She continued her walk, smiling as Nameless Samurai caused the stones to revolve around her. She wondered where this individual was from, and what it was he was hiding. She knew he was hiding something major, given his overtly cryptic answer to her attempt to become acquainted, and that he most assuredly was not local. And where exactly did Pana hail from, with her gift of healing powers? And then there was Kiara, traveling by herself at a very young age, which ultimately left her very curious about the origins of all three of her travel companions. Yet before she could set about trying to figure all that out, Kiara addressed her.
"Yes?"

"Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-ryu," she said, "I think we'll have to talk about that some other time. For now, let's just get to Kiyonai." She'd allow a moment to pass, should the others do the same, in which they walked quietly down the road. At times, they went through long stretches of fields without shade, and she silently wished she had an umbrella. She would have to pick one up once they got to town.
".. So what's your name, little one?" She looks to Kiara.

The sun was setting and the temperature was dropping. A worn but sturdy cart rolled on along the road as two horses pulled it along. Two soldiers sat at the head of the vehicle, guiding the animals and watching ahead. Two walked at either flank, bringing up the rear and keeping an eye on the imprisoned woman curled up pitifully in a bamboo cage that rode along. None of them particularly cared for ensuring she was warm or fed. Once they got her to Kiyonai, she was their problem.

For most of the journey, things would seem very eventless. About a day's journey from the provincial capital, however, they'd come across the two dead bodies. Judging by their equipment and their wounds, they appeared to be ronin, having met their end in violence. A small number of flies preyed on the corpses.

Johan had went on to the Midori road to get to Kiyonai, what he knew to be one of the principle provinces. Staff thudding beside him he walked on, every so often pausing to look about and scribble something in a notebook.

The Midori Road was one of the roads that led away from the Main Kami Shrine of Kiyonai. Because of this fact Ayame was often found walking the road as part of her excersizing. She also made sure the path was cleared for the older visitors to the shrine and that nature was balanced.
Today she got a surprise when she walked this familiar road. She would often meet people, but it had been a while since she had seen someone as foreign as the person at the other side of the road. He seemed to stop every so often and scribble away in a booklet. Ayame couldn't be sure if he was lost so she decided to walk towards the individual. She had learned the common languages and figured she could help him out.
"Hello Sir, Are you lost?"

Johan was just in the process of finishing deciding the scaling he would use for what he recorded, and had put his book away. Thinking himself - until now - to be alone he was quite surprised to be approached by this young woman and even more so to be spoken to in the common language. It was thanks to a lot of trees and growth that it was somewhat dark so he pulled back on his hood to accustom himself to the light some more. Looking left and right to make sure this wasn't some sort of distraction for a robbery his attention once more returned to Ayame. "No, not yet anyway. I'm new to area, though map helps." he stated, accent quite clear.
Scratching the left hind side of his head he took a look to where the woman was coming from and subsequently asked "What there?" with a curious dark-red eyebrow raised. "I only know of the city far ahead, no more."

She got a better look of the men. She seemed rugged, much rougher and wide then any Tawakoshian she had ever seen. His accent was easy to understand, but clearly, something she had never heard before. She would answer him in a clear voice as well, though she would sometimes haggle a bit with a word or made slight grammar issues.
"I came from the shrine of Kiyonai. People go there to pray to the gods of these lands. If you are heading for Kiyonai, you are indeed going the right way." she tried to be as kind as she could, hoping to be able to help him at aleast a little.
"What brought you to these lands?"

Johannes was quite emotionless with no clear expression one way or another but at the mention of a temple and Gods he seemed more interested and alert, for the local deities were one of the main things he was to record. He did not however, reach for his book because it would be awfully rude and perhaps suspicious to record all one says, though to his credit he had good memory.
"And who are the Gods of the land?" he said, trying to sound as unobtrusive as possible.
At her question however, he had to pause and think. "I am here for... business, of sorts. Making a map, and getting thoughts er... knowledge on the land that is easy for foreigners to understand, trying to make the foreign seem less foreign. While here, I also am supposed to help those present with medicines and such, perhaps teach those who want to learn the many tongue of world outside. I do not like, but the whole world is being connected and if it is, then it is best it is connected well."

