The waters surrounding Dolburimm are as unforgiving as they are wild. Jagged rocks jut upwards closer to the coast which hide an array of dangerous sea creatures. The Dolberese long ago learnt to traverse this maze of rocks as well as hunt and live off the beasts which dwell below. Currently, the dwarves have very limited access to the forest beyond their cove leaving this as the only point of access. Dolburim remains largely unknown by outsiders and, for the moment, is only stumbled upon by seafarers unfortunate enough to end up in this forsaken part of the coast.

Physical Description: Elizabeth, or Liz, stands at about 5'9", weighing in at about 160lbs, most of it muscle from years of riding and fighting. She has platinum blonde hair, usually tied in a ponytail to fit inside her helmet. Her eyes are a vibrant shade of green that contrasts well with her tanned skin. She would be considered attractive if she ever removed her armor, otherwise her face is the only indication that underneath the iron discipline and plate armor is an attractive woman.
Clothes and Equipment: Liz wears a normal looking set of plate armor that is custom fitted for her specifically, and does not hide her gender. She wields a lance when mounted. Javelins are carried in her mounts saddle. Her mount is a young Griffin by the name of St. George, he is full grown in height, but does not yet have the full mass of a adult griffin. She wears plain clothes when not in armor and her shield bears the symbol of the Dawn Riders on it, and her breastplate bears the symbol of Isra on it. She wears a small necklace with a purple gemstone on it underneath her breastplate, only visible when she she is unarmored. Her sword has the insignia of the midnight sun engraved in the hilt, as it is relatively out of sight and does not violate the military dress code. Her primary weapon is her sword, an ancient Elven artifact passed down by her bloodline. It is wreathed in green lightning when unsheathed and wielded by her, and she has a sunmetal shield that complements it with magical abilities of its own.

The patrol had gone well so far. They had taught some of the griffins to fish on their second day on the coast by throwing their food into the ocean until one had finally caught on to the whole fishing thing, promptly dunking her rider into the sea. Elizabeth made a mental note to get one of the leatherworking guys to figure out how to waterproof the leather straps that kept them from falling off during aerobatic maneuvers. During the previous day's fishing expedition one of her squad leaders had spotted the rocks off to the south, and so she had resolved to investigate them. There was always a small chance that the rocks were home to griffins. And new griffin populations were always beneficial to the City of Isra. About 30 miles into their southern journey over the sea, her lead elements had spotted a single, unknown ship in the distance. She wasn't aware of any travel in the area, so she signaled her platoon to investigate.

Dolburese ships are stout and durable. Each one if crafted by a craftsmen who has been creating pieces of art from tree trunks all their life - An art form made even more revered due to the risks involved with procuring wood. Many vessels such as the one in Elizabeth's sight had left the docks of Dolburimm that day, but few had ventured out as far from the shore in search of a prey quite so deadly. A prey they were currently in the midst of heated battle with.
As Elizabeth and her fleet would draw closer they would see the singular vessel rocking frantically in the ocean waves. No more then ten hardy dwarven folk remained on the deck of the boat each with either a crossbow or a harpoon in hand. They called out to each other, hands pointing down into the dark below as they scanned the waves for signs of movement.
"Do you see it?"
"Where'd It go?"
"By my beard did you see the size of that thing?"
The questions quickly stopped flying through the air as a much larger, built dwarf took a position at the helm of the ship. His arms were thick with muscle and his head was void of hair. "Still yourselves for Bunrigg and Malnir surely watch over us this day." He thrust his loaded crossbow into the sky with one hand cheering out in an encouraging roar as he did so "For Dolburimm!"
It was at this point that the foul beast showed itself. Countless tentacles rose up from the ocean spray and wrapped around the ship easily dwarfing it in size nearly two-fold. The sailors struggled to hold their ground trying all they could to launch volley after volley of bolts into the creature's slimy appendages all the while the other ships grew closer and closer, unnoticed by all but one.

"What the..."
The monstrosity that had engulfed the vessel was several times larger than the largest thing any of them had ever hunted. How the hell could anyone fight that thing? She stared for only a moment longer before her training reasserted itself. Those people needed help and regardless of the ship's origin she wasn't going to just sit there and watch. They would fight just as they always had, with courage and honor, mixed in with a whole lot of reckless. A quick signal of her hand and the griffins quickly shifted into a rough half circle. Two dozen steel-tipped javelins slammed into the hide of the monstrosity. At that range none of the soldiers would miss, and their training held true as the second volley hit the beast. She signalled for them to hold back the third volley, time to wait and see how the beast would react.

