Age: Appears to be about thirty
Physical Description: ----------------------------------------------------
Casteylan is half-fae so is elf-like in features but without any trace of the noble bearing you might expect of an elf. He is tall and thin (despite a large appetite), with copper-coloured hair usually worn loose and long. His eyes are a piercing pale blue and his skin fair with a tendency to freckle in the sun.
He has a small tattoo resembling a stylised bird's claw by his left eye.
Clothes and Equipment: ----------------------------------------------------
Dresses for comfort whilst travelling; typically a cotton or woollen shirt, a leather jerkin or jacket depending on the weather, leather pants, soft boots, dark cloak. His clothing is mostly in shades of brown and green when in the wilderness but in a city he favours brighter colours.
He carries a bow and a quiver of arrows, and a longsword at his hip which is finely crafted though plain and unadorned. Also on his belt is a small dagger. He is well-equipped for living in the wilderness; his travelling pack contains changes of clothing for varying weather conditions, a sleeping roll and canvas, some basic cooking utensils etc. He also carries a leather satchel which contains a small harp (about 2ft high).
He rides a grey draft horse called Trouble, and is accompanied by Ember, who is a trained hunting-cat resembling a tawny-orange puma.

Okay, so I have tons of backstory for my character but I am having trouble figuring out where in this Sandbox he might be from.
According to the stories I've been writing and RP'ing over the years, he's an elf and he's from a different world entirely, but the elves of his world don't seem to be a good match for the Fae here.
I could feasibly make him half-Fae, in which case the Fae half would be his father (who went AWOL when Cas was a child and was never seen again); this would mean that he was raised by a human mother in a largely human community. This actually fits his backstory very well.
So I would need him to be from a fairly benign but not massively wealthy human kingdom with a coastline (and ideally one where there are small offshore islands) and a city not too far away. Is there a match for that here?
Or, given that he has been a sailor in his past, should I just say that he's from "over the sea" somewhere? And if I did, would there be problems with language and communication?

Is there a match for that here? 5) Or, given that he has been a sailor in his past, should I just say that he's from "over the sea" somewhere? And if I did, 6) would there be problems with language and communication? 1) Let yer creativity shine. 2) Sure but getting stuff from "other worlds" can be fickle here. Still, if it floats your boat. The important thing is that you should still reveal your powers in your profile, and saying "otherworldly magics" and stuff won't work. Once again, be creative. There are all sorts of tropes/archetypes of fae/elves here, some may not be all that different. 3) Sure why not, this does not even have to be a point. Why did I put a number for this? Oh right I like reading what I type. 4) Gauldin seems to fit the bill. Has annexed a few islands, several coastlines, if you don't mind the fact that they are a bunch of frogs (based off of France, very unsubtly) then they seem ideal for you. 5) Whatever floats your boat. 6) Choice of style etc. Some people manage to speak the "common tongue" despite being isolated for centuries, while some have their own languages. Hope this helps.

Moonflower Làidir
Main Character
Roleplay posts: 537
Age: 25
Physical Description: Moonflower is tall and willowy, standing at 5'11"; for all her slimness, she definitely has a woman's figure, with subtle curves that she does her best to hide beneath clothing slightly too large for her. Her hair is white, and falls to her waist, framing a face with a delicate bone structure and fair skin, set with a pair of silver-blue eyes that have a tendency to change intensity of hue to reflect her emotions. She has a few scars scattered all over her body, but the only real visible marks are the scars and callouses on her hands, a product of her work. For all her slight build, she is somewhat strong, likely due to her lupine-shifter nature, and she is flexible, swift, and dexterous.. when she's not dropping things due to being clumsy and awkward.
------------------------
Clothes and Equipment: Her usual clothing consists of any mixture of one of her white linen shirts, a vest with two small pockets (one dark blue, one light blue, one light grey); a pair of breeches (one black, one dark grey, one dark blue), and her black knee-high boots. Always around her left wrist is a pewter Dwarven bracelet, and around her right a bear-claw bracelet; on the fourth finger of her left hand, she wears a silver engagement ring with a single oval-shaped moonstone framed by a pair of triquetra. Tools of her trade include whittling knives, and glass- and metal-etching tools.

There is a city full of Fae in the kingdom of Alban, it's an island nation near to another island nation. That might be your best bet. Get in touch with King Averin Arach or Ailionóra uí Muineacháin to discuss the viability of this option, since the first runs Alban as a whole and the second is the Fae leader.

I think it's feasible that Casteylan's father was from Alban but Casteylan himself certainly would not have been raised there. I'm very much liking the idea of him coming from Gaudlin though. The name of the island he comes from (in his original story) is Aravel. It even sounds French!
I think I'll run with this idea.
