, but she knew out of instinct that these were hers... She did this... A myriad of emotion crossed her face and she couldn't help but smile in wonder as she attempted to feed, she was immediately in love.

Blake obliged the young mother readily. He moves to the crate, gently scooping up an infant in each arm. He hands one to her, the other he keeps for the moment. Cradling it against his shoulder, running a soothing hand over it's back. He manages to calm the hungry child, speaking to it gently.
"Hush now little one. It will be your turn soon enough."
Blake turns his back on the woman, giving her privacy so she can what she needs.

After feeding the babies, which caused her to doze in and out, she was asleep for a long time... Only waking for more feedings and other needs, which included eating when she could as well. Obviously this was taking a toll upon her, she needed rest and a wet nurse would definitely be needed by the time they reached their destination. At some point, she woke up on her own, no babies crying. She would check on them, make sure they were well, and then venture out of the cabin. Her legs were yet wobbly. Hopefully the Captain was nearby, she needed air... Fresh air.
She ventured no more than a few yards before she pressed herself against the wall to steady herself. Camilla felt like this was something she did always, acted stubborn... But why couldn't she remember before? Ahh, the questions.

Outside the door it the deck of the airship. The sun is just setting over the horizon, and below verdant fields sprawl endlessly. One of the crew members calls out, and the captain comes down from the stenrcastle. He eyes the woman cursorily, though not judgmentally. He understands not wanting to be cooped up. He moves to her side, offering her his arm should she want the support. "You are just in time, we are almost at Niréal. You will be able to see it soon. It is quite the sight." Indeed soon it loomed in the horizon. Niréal the heart of Gauldins air force, a city in love with the sky.

The amnesiac took his arm, saying a soft, "Thank you," in her smokey voice. In the days she had been on his ship, the young lady began to bloom again. Just then, color touched her high cheeks, and she had filled out with the nourishment given to her. She looked... healthy. Even her hair, which had been a lank tangle on day one, was starting to curl. She had washed it on her own at some point, it was a soft blonde-red color. The uniform she wore was slightly tight on her due to post pregnancy weight, but it was much better than wearing rags.
Her gaze took on the sight of the city and she gave a soft whistle, then a deep breath. "Oh, Captain, it's beautiful." Not even a memory was stirred by the sight of a city, she still didn't know who she was... She gave him a look, then, her eyes a little sad, "I've picked out a name for one of the lads... I am calling him Devrin after the man who saved me... I will call the other Falin... But what would I be called? You pick... And then I will gladly go with you to this new place. I have nowhere else to go, do I?"

Devrin nods his head, touched by her words. It was a great honor to have a child named after him. He gazes down at the city below. Niréal, a picture of order and beauty. The tall elegant spires of the ship yards dominated the skyline. They were practical, but also beautiful. As was the Gaulish way. They were approaching the docks, and soon they would be able to disembark. He was not certain what would happen to the woman. Arrangements had been made for her to be taken care of for a time, beyond that though... Well that would come later, now he had another rare honor bestowed on him. "Ambre, or as you might say Amber. It has a golden hue, tinged with red like your hair. It is also a gem, a treasure. We found in an ancient ruin, when we were hunting for such. It seems appropriate non?" As he finishes the lines are cast, and the ship is docked. It is time to see what fate awaits the newly christened Ambre. <Exit to The Airship Yards.>

Roleplay posts: 361
Age: 51
Physical Description: Reuna is a striking study in contrasts. She is just slightly above female average, height-wise, standing at 5'8", and is slender, with a fragile bone structure that makes her look weak; this is, of course, balanced out by her strength and skill in magic. Her hair is long, descending to her waist, and is purely black, which is a sharp opposition to her pale-skinned features. Her eyes are the color of amethyst, dark and intense, and are usually the only method from which one can derive her mood, as she very rarely displays her emotions via facial expressions. She appears young, in her mid-thirties, although if one looks closely enough, they can see the beginnings of fine lines around her eyes and mouth. Although few have ever seen them, due to her tendency to keep herself fully covered from neck to toes, she has whip-mark scars covering most of her back, and scars from long periods spent in manacles around both of her wrists, remnants from her days as a slave.
-----------------------------
Clothes and Equipment: Generally, Reuna wears one of five sets of identical robes, with high collars and long slightly-loose sleeves, in black, dark grey, purple, dark green, and dark blue. Commonly-carried equipment consists of her personal grimoire, a traveling writing kit (with ink well, quills, and writing desk), and a belt with pouches that contain various items (both magical and non); though perhaps not considered equipment, her raven companion Karrik always accompanies her.

They arrived on the island without incident, and Reuna looked around. It was quite lovely, but they weren't there to admire the scenery, after all. Turning her gaze back to the journal, she began to look for more clues. There had to be something else, didn't there?