The huge beast flailed it's many tentacles wildly, writhing around in pain as the griffin riders made their assault. Thick purple blood would ooze from the puncture wounds and onto the Dolburese vessel which it currently had in it's grasp. A grasp which was becoming weaker thanks to the strangers aid. The captain shot a glance over to the strange flying beasts and their riders as he let fly his crossbow into another of the beast's countless tentacles. "Watch out Lads! She's a feisty one!" He said in a surprisingly lighthearted tone considering the situation. The monstrosity had only it's extremities above the water with half clinging onto the vessel while the other half tried to swat charging griffin rider's from the sky as they made their charges.

"Stay back First Platoon! Sergeant Thorp, have your riders use your bows, and stay out of the range of those tenta....dammit!"
Three of her riders and their griffins were swatted into the ocean as she spoke, having exhausted their javelins they attempted to charge it with their lances. She sighed and shook her head as she flung her last javelin in unison with her first two squads, a dozen javelins impacting in the hide of the massive creature. She saw the small people on the ship and noticed they were not attempting to engage in melee combat with the creature either. A larger tentacle got too close and received the tip of her lance as compensation.

The creature was beginning to suffer from fatigue as the wounds it had taken began to take it's toll, sapping it of both energy and resolve. After another couple of minutes or so of wild trashing it seemed to withdraw it's hold from the Dolburese vessel and slink back down into the darkness below. The remaining crew let out a victorious cheer which rang through the air. The captain did not participate however, instead opting to reload his crossbow and aim it towards the strange mounted company which had just aided them.
"You there! Are 'ye friend or foe?" His voice was loud and commanding, clear enough to be heard over the distance between the two groups. It was a fairly pleasant day just off the coast of Dolburimm, compared to usual, with only a light spattering of rain falling from the otherwise clouded sky. The remaining crew, six in total including the captain, also pointed their freshly loaded weapons to the sky to mimic the actions of their leader. A tense silence fell over the vessel as they awaited a reply, fingers held nervously on the triggers of their weapons.

Only one of her Riders resurfaced, and his griffin struggled for a bit before getting airborne again. The faint pools of blood in the water told her the fate of the other two.
She remained in the air as she heard his voice across the sea. The strange flag the vessel sailed under was unknown, so that would be her first question when they landed.
"Friend, unless you are pirates or slavers. Permission to land on the vessel?"

"Well you did swoop in to lend us a hand" The captain slowly lowered his bow before motioning to his men to do the same. They wearily followed orders, their eyes still fixed on the beasts which the strangers were riding.
"What brings you to our shores stranger?" The tallest of the dwarfs, the captain, walked forward a little inspecting Finch fascinated with her armour and weaponry. He himself wore a rugged vest made from tanned sealhide, the neck trimmed with a rather impressive walrus skinned lining which led down into a similarly fashioned cloak.
"Wha...What in Balren's beard are those things?" One of the crewmen spoke shakily, his face clearly distressed at the site of the beasts in front of him.

The griffin landed as softly as it could on the deck of the ship. She gracefully dismounted and saluted the captain of the ship.
"Lieutenant Elizabeth Finch, of the Isran Dawn Riders. We were just doing a patrol and seeing how adept the griffins were over the water. That was a rather large creature attacking your ship, that happen often?"
Her tone remained professional, but a hint of curiosity echoed through her last statement.

The boat shook slightly as both the griffin followed by it's rider stepped foot on the deck. Various pieces of equipment were broken or in dire need of repair after the attack leaving the group of dwarfs motionless for now.
"Tysri fills the water with many creatures such as the one we just fought. The waters around Dolburimm are the eternal battleground of him and the allfather, Balren"
The captain turned to face his crew, no doubt a look of confusion on the Lieutenant's face. "Alright brothers, lets see if we can't get this baby back into the port." His order was given sternly, an air of command about the man.
"Daldan" He stated plainly as he turned back to Elizabeth and thrust out his hand for her. He stood at almost five foot and was, by a decent margin, the tallest dwarf left standing on the ship.

She took the dwarf's hand and gave it a firm shake. His hand dwarfed hers, despite the height difference.
"Must be an interesting life. My platoon doesn't know much about ships, but if you need some more manpower we can help. The griffins may just need to land periodically to rest for a few minutes."

The captain motioned at the remnants of the mast with a defeated look on his face as he panned over to the oars.
" 'Aye it would be handy if you could give us a pull back to port. We haven't the equipment to sail back nor the man power to row to Dolburimm any time this week."
He chuckled lightly, his hand reaching to the back of his neck to rub it awkwardly as he boldly asked for the strangers aid.
"If you'd do this for us. I'll do my best to get you a audience with one of the Thanes." He glance around to his men who had all but given up trying to get the ship back into any semblance of working order. "I'm not much of a betting man, but I'd not hesitate to bet my last seal hide on Thelnir wanting to speak to the stranger that aided his people against the kin of Tysri"