His question brought a smile to her face. She always liked to educate people about the temple, much more when he was a foreigner. "We pray to many Gods. There is Amaterasu-Ō-Mi-Kami, who is the goddess of the sun. It is believed she was the original Emperess and is greatly warshipped by the people of Tawakoshi. Then there is Inari Ōkami, the goddess of fertility and harvest. Omoikane is the Goddess of wisdom. People will pray to her to get the answers they seek in life." she paused. "In this way there are many Gods, for many different things. People will also come to the shrine to pay homage to the old spirits of their family, asking them for wisdom in love and building a family. It also helps to put those family spirits to rest and reassure them of the wealth of the family name." She hoped she had given him plenty of information, trusting that he would ask her question if he wished to know more.
"That sounds like a very noble cause. Tawakoshi is not often visited by foreign people so excuse me if my language is failing me. I know that the Daimyo of Kiyonai is looking for anyone to help him protect the lands. I am sure he would welcome you with open arms if you promise him to help aid in medicine that might not be known to these lands." she smiled again.

"Oh? How far can one know of their predecessors? Surely they will eventually lose to time? In the mainland, or my part of it the peoples think of their ancestors as running in blood, and in a general way am by remembering the past and history. And, what if one has naught wealth to speak of to their ancestors?" Johan also considered asking if these rituals actually worked but learning from experience in Quying he thought better. "I shall go see this site for myself regardless I think. It sounds interesting, certainly."
To her statement regarding work with the Daimyo, Johannes stopped to think. He knew of the anti-magical laws, though he did not know how they applied to divination. Eventually, biting his lip he replied. "Perhaps I could help, though I think I will go for all of Tawakoshi. I will of course impart knowledge of mine if I can though I fear some of it... may make happy." He did not know if she was trustworthy enough to tell some of his abilities and nature to, so for now he would keep quiet at most giving subtle hints to see the reaction. "There is much I know about magics, and the supernatural which could be of interest to scholars of land."

"They can be known and prayed to for many many generations. Especially spirits that have done special things in their live will be remembers and asked for wisdom long after they have parted the mortal world. And all we can do is ask their help, it is up to them to decide we are worthy of the wisdom and luck that they can grand us." When he mentioned visiting the shrine she would smile at him. "You are more then welcome to make your prayers." she bowed to him slightly.
"I can't tell you I know of magic. It is not as common in these lands as they seem to appear in other regions around us. All I can tell you is that I have met serveral individuals that were blessed with certain abilities. Also I have met a few who had been cursed. I am sure you would not be only one and as long as you use your knowledge for the well being of the land, i doubt anyone would judge you."

Johan mailed internally when the lady said he was welcome to make his prayers, though he decided not to share the inside joke, once again preferring tact over complete honesty. "I shall make my way there now, then, no time waste; besides, it would be easier to get bearing from there." He said, returning the smile and bow.
"I am no magician, no but I do know it is forbidden to practice magic and knowledge ABOUT use of could also get me problem with lazy Guards. My name is Johannes, or Johan for short." He said, knowing the foreign syllables would probably be hard for her. "What is your's?"

"Then I would be glad to accompany you." She smiled at him before turning around, signing with him to walk with her. Might as well make sure this travellers didn't get lost on his way.
"It is nice to meer you Johan-san." She said to him, struggling with the joh sound. "My name is Ayame Hisakawa. My family has been the keepers of the kami shrine for generations." She finished introducing herself.
"As for magic. Many Tawakoshians are afraid of it. Thinking the power is greater then the sword they have learned to trust. They don't want to deal with this new method of fighting. Only the good types such as healing are starting to get accepted as they are a great help. For me I find magic very interesting. It must be a blessing by the gods to earns these powers, a sign the person is meant for great deeds. Though some fall for the power, their hearts turn dark and they abandon their gods. Those are the dangerous few."

Johannes strided along, following the young woman's path into the temple, whiskers shifting as he thought. "I know little of these titles - what does 'san' mean, is brother?" He asked, taking note of the geography.
