An expanse formerly acknowledged as “The Virile Verge” has finally been bequeathed a proper name, and mistress. Situated betwixt two daunting landmarks is Levantine: to the east, the Sheol Desert, and to the west, Cristatus Hydra Range; above the emergent town are two twin lakes, communally called “The Serpent’s Chalice”.
Once within the boundaries of Levantine, the eye is drawn to prominent obelisks, erected on either side of a quartz-speckled dacite walkway. Some are finished, ranging from seventy to hundred feet, and weighing at least two hundred metric tons, or more. Others are still in varying stages of completion.
Buildings lining the walkway are evocative of ancient Egyptian assortment, constructed from special types of igneous, volcanic rocks mined from the Hydra Range. Most are post and lintel style: spacious, open structures with strong vertical pillars that showcase the same primordial language seen on the obelisks. Winding through Levantine is a river, channeled through three different arched canals.
Further into town, a Basilica is in the final stages of completion, surrounded by Domus houses, impressive accommodation for major members of Levantine. Past the Hydra Basilica is a cella styled temple with pylon access, an ossuary with underground tunnels adjacent to a charnel house, large statues of serpents and dragons, truncated pyramids that serve as buildings, as well as various residential homes, barracks, and towers.
Points of Interest: [individual threads for each can be viewed by clicking on their names.]
- A hefty ship has wrecked into the shore of the Ocean of Luxor. While their identity is unknown, it is essential to offer them help. Not only are a suggested twenty-five people stranded, they were also transporting valuable trade items and provisions.
- The carcass of an old city has been found in a nearby lake, The Serpent’s Chalice, thought to have fallen off into the depths nearly two hundred years ago during a grave flood. A team is sought to locate the entirety of the remnants, and investigate the ruins.
- The city of Levantine is severely isolated due to the Hydra Mountains and the Sheol Desert – they obtain much of their trades through the Ocean of Luxor. An alternate, terrain trade route is desired, and they are offering a stout sum of gold to those who can blaze a trail.
Typical Exports:
- Virgin gold
- Kimberlite (igneous rock containing diamonds)
- Various precious and semi-precious gems
- Armor and weapons
- Papyrus
- Livestock (cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, geese, ostriches, camels, falcons)
- Ebony and Ivory
- Masonry
- Dried Fish
- Crude Petroleum
- Linens and Silk
- Principal crops
- Chemicals (organic and inorganic)
Entry: Entrance to the budding town is funneled through two great, tapering towers, attached by an arch comprised of polished red granite and cavetto cornices that allocate pedestrian travel above. On each side of the towers, primordial language is carved inside a beveled elliptical of diamond fragments. Armed guards can be seen within the towers, and patrolling on the carvetto cornices. Although they do not stop everyone - visual scrutiny is apparent, and those deemed suspect will be questioned. At any given time, there are three guards on duty - adorned in armor and great helms with dragon symbolism and wings.

Sicarii ImperiumA pristine looking black carriage rolls towards the entrance of Levantine, the horses that pull it moving at a brisk trot. The pair of drivers seated on the front of the carriage are dressed in fine but not overly ornate clothes. Deep curtains of a purple color obscure the view of who is riding inside the carriage. As the carriage reaches the two great towers that mark the entrance into Levantine, one of the riders pulls the reigns on the horses up slightly, causing the carriage to slow to a halt. The older of the two drivers calls out in a friendly voice to the closest guard. “Excuse me Master Guardsman, I have a question regarding Levantine. We’re travelers who haven’t been here before as you might be able to discern by our appearance. I’ve heard that Levantine has some very interesting trading goods and was wondering where we should go to find such things.”

(I never got a notification for this reply, so I'm terribly sorry for the wait!)
The guards patrolling the city gates narrowed their eyes as the carriage came into view, still about a quarter of a mile away. Levantine was reasonably isolated, due to the Hydra Range to the west, and the Sheol Desert to the east; not to mention the vast ocean to their south. Travelers were few and far between.
Nepyth and Darys glanced at each other, before the latter took charge and descended the east tower to greet the carriage once it was within range. Darys wore metallic armor, his breastplate displaying Levantine’s crest: a dragon with curled wings. His weaponry was a simple long spear held in his right hand,
“Well, if you just want to examine our exports, the marketplace will assist you well with many well-stocked shops. However, if you are looking for bulk goods, I would propose visiting Luxor Port.”
He spoke calmly, and with a direct tone. Nepyth was still atop the walkway between the towers, and watched them. The man did not appear to be on guard, but held his long spear in his right hand in the same fashion as Darys.

(No problem. I was worried you had left the site, glad to see you’re still around.) Sicarii ImperiumThe younger driver seemed to find the appearance of Levantine’s crest rather interesting, staring at it intently. The older driver who had spoken to the guard, however, seemed more interested in simply getting on with his duties, offering the guard a nod of thanks at his response. “Thank you very much master guardsman, that definitely answers the question I had. I think we’ll definitely be heading to the port then-” A sudden knocking sound came from the front of the carriage, right behind where the older driver sat. Quickly turning, he opened a small shutter embedded in the front of the carriage, placing his ear to it and listening carefully to whatever the person inside was telling him. Giving a curt nod, he closed the shutter, turning his attention back to the guards. “Seems I spoke too soon, I think we’ll be going to the marketplace instead. Well, I hope you have a nice day, farewell for now!” Assuming the guards had no objection, the carriage started moving forward again. Although the driver didn’t know where the marketplace was exactly, he figured it couldn’t be that hard to find.

Darys felt satisfied with the conversation, and let the carriage pass unimpeded with a nod of his head and wave of his spear arm.
“Just follow the smell of warm bread and enjoy your travels.” Nepyth called down from the walkway, and continued down the length to the west tower.
Indeed, it would not be particularly hard to discover the marketplace – Levantine was still a comparatively small city, and the vibrant awnings of the district could be seen from the entry of the city. Dazzlingly dyed linens sheltered the outside vendors from the unsympathetic sun, and the beat of people coming and going from the sandstone buildings was a fine indication many of the shops were open.
