The Ryoichi Silk Shop is known for 3 things: - Their beautiful, high quality silk sold by the yard, dyed in many different shades, and a few with patterns already placed into them.
- Their beautiful kimono and other high fashion gowns and wear for the denizens of Quying and Tawakoshi that can afford them.
- Being owned by the powerful Ryoichi Merchant family of Quying, and working as their headquarters. It is Ryoichi Yuudai's headquarters, and the second story is where his Downtown office is located.
What can silk be used for? For a number of things in Quying: - Creating fine clothing for men and women.
- Lining armor and creating under wear for warriors
- Lining silk screens for decorations in homes, offices, or other rooms, to be painted and decorated
- For calligraphy and scroll work
- For creating hardy rope
Inside the main Ryoichi Silk Shop, where customers can sit and have tea. To the left is where the raw bolts of silk can be purchased. To the right is there their beautiful kimono are laid out, works of art in and of themselves.

Hatsumomo floated into the store, no doubt with Royal Fletcher trailing behind her. She easily closed her own parasol, handing it off to modestly-clothed clerks who waited, bowing at Hatsumomo and Roy as they entered -- although they gawked at Roy for a moment. The actress led Roy deeper into the room and took a seat at the table, gesturing for Roy to the do the same. The clerks hurriedly went to get tea for the both of them, the interesting Tawakoshi language a distant song above their heads. Hatsumomo smiled reassuringly to Roy, and then from the stairs came an older woman -- not so old as to be a matron, but certainly more mature than Hatsumomo years -- came down. "Royal Fletcher, this my cousin, Ryoichi Kayako," Hatsumomo introduced. "She is manager of shop."

"It is Katsunaga Kayako now," the woman gently reminded Hatsumomo. She spoke with less of an accent than her younger cousin did, and seemed to have a better command of the language that Hatsumomo had used to communicate with Royal. She seemed much more poised, although no less kind than Hatsumomo -- there was an air of reservation about her.
"Royal Fletcher. You are, perhaps, a very long way from home," Kayako observed. She seemed to already know where this was going, and the clerks had already whispered to her about the way the foreigner smelled and his need for bathing. And clothes, by the look of it.

Roy followed Hatsumomo into the shop, trying to make sure the duck didn't escape his pack. It kept trying to make a run for it, and he kept having to push it back. Eventually, he decided to compromise and let it stick its head out. He figured that he must look pretty funny with a duck poking its head out of his bag, but people were staring anyway. After all, he was very out of place. He smiled at Kayako, nodding.
"I'm very far from home, Miss Kayako. I don't know how to get back anymore. I suppose I'm lucky that I ended up somewhere, and didn't just get lost at sea."

Hatsumomo sipped her tea and she watched Royal and Kayako from beneath her lashes. As the duck obstinately poked its head out from Royal's pack, she jumped a little, caught off guard. The actress blinked, then raised a gentle hand, as if trying to capture the young boy's attention.
"Is duck for eating?" she asked Royal, confused as to why the fish boy had it with him.

"Perhaps a passage home may be arranged with my father," Kayako said, after her gaze looked over Royal as if he were some creature in a menagerie. She'd never seen anything like him before, and it would just figure that it would be Hatsumomo bringing him within the silk shop. "He is a prominent merchant in Quying and has ships."
Of course, Royal wouldn't be going for free, but then, she assumed that the boy would know that. When Hatsumomo asked about the duck, Kayako nodded. "We can serve him tonight. My father will be pleased you have brought a gift."

Roy looked at Hatsumomo and Kayako, then at the duck. Was it for eating? That was probably what his uncle had wanted when he had sent Roy out to catch it, after all. Besides, it was such a troublesome duck, and probably should be eaten. Roy was hungry, too. Anyway, Grandma had told him that he shouldn't go to people's houses emptyhanded. A duck would be a nice gift, really. Reaching into the backpack, he pulled out the duck, which let out an indignant quack.
"Yes, it's for eating. Would you like it? It's caused me a lot of trouble, you know. This duck made me get chased off a cliff by a bear, which led to me getting swallowed by a fish. Here, do you want it?"
Uncle Renalt would understand, Roy decided. Besides, he could always go out and catch another duck. Why did his uncle send him out to catch ducks, anyway? He could buy ducks at the market, cleaned and plucked and ready for roasting. Why did Roy always have to go out and catch ducks?

Hatsumomo let out a laugh at the way Royal was handling the duck, shoving it out to the Ryoichi women. What a character he was! She shook her head, hair jewelry chiming as she opened her fan with a snap and fluttered it at her bare collarbones and throat.
"Not me," Hatsumomo said. She was an actress, not some laborer that killed and plucked ducks. Her hands were meant for finer pleasures than that, and she didn't enjoy doing any menial tasks now that she had enough money and pull to do as she liked.
"We feast on it tonight at the estate, don't we, Kayako?" she asked with a flutter of her lashes at her cousin. Royal would probably be able to sense now that there was some sort of level of rivalry between the two Tawakoshi women.

