The arena, unused in quite a while, sat empty and still as the two combatants walked into it. Kelly walked to the center of the ring with her rapier and man gauche at her side. Despite the age difference both Lamina and Kelly were the same size. She bowed to her opponent.
"I heard you were the best there is," She said, standing about 6 feet away from Lamina, "I don't doubt that for a second but I'm always looking to improve my combat skill. Thanks again for taking my challenge."

"Thanks," she said, drawing her degen straight saber from the confines of the metal scabbard clutched within her left hand, placing the weapon's housing against the wall in the corner. She returns to the center of the room, gently poking her left finger with the point of her weapon as she arrives (very gently, of course - to test the sparring wards. They work). A luminescent, magical red mark appears instead of the sensation of pain and a pinprick of blood. She lowers her sword somewhat and faces her right side to Kelly, weapon's point hovering inches above her right boot. From its glinting point to the reach of Kelly's weapon, a span of six feet separated the two sparring partners.
"You ready?"

Kelly noted the wards making all strikes PG before drawing the blade with her left hand (despite it being on her left hip). With the rapier loose, she stood with her left shoulder facing Lamina's own, the blade at a 90 degree angle to the ground and its edges vertical with the ground. Thanks to their equal heights Kelly's sword was pointed towards Lamina's chest and due to the length of both blades the tips were about 4 feet apart from one another.
In Kelly's other hand was the main gauche, held close to her body so as to not disrupt her movement or reach. With a sigh she nodded to Lamina she was ready.

"En garde."
Lamina comes to mimic Kelly's stance, sword forwards, right arm fully extended... With that same shoulder facing her opponent, she walked forwards but along an invisible circle, effectively moving around Kelly with her blade trained on her. In clockwise motion, Lamina had signaled the start of a false duel... but for now, was feeling for an opening.

Kelly didn't make any advances but did follow Lamina's movements as she began to circle around her, always making sure her rapier pointed towards Lamina. The last thing she wanted was for a professional swordswoman to have her exposed flank. Lamina would note that rather than watching the sword itself, Kelly was focusing more on Lamina's arms and shoulders. Her blade tip was aimed slowly downward towards Lamina's hilt-holding hand, almost as if waiting for the distance between them to close enough to strike.

And that is when she struck. Quite a span of distance separated the point of Lamina's weapon from its slim set of targets, and so she led with her forward right foot, stepping into the circle as she leaned forwards, utilizing the greatest extension of her body to bring her point to surpass the distance of Kelly's extended sword from below, prodding for a strike to the left thigh with the bend of her knee as her arm maintained its full extension. Her left hand rose to hover near her left temple, an instinctive stancing from the repetition of training, which constantly urged her to be in a position to protect her face from oncoming dangers.

Anticipating a strike, Kelly deftly shuffled back just as Lamina bent forward for a stab, avoiding the thrust and angling her own sword so that while her arm pointed down slightly the blade angled upwards slightly so the tip now was aimed towards her throat. The distance between them was reset to 4 feet as Kelly kept her eyes on Lamina's extremities rather than the sword.

Her opening blow had missed. The weapon's point had shot across an expanse of distance that grew as Kelly stepped back, causing the already distant stretch to fall short of its target. Recovering upon her right foot, her left slid forward to join it in regaining her initial stance. She stands tall, blade forwards again.
Once again, she begins to circle clockwise.

Dammit, if I advance she'll jab me from below, Kelly thought to herself as she kept up with Lamina's circling by also shifting to the side with her, creating a scenario where the two were side-stepping in unison. How do I get closer to her?
Hesitant to take an attack just yet, Kelly would slowly work herself closer to Lamina, inch by inch, as she shifted with her opponent's movements.

Lamina continues circling, before stepping in with her right foot again, bringing her sword into a gentle swipe to to the inside, her point striking the left flat of her opponent's foible in an attempt to deviate its angle to Kelly's right flank by a very slight degree...

Kelly's eyes became intense as she saw Lamina's muscles give away her her movements. Letting Lamina's own point strike Kelly's blade, Kelly in one swift motion shifted the sword down and forward to catch more of Lamina's own blade so as to hold it at bay as she shifted forward to close the measure between them by another few inches. Lamina would find that Kelly's sword would not move as much as she thought. Indeed, the two blades now clashed against one another, as if Kelly was specifically attempting to hold the degen at bay.

Kelly reestablishes the center line, bracing against Lamina's incoming blade in a slightly crosswise manner, warding it from attacking as she stepped in. Lamina, however, stepped backwards in turn, forcing Kelly to overextend if she wished to maintain the pressure... and then, she leaped back entirely, whipping her sword back up into the initial horizontal stance.