She gave him a flash f a smile bfore motioning her Sergeants down. It would be a tough test for the griffins, but as she spoke with the sergeants her men landed on the deck and worked with the crew to attach rope harnesses to the griffins. They would work in shifts of two squads, rotating every half hour to ensure they did not get too tired. Her first squad would remain armed and patrol the ship in case any similar creatures came back. Once that was established and the crew and soldier attaching the griffins to th ship, she turned back to the Captain. "Alright Captain, looks like everything is underway, I just need to contact someone back at headquarters, as I need to report all contact with foreign individuals. I would be more than happy to meet with your Thane, but if you will excuse me momentarily." She stepped off to the side of the ship to contact Empress Naoki . "Madame Naoki? I hope I am not interrupting anything important. During my patrol I seem to have made contact with a ship from the City of Dolburrim. I aided them in a battle against some sort of leviathan and am assisting them in returning to port. Though not requested, there is a high possibility I will receive an audience with their Thane. How should I proceed in this matter?"

The captain looked profusely confused as Elizabeth stepped off to one side to contact her superior. Magic, in the arcane sense, was all but non-existent in Dolburimm with many Dwarfs knowing little to nothing about magic. The only real semblance of magic the city had been accustomed to was the healing properties of their priests and shamans and the extremely rare cases where the gods would manifest their powers to aid the Dolburese people. Such events came around once every ten years or so and were a sight to behold.
"Ah there she is" The captain said thankfully as he pointed through the mist and into the distance. The brothers Bunrigg and Malnir were just now visible through the veil of obscuring water which often hung just above the water's surface. The two colossal stone figures stood at either side of the entrance to Dolburimm's always busy port, weapons held in both hands towards the floor between their legs.
The dwarven crew bowed their heads for a moment or two in respect to the two wardens of their city. The captain glanced up to Elizabeth who is still none the wiser of their culture and begins to fill her in as they draw closer to the city.
"These two brothers are the eternal wardens of Our people. They watch over Dolburimm in the darkness of night and fight back the evil spirits which lurk there, keeping them at bay long enough for the sun to rise each morning. The brothers are the patron deities of battle, protection and the night."

How should I proceed in this matter?" The response is swift and silent as Madame Naoki speaks to Lieutenant Finch telepathically. "The city of what? I am unaware of any "City of Dolburrim". Where are you, on a ship? Whose ship? Are you and your squad well? I need more information, please continue.""The City of Dolburrimis what I think I overheard one of the crew saying. Assuming the crew here are representative of the population, though it is a small sample size, the people appear to be dwarves. My platoon suffered light casualtues during the conflict with the behemoth, 2 dead and 1 wounded. Swatted right into the ocean."

Silently, the purple gemstone on her necklace begins to glimmer and shine. Even though its glow is hidden by the layers of armor above it, the scrying effect is able to function without impairment. Again, Madame Naoki speaks telepathically to Lieutenant Finch.
“Hmm. I see. Literally so. You would seem to have stumbled across a people whom Isra hasn’t yet made acquaintance of. The waters you’re in- they’re far too dangerous for our ships to venture into, and the woods on the shore are equally hazardous to explorers. The whole area was written off as a dangerous wilderness, and I suppose no one had the presence of mind to scout it from the air. Not before you, I suppose. Hmm.”
“Well, I suppose there’s not really too many options available to you in this situation. I would suggest playing the situation by ear, and doing your best to give a positive impression while simultaneously assessing the people. You may tell them of Isra if they ask, and state our foreign policy of only seeking to establish positive relationships and trade partners. I’ll continue to watch over your metaphorical shoulder, and prepare reinforcements and an embassy.”
“If, at any point, you or your squad are under threat, you should attempt to escape. While it would be pleasant to make friends out of these dwarves, if they would unjustly punish or imprison you, I don’t think we would want much to do with them. Be appropriately cautious. I’ll be right here if you’d like to consult me for advice, but do your best- I know you always do.”

That was a new trick. She had not realized the gemstones could do that, but she also was not surprised at that. The permission to extract herself from a hostile situation was also a slight relief, knowing she could act in her soldiers' best interests always made her job easier as their officer. This was a new task for her, the closest she had ever come to this was in dealing with the refugees from Medan. Always time to learn something new she figured.
"Of course ma'am, I will ensure my Riders and I present the best possible image of Isra we can. I shall keep you updated to the best of my ability ma'am, how is everything back home?"

"Things are going well, I would say. As it so happens, I'm attending an Assembly meeting at the moment. Lord Ildesias just resigned. We're in the process of electing a new Lord, and I'm doing my best to see that it is a Lady. When next you check in, you may be speaking to the newly elected Lady of Isra. Or Tyrus may get the position. It's too early to say for sure, we are still in the process of giving our speeches. Nothing else of particular note is happening to the best of my knowledge, things continue to proceed relatively smoothly. You and I are at the center of the most interesting and balance-tipping events at the moment, and I am confident that we will both emerge from our respective affairs successfully.”
