The Prospernalia was my first time, ever, running a festival for any sort of reason across any sort of media, let alone an interactive one! I am interested in hearing feedback, given that since i am playing the Minister of Arts, I will have to do more festivals for Isra in the coming future.
Let me know your constructive criticism (i.e. by all means, please tell me what you didn't like or didn't think was quite right, but please also offer a possible solution or a differing, successful example of the issue!), your comments, or any positive feedback!
I am most interested in hearing about your: -- favorite contest -- favorite game
I am most interested in hearing feedback on: -- contest mechanics -- game mechanics -- rules -- length of time -- publicity -- amount of threads; subjects of threads
Thanks!

I've said it before, but I think that the king and queen contest should have been restricted only to festival attendees and only if they participated before voting started, just to keep things fair and interesting.
Other than that, I thought you did a bang up job on the publicity and making sure everyone knew it was happening. There was an awesome variety in the threads but I think maybe it could have just been an ale garden and a food court for the refreshments. I also thought the game mechanics made perfect sense for carnival games since I am sure everyone would just say they won but this way it reflected that they were probably rigged.

Roleplay posts: 183
Physical Description: Bella is average height for a dwarf, around four and a half feet tall, with the broad shoulders and powerful frame common to her race. Her long, dark hair is usually pulled back in thick braids. Most would consider her face somewhere between "cute" and "pretty," or a mix of both, with deep green eyes and freckles often accented by streaks of soot from her work in the forge.
Clothes and Equipment:
At work, which is most of the time, Bella wears sturdy, practical clothing, with heavy gloves and apron to protect her from sparks and other dangers of the forge. Even away from work, she usually has tools tucked away in the various pockets and pouches of her clothing.

I agree that the food court and ale garden could probably have been all one thread. And I mentioned before that maybe on the horse racing, having the penalty for missing an obstacle only applying at the end, so you have stacking penalties, but cascading failures causing a death spiral. All in all, I enjoyed it a lot. More could be a lot of fun.

Anything social was my favorite. And not for the obvious reason, but because I get a chance to talk to people and get to know their characters better without having a competition getting in the way. Keep in mind I somewhat include the carnival games in this because everyone's character was having a blast from what I can tell so it adds to the social aspect. I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the dice rolling but I understand why you did that. I honestly can't think of anything superior to that mechanic that wouldn't overly complicate games (Giving bonuses based on backstory? Like....Bella vs. Draga, Draga's a friggen dragon so she'd get at least a +4 to her dice) so it's just something I gotta deal with.

Badger
Committed
Roleplay posts: 81
Age: 108
Physical Description: As nearly as he can tell, Badger is more than a century old, but appears to be in his mid-30's from the human perspective. He stands at a stocky 3'4, and has a muscular frame. A crop of pinkish-purple hair on his head is normally covered by a hat, and his white, toothy, segmented grin is always on display. Big ears, green eyes, and a bulbous nose give him the obvious look of the classic gnome.
Clothes and Equipment: If Badger is not working (that is to say performing) he can normally be spotted in his normal old street rags; a brown coverall type garment with a ratty shirt on underneath. He always has a trick or two tucked in his pockets, and is very fond of short blades.

Because of school, work, and life in general, I did not get to participate in the festival as much as I intended to (it actually happened on finals week for me haha), but the stuff I did get to play around in I really enjoyed! You did a great job!
The king and queen contest was a great idea, and even though I didn't make it in, the jousting contest seemed super fun. Like Kelly, I really liked anything that involved characters interacting with each other socially, and I got a huge kick out of the craziness at the game booths (the ring toss and the strength testing thing were hilarious xD).
As for the voting mechanic for king and queen, I'm just about convinced it might not matter at all if its limited to people actually at the festival or not. I can't pick two participants out of that thread that wouldn't have made a fantastic king and queen, and on that basis even a roll of random chance would have been a successful selection method. Even so, maybe limit the voting in some way next time (already looking forward to next time!) and we'll see how that works? It'll still be stupid fun, and we'll still end up with great festival royalty, and that's an outcome I think everyone can be happy with!
Thanks again Gany!

In no particular order, my thoughts are as follows. Though I only played the one, my favorite game in concept was the ring toss. This is because no matter what you rolled, you got something, and could walk away. Some candy or a cookie isn’t much, no, but it’s something and more than the 95% chance of playing the strongman game once and receiving nothing. To this extent, I think that games with consolation prizes like the ring toss game are good, and games with options to say, decide how many times you’re going to play beforehand, might also be good, so characters who are going to sit there and play until they get a prize don’t need to continue to edit their post or post 5-10 times until they roll a winning number. I don’t think that either of those is particularly fun for whoever’s doing it, so if the game design can minimize those cases, that would be ideal, is my opinion. Having multiple food court threads for multiple sorts of food was a good idea, as it allowed for multiple socialization scenes to progress simultaneously without taking place in the same thread, and for characters to go from one to another. Three or four of those is probably about the right number, I think. My favorite contest was the King & Queen contest, right up until the point where the votes got massively skewed. I can’t say how to fix that or make it fair, as some players simply have more characters and energy than others, and it wouldn’t help much to say something such as “You can’t vote for your own characters” or something like that. However, what I do mean to say is that I as a player am not too terribly interested in the dice contests; that’s just me. They’re interesting, sure, but I’m not personally one for participating. I would suggest keeping contests that are not dice-based in events, that might instead challenge a player’s writing skill, a character’s ability to tell a story, or some other non-dice, non-combat sort of thing. For example, the Land Tillers’ State hosted this Food Festival last year. That was neat. And then they also invited over some warrior, mage, fighter, sorts of people, to tell stories to their soldiers, a few of which can be read here. You could probably do something with a few appointed judges, and have characters perform something, or present something of theirs for review. That would prevent voting problems, at least. I think the feast should have started one day later. Timing these sorts of things is going to be difficult, and this is just sort of my opinion, in that I woke up one morning and saw the feast, where I expected at least one more day of festival first, but I think one day more before the final thing starts, but more or less the same overall length is good. It’ll depend a lot on each event, though, and I don’t think you should look at how long this was, and apply it verbatim to the next one. The number of threads was good. You could perhaps do more, but I wouldn’t do any less. There were frequently multiple scenes taking place at multiple times within the same thread, and I think allowing the space to keep that sort of thing to a comfortable minimum is a good idea.
