The barracks of the Dawn Riders are located throughout the upper levels of the Citadel. They are accessed primarily from the air, and to prevent accidental injury of citizens, the barracks are locked to all but the platoon currently residing in that location. They are semi-open to the elements, and the griffins have been to soar around the towers while their riders are elsewhere. The total capacity of the barracks is approximately two full companies of the griffin riders. The land-based forces of the Dawn Riders use the same barracks as the rest of the infantry stationed in the city.

One morning, a letter arrived at the Dawn Rider barracks addressed to their higher ranks. It held an official looking seal.
"I, Madalena Winterscar, Ambassador of Isra, would like to invite you to my office for a formal introduction.
I believe that if I want to do my job well, I should know about every aspect of Isra. Your ranks are very much part of this and I would love to learn about the Dawn Riders.
Would you accept my invitation I will meet you in my Office in the early morning. I will provide refreshments.

Upon the resolve of the Citadel incident, Captain Aurelius would find that letter on his desk.
This posed an interesting question. He and the other Captains were currently the highest-ranking officers amongst the Legion. Two large ogre invasions in a row, coupled with a goblin infestation near the griffin eyries had resulted in the Dawn Riders losing their Senior officers, and with a new Lady of Isra, any officer was eligible to take command, and with that, would come a hopeful renewal of the badly undermanned legion. He pondered this for a moment. He would send Lieutenant Finch, with her track record and close relationship with Lady Naoki, she was likely to be the new General. He had already recommended her. The people loved her, everyone who served under her command loved her, and by all accounts she was an excellent officer. A bit young, but she would have the experience of those under her to help guide her. Yes, she could go to this meeting.

The Ambassador would find Lieutenant Calgary waiting for her outside the entrance to the barracks, his foot nervously tapping on the ground. As she approached he would straighten up with a smile.

He was about to open the door when he stopped.
"It is going ti be fairly busy in there, the Company stationed here is leaving this afternoon, so stay close behind me and well out of reach of any griffin. They know when we are to be deployed, and they get excited."

She nodded to him listening closely to what he had to say. It made her curious what it meant for the Griffins to get 'excited'.
When they entered she made sure to stay close behind him, but also took plenty of space to look around herself. He didn't lie when he said it was busy. There were Dawn Riders everywhere she could see. The Griffins wore saddles and were trampling in space, waiting for their flight to begin. Their screeches could be heard from somewhere. Madelena was definitely enjoying herself. Even if this would be the only she got to do as an Ambassador she would be glad she had the job.

He saluted to Captain Aurelius as he walked by, before continuing on. The soldiers moved quickly out of his way as he moved towards Skye's eyrie, which was at the end of the row. The two Riders-in-Training outside the swinging door saluted as he approached.
"Is she ready to go?"
"Yes sir, though she was none too happy to be headed away from the fight."
"I'll bet." He smiled at the last as one of the soldiers pulled out a raw steak to hand him.
He turned towards the Ambassador and handed it to her, grinning as he did so.
"Hope you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty Madalena."

The smile didn't leave Madelena's face all the way towards the eyrie. Only when the meat was handed to her it left her face a little bit because of surprise. The meat was juicy and blood had clearly not been cleared out of it. She couldn't say she was to happy about handling meat like this, but she was not planning to show it.
"Of course not Calgary." she said as confident as she could.

"You can just call me John, Calgary is my family name. Now, Skye is not an overly aggressive Griffin, but she is big and excitable, and I do not want anyone to get hurt, so again, stay behind me. When I introduce you, step forward, and hand the steak to her. Ready?"
His tone was less friendly and more professional due to the serious nature of the task. Griffins were still wild animals, just smart ones.

Madelena was a bit confused about this part. She had always thought the Griffins had been trained enough to be friendly and not a threat to everybody. But everything they had told her until now had told her to be cautious around them. She guessed part of their wild nature remained but she would lie if she said it didn't make her a bit nervous about having the steak in her hands.
"Okay John.. I-I will." she tried to keep her posture towards him, she didn't want him to think she was scared of Skye. If anything she was more excited to meet the Griffin then afraid, but still a bit afraid she guessed.

"More than likely she will not hurt you, the last time a griffin bit someone unprovoked was a year ago and that person was a butcher. The most important thing is to just remain calm a d remember that you are entering her home, not encountering her in neutral territory."
He slowly opened the doors, walking in with Madalena hopefully close behind him. Skye was a magnificent griffin, slight merle patterns splashed across the flank as if to ease the transition from feather to fur. She eyed Madalena warily.
"Alright Skye, this is Madalena, we will be taking her to the Mountains today. Now present the steak, its how you ask to ride."

Madelena stood in awe at the beauty of the creature in front of her. Being only a few meters away every single detail of her was revealed and even in her wildest dreams she could not have imagined the feeling she was feeling right now.
She slowly walked towards her, the fear sapping away and making space for amazement. "Hi Skye, I got something good for you." She reached out her hand, the steak still in her hand, hoping it would be accepted.

Madelena's smile returned on her face when the meat was accepted by the creature in front of her. She just stood there looking how it devoured the meat.
"I am so glad she does! Do they like petting? Or am I making to much of a pet out of her." she said giggling, only halfway realizing it was probably a stupid question. The whole view she had of a Griffin was completely based on the imagination of a 5-year old.

He smiled warmly at Madalena, her attitude was absolutely infectious. He cintinued talking as he put the two-person saddle on Skye.
"Well she won't lay in front of the fire during the winter if that is what you want, but if you gently run your hand along her flank...here like this."

She wiped her slimy meat hand off on her dress, clearly not caring to much about the fabrics cleanless as she knew it would be dirty soon enough anyway. She then followed his example and gentle ran her hand over the creatures flank. The fur was softer then she would have thought and the touch was pleasant to her.
"There, there girl." she spoke softly to the creature as if talking to a dog, knowing it probably wasn't the right way to adress the creature, but she simply didn't know another way.
Another wave of excitement went over Madelena. She would soon be floating in the sky on the back of a creature she had only dreamed of riding.

He stepped away a few moments later after buckling on the last strap. As he finished, Skye shook herself and stood proudly for a moment before kneeling to allow them to hop on.