The duck quaked at being held by the neck by Royal, it's wings batting around like crazy as its beak snapped. Kayako took a step back in surprise, and at Hatsumomo's laughter and the gasp of the clerks, Kayako frowned and stepped forward.
She had no problem taking the duck in hand and snapping its neck quickly and efficiently, its entire body going slack and heavy in her hand. "Thank you, Fletcher-san, for the duck." Kayako turned and held the duck out and a clerk hurriedly came forward and took it from her hand, the other one coming up to offer a wet rag for Kayako's hands.
The woman washed them off before she let her cool, dark eyes settle on Hatsumomo. "Yes. I will arrange it for this evening. Until then... I think Fletcher-san will enjoy a bath and fresh clothes."
She handed the rag she used to wipe her hands to a clerk, then spoke in quiet Tawakoshi words to the clerk, who nodded her head and rushed off to do Kayako's bidding. Then, Kayako said something quietly to Hatsumomo, for which Hatsumomo replied in an amused tone.
Kayako's smile to Royal was quick and not very sincere. "We have no bath here at the shop, so you will be a guest in my home at the Ryoichi Estate. A litter will be here soon to take us."

Roy's eyes widened in shock as Kayako snapped the duck's neck. He supposed it was coming anyway, but he hadn't expected her to do it right here, so suddenly! Still, he decided, it had to be done eventually. He'd never liked it much, though, and had always ran off and hid whenever it was time to prepare chickens for dinner at the estate.
"Oh! Um...yes, a bath would be nice. I'm sorry, I'm filthy...being swallowed by a fish is messy."
At least the duck would be tasty, he thought. Miss Kayako was awfully nice, especially since he likely didn't smell very good at all.
"Thank you very much, you've been very kind. Um...would you like some chocolate? It's still sealed."
He rummaged in his pocket and pulled out two bars of chocolate, still wrapped up tightly in foil paper. He offered them to the two women, smiling. Did they have chocolate in Tawakoshi? He didn't know.

Hatsumomo was very amused by the situation she'd put her cousin in, forced to take in a foreign vagrant that smelled of fish and rot and only brought with him but a duck. The boy made excuses every time he spoke, and it was also amusing to Hatsumomo.
Perhaps next she would write about Roy, and make him the basis for a short comedy at her theatre. The thought certainly had merit. After all, Hatsumomo found it all rather pleasant. She imagined that others must want to laugh as well, after getting over the initial shock of Roy's looks and language.
Well, perhaps she'd edit that part out and just make him a boy from someplace else in Tawakoshi.
She sipped her tea and watched Kayako make the arrangements -- for which Hatsumomo was sure to be invited to -- and then both of her elegant dark brows lifted as the boy offered...
"Cho... choko...?" She didn't know the word, and she wasn't sure what she was supposed to do with it, as Roy held out the brightly-wrapped bars.

"Yes, I think it must be," Kayako said to answer Roy's apologies about smelling like fish. Foul odors were not welcomed in the Tawakoshi culture, where they might be accepted in others. Kayako wasn't sure she wanted to visit the culture that was accustomed to such things, however.
"Do not apologize, it is my honor," Kayako said, with a glance at her amused cousin who seemed to take pleasure in the situation she had bound Kayako to.
When Royal held out the chocolate bars, like Hatsumomo, Kayako only stared at it. She had no idea what it was or what it might be. She'd already taken a duck from the boy, so she tried to fake her gratefulness for the second gift and took it in her white hands, smiling a bit as she bowed.
'Thank you,' she said to Roy and then turned to hand the.... hard thing, whatever it was... to one of the waiting clerks.

Roy was disappointed when Kayako didn't try the chocolate and instead passed it off to an attendant. Did she not like it? Perhaps she didn't know what it was, judging by her confused looks. He certainly wasn't going to insist, though. If she knew what it was and just didn't like it, he didn't want to be rude. Hatsumomo, however, seemed to be curious.
"It's chocolate! Taste it, it's good!"
Unwrapping the foil paper, he broke off a square of chocolate and handed it to her. Perhaps she would enjoy it.

She leaned back, just a little bit, from Roy's enthusiastic gesture, chocolate in his hand. Her gaze flew like a birs from the hunk of hard brown to the boy's smiling face.
"It is... Food?" Even if it was, it was unlikely that Hatsumomo was going to take it. Roy's hands were disgusting, and he had touched it.

The scene that may had started with Hatsumomo and Roy came to an abrupt end as Kayako clapped her hands.
"The litter is here," she said to Roy and Hatsumomo both. "Hatsumomo will take you to the estate, Fletcher-san, and there, my sister Masami will see to your comfort."
She smiled at them both, and this smile seemed a little more genuine, for it wad Hatsumomo in her fine silk kimono and perfumed airs that was going to have to sit beside Roy.

When Hatsumomo didn't take the chocolate, Roy folded the wrapper back up and put it back in his pocket. Oh well, perhaps they'd try it later. After all, he was dirty and smelly and damp at the moment. He really did need a bath, and was sure that it would make his hosts very happy as well. He followed Hatsumomo outside, and clambered onto the litter. It was very odd, he'd never ridden in a cart pulled by a person before. Where were the horses? His grandmother's carriage had horses.
"Thank you, Ms. Kayako. You've been very kind."

Kayako bowed her head to Royal as he was led out, along with a sullen-faced Hatsumomo.
"I will see you tonight for dinner of the duck," Kayako mentioned, just before the doors closed, and they were off to the estate.