Just as Lamina began to step back, however, Kelly finished her proposed maneuver. With the blades still crossed she spun on her forward left foot to bring her right side closer, reaching out and thrusting with her main gauche towards Lamina's exposed chest. The increased distance covered by the movement coupled with the few inches gained by letting Lamina strike her sword would give her enough measure to stab the swordswoman in the center of her torso.

I was a good try, but with the dagger held behind Kelly's body as her left side presented itself forwards, the pivot she'd have to make would concur with Lamina's backstep. Thus, as the dagger shot forwards in Kelly's right hand and went for her chest, Lamina would be shoving off of her leg and into her backwards leap. The main gauche would miss by inches, as she re-positioned herself out of measure once again.
"Close... try to keep the dagger in a defensive role," she suggests with a friendly tone, adjusting her hair as she keeps her sword forward.

Damn...
Kelly nodded and backed up a bit, flipping the dagger in her hand once as she repositioned. Rather than having her entire body sideways like before, her right shoulder was merely angled so that it was behind her left but still in full view of Lamina. Her dagger was closer as a result. Her rapier, as well, changed a little. Her rapier's blade pointed at an extra 15 degrees upwards, aiming closer to Lamina's neck than her chest, while also crossing over to her right side. By doing so Kelly's own torso was protected from an attack. Her arm was lowered, but only enough so that it was at a 45 degree angle to the ground.
(For reference, this would be a quarte quadrant...still trying to learn how to describe it.)

(You did alright. Squaring off stance more with dagger at your side and moving your sword into 4th.)
The two disengaged, with Lamina retaining her stance, her reach still maximized in comparison to Kelly's, who had given some up in exchange for a second bladed front. Lamina now had to contend with a dagger, which she knew would come in far more handy while parrying than any other application. Her approach had to be cautious.
She then mimicked the very first attack she had made--leaning far forwards to cross the distance, stepping in widely, and bending at the knee--striking with a thrust to Kelly's right thigh, which was now farther forward and more accessible than before.

Kelly shifted her right thigh, and indeed her entire right side, to her left, causing her to take the stance from the previous bout and only showing Lamina's left shoulder to her. In the same movement Kelly thrusted forward towards Lamina's extended arm in the hopes of getting past her rapier and striking.

Rather than withdrawing or parrying the blow, Kelly went for a counterattack instead. By shifting her right side backwards, she had presented a natural defense to such an attack that aligned her body to the right of Lamina's thrust. Concurrent to such a pivot, Kelly's sword point dipped downward, shooting dexterously for a thrust to the extended elbow, point threatening to enter the limb from above.
A lesser experienced fencer would have been caught entirely off guard, halted before they even knew what was coming. Lamina, however, knew to retain mechanical advantage when crossing into measure... her elbow locked, arm extended, her thrust had been delivered from her legs. Each of her right arm's joints had free play--and it was her elbow, which bent sharply with a slight twist, that brought Lamina's sword shooting towards the sky in a sudden vertical angle, slapping Kelly's right flat and remaining engaged after deviating it just slightly aside. Given how Kelly was in mid-pivot, her options for footwork were quite limited... and with Lamina's sword engaged to Kelly's inside, she sent a sudden straight shot--thrust to the eye--while riding her blade along the inside of Kelly's guard.
From Kelly's riposte it would be almost immediate.
"Hyah!"

HOW IN THE FUCK?!
Panic washed over her face as Lamina was able to so quickly move her sword from below her hip to at her eye, hitting both locations in the same instant it would take Kelly to strike at Lamina's elbow. She attempted to bend backwards to avoid the hit but because of her previous movement she was too unbalanced and fell flat on her behind. Panting, she looked up to Lamina in shock.
"How the hell did you do that?!" She asked, confused.

Lamina withdrew, lowering her sword. Kelly's backwards bend, even though ending anticlimactically, did succeed in getting her to 'safety.'
"A feint by mechanical advantage," she said matter-of-factly, though the answer as it was had to have been a little cryptic. Unless Kelly objected, she figured the nature of their meeting allowed her to demonstrate more.
"So," she said as she adopted her initial ninety degree front stance, a hint of confidence in her voice as she had experimented slightly with teaching recently, and had become more sure of herself in imparting knowledge. Since Kelly was using rapier, she figured she might be familiar with some of the terminology.
"When you're stepping into measure with an attack, usually there's a lot of distance, between your point and the target. Your body has to um... strike a certain posture, to reach far enough across the void to hit the opponent. Watch the point of my sword."
From her tall front stance, she steps her right foot forwards, bending at the knee. With this motion she leans forwards. The point of her sword, by the motion of her legs and upper body, is made to lower and move forwards (towards an invisible target, presumably), simultaneously. This was the part of the demonstration she really wanted Kelly to understand before moving on to explain more.
