The main guest's room for waiting and entertainment, the tea room had on display the most prized displays of artwork, such as ikebana flower arrangements and paintings, making it slightly more festive than what was traditional of a tea room. The teas available from the most practiced of servants had many complex layers of herbal flavorings, including from jasmine to blackberry. Music was often provided for the most distinguished of guests. |

Genji led Nakatani into the tea room and ordered the doors shut. Two servants slid the entrance closed. Genji sat in sieza at one end of a central table, and asked Nakatani to sit at the other end.
"Please... make yourself comfortable. No need for formality," he said.

Nakatani followed Genji and also sat down in seiza, gently folding her kimono under her knees as she sat down. Her instincts from old time immediately took over as she grabbed the teapot that was on the table and gently poured them both a cup. It somehow made her feel happy. She had been away so long that just being back in a culture she understood felt like a good thing. She couldn't help but to smile a little bit as she handed one of the cups to Genji.
"I will Lord Genji." she then said to him.

His smile lit up as he almost laughed. He found it kind of cute, the way she set everything up with perfect formality; it was only until she finished her ritual that she said 'I will, Lord Genji.' There was charm to how in tune she was to the finer things, and how much she hadn't forgotten.
"We left Katashima, when we learned we were harboring a deep secret among our population..."
He continued on to the heart of the matter with little ceremony.
"The long lost cousin, of late Empress Suzume."

"A cousin?" this surprised her. She had not expected anything like this. She took a small sip of her tea while she thought about what he had just said.
"Are you planning to try and rebuild Katashima's legecay here in Tawakoshi my Lord?"

"Indeed, for our own sake," he said casually as he took a sip of his own tea. "And I couldn't hope to have a better friend in my castle for that journey," he said with a genuine smile. Many among his circle would have denounced this language, seeing Nakatani as a servant, but Genji was often one of a more relaxed demeanor.
"It is good of you to return. I may need someone who is held in a little higher regard than most of the other servants, who can receive our guests when I am away."

"Nothing would make me happier then to be at your service again my Lord." she said and slightly bowed her head to him in respect before continueing to sip on her tea.
"Do you know where this cousin is located? And if she is aware of her heritage?" the news had sparked her curiousity. But she was also a little bit nervous. She knew how Itami had worked since a young girl to become a well respected emepress and even she had not been able to get the favor of the others lords. How was a small kid, who might not even know who he or she was going to reunite her people.

Genji, too, was nervous. There was so much he didn't know. Whether or not the late Empress' bloodline still existing even mattered to their survival was in the air... but he was a man of strong intuition and foresight, and that bloodline had been the core of the Hizashi clan since its conception. With all else destroyed, surely it behooved them to protect it.
"I am not sure if she is aware. But yes actually... according to my information, she is here in Kiyonai, right now."

"Then there isn't much to speculate about until the girl is in your custody. It will be a hard journey for her." she said and finished her tea before gently setting the cup down and looking at Genji's face, searching for what he was truly thinking.
She knew he was very like Isao. His honor came before everything else and for Genji a big part of that honor lay with the royal bloodline.
There was yet one question on her mind and she was aware this answer might not be the one that she wanted. But not asking it felt even worse and heavy on her heart. "If I might ask something else my Lord. Do we know what happened to Isao?"

"Sadly, I have not heard from him since. I can only hope he somehow made it off the island, but unfortunately... I have my doubts."
He knew she had developed feelings for Isao in Katashima. In hindsight, he also realized his decision to marry Isao to the Empress was probably the best one after all. Had they grown too close, Nakatani would be all the more devastated by his disappearance. In some way, the mystery of Isao was a bittersweet one to swallow. Of course, all would be preferable if both Nakatani and Isao had somehow survived.

"I see.." sadness grew on her face. She was able to not start crying, but hearing he might not have made it out of Katashima alive was heavy on her heard. She could only hope that somehow he did manage to survive.
For a bit they sat in silence as she tried to recollect her thoughts. She then picked up the teapot, just as gentle as she always had and said with a smile: "Would you like some more tea Lord Genji?" It simply was the easiest way to cope.

"Yes, of course," he said, offering his emptied cup.
"And then I'm afraid, very shortly, I have another matter to which I must attend. I do apologize, but I received the information on very short notice."
When Nakatani poured the tea, he'd blow on it gently, setting it down before him. It would be allowed to cool for several minutes before he took his first sip.
"Actually. Would you like to serve us tea there as well, when the time comes?"

"Don't apologize my Lord, I know you are a busy men." she said as she bowed her head for him and took a small sip of her own tea as well. "I would gladly server you and your guest."
Once they had finished their tea she stood up gracefully and bowed down, excusing herself before she left. She would then prepare herself for the visit. She tied her hair in traditional Katashima style, something she hadn't done for a long time. Put on a freshly washed Kimono and put on a few dabs of jasmine parfumes.
