“Greyiron… you mean the chancellor? I watched him win the joust.” Bella looked over to Lady Genevieve St. James and saw that her friend meant what she said. The slight stammer in her voice as she tripped over the words conveyed her pain with enough clarity to make the point. “I saw you dancing with him at the feast, too. I was talking to the high lady and the emira of Sakand, and when I went to look for you afterwards, I didn’t see you. I… Um… I thought it had gone well.” Bella looked down into her cup for a moment, trying to gather her thoughts, then smiled warmly to her friend. “If you would like to talk about it, I’m here. But I don’t think it is as bad you think it is. He would be lucky to have another night to dance with you, after all.” |

"I walked out on him," Genevieve revealed, and then felt... shocked. She usually did not reveal the intimacies of her life to anyone, and although Genevieve was certainly coming to adore and cherish Annabelle "Bella" Khorudan, that usually did not mean an invitation into the views of her world. After all, her facade was a carefully constructed one to insure that the enchantress would always be polite, but alone. Friendly, but constantly isolated. Then again, that couldn't very well be true, could it? Upon reflection, Genevieve could see how her behavior was almost desperate for social interaction, for a very human need to connect to someone -- to be cherished and adored. Yet, her emotional troubles ran so deep. When it finally came to the moment of truth, she pulled back into the darkness. Where she belonged. |

Bella smiled warmly and reached across the table, lightly placing her hand on Lady Genevieve St. James ’s for a moment. “Did he say something wrong? Or was it all moving too fast? I didn’t mean to imply… I mean… well, I am sure you had your reasons. If he is a gentleman, he will understand. And if he does not understand, then he does not deserve you. You are a kind, and caring, and wonderful woman, Genevieve. You should be with someone just as wonderful. Even if it might be hard to find someone like that.” The dwarf laughed softly and withdrew her hand, picking up the sandwich to take a bite. Of course, she was aware that Genevieve had her issues. Everyone did. But Bella absolutely meant what she said. Even if it might come from a place of ignorance, knowing little of Genevieve’s past, Bella absolutely believed that her friend deserved only the best in this world. |

Genevieve might have just been about to describe how foolish she had been that night, but came up short, mildly shocked at the way Annabelle "Bella" Khorudan spoke about the seamstress. Then, her expression turned thoughtful as she looked down at her own food and ate a few bites. Of course, Bella wouldn't know about Genevieve's situation. She couldn't know the mistakes Genevieve had made. But on the tail end of having listened to Ryden speak of her that way, and then Bella as well... When her heart started to hope, the scar at the inside of her wrist began to pulse, and Genevieve took a breath to steady her shoulders. "Non, non, Ryden -- the Chancellor. He is..." She struggled for a moment to find the word. "He is incredible, but I do not believe I am a good woman. -- For him. And I was such a fool that night, running from emotions as if that would make it easier. He followed me and..." Genevieve took a breath, and lifted her eyes off her meal to smile across the way at Bella. "Both of our love lives seem to be a tangle," she quietly laughed, genuinely finding a bit of humor in their situation. |

Bella stared across the table, obviously confused. She had expected Lady Genevieve St. James to demur and claim she wasn’t as special as all that. The woman was obviously not prideful, and Sometimes came off as somewhat down on herself. But not a good woman? Bella just couldn’t see that. Of course, she heard Genevieve tak on a different ending, but she wasn’t sure she believed that was actually what her friend meant. No point to pushing it, though. There was obviously a great deal about Genevieve yet to learn. But this wasn’t the time or place for delving into that. So she let it go, and chose to focus on the last thing she said, instead. She chuckled softly and shook her head, then looked over to Genevieve. “They are, aren’t they? I don’t know what I expected, but… I probably should have guessed it would be a bit of a mess when it finally happened.” |

Genevieve wrinkled her nose, the expression almost adorable on her face. "It has been a long time for me, too." She laughed, and ate more of her meal, speaking casually with Bella in between bites and sips. Another subject rose to the forefront between these two pretty women.
"I am thinking of hosting a dinner party, at my estate in Aozora. I-- I think perhaps I should go out more. Even though it is not really going out," she ended, humor warm on her Gauldish accent.

"Mm, but I do not get away from the house very often. Or... I should say more correctly that not until very recently. I used to only go from my work to my home. For lunch I go to the same place, which is why they know me here and why I have not eaten at many places in Isra." She continued to eat and drink as she chatted, visibly relaxing as she fell into a natural and warm cadence with Annabelle "Bella" Khorudan. "Before you, I took Lady Cassandra to eat at the Midnight Eclipse and it was... it was something of an experience. She is very young and the way she still treats people... Mm. It reminded me of Gauldin." She laughed a little. "Actually made me a bit homesick and nostalgic, actually." "I met Ryden -- the Chancellor, escuse moi, for a business dinner at the Midnight Eclipse but I am not sure that counts as social interaction because he asked me in order to discuss the wardrobe I designed for him." Likewise relaxing into the more casual conversation, Bella smiled and laughed in between bites of food while chatting with Lady Genevieve St. James . “I get out sometimes. I talk to people at the market and I go out for drinks now and then. I met Kelly at the shop, though, actually.” The little smith’s feet swung idly under the table as she talked, the chairs being sized for humans so they couldn’t reach to the ground. “She was looking a new sword, and we started talking about what she needed and that turned to discussion about her lifestyle and… well, it seemed like she wanted to settle down, but was having trouble finding reliable work in one place. So I offered a job helping me to mind the shop. She was a bit of a rake, but sometimes all it takes is someone to give you a chance, right?” |

Genevieve smiled. "You have a good heart, Bella," the enchantress said with genuine sincerity for the dwarf.
"A part of me... well, I remember when I was young and living here, in Travere. Operas and theatre and music. I wish that Isra would have these things." She reflected for a moment on her words as she ate, finishing up her drink and setting the empty cup down. "Perhaps with that new Minister of the Arts it may come."

And turning the conversation back to Prospernalia somehow made Bella brighten up even more. Even though it was over now, she seemed as genuinely excited about as she had been beforehand. “Oh! Genevieve, it was wonderful fun! I met so many new people, and the games, and the food and the… well, you were there. But it was amazing. I didn’t really meet Ganymede very much, but she seemed very nice and fun and she did such a fine job of putting together the festival. If she does bring theatre and music and everything, you will have to bring me to see and tell me which are good and which are vulgar.”
She was rambling more than a little, but she couldn’t help it. She had chosen to live in the human world and be a part of their culture, her own culture now, precisely because of how vibrant and exciting it was. She truly loved the celebrations and holidays, and didn’t even try to hide it.

"But of course!" Genevieve said. "I would love to do so. Perhaps, if Ganymede does not move quickly enough in Isra, I will take you to a place here in Travere," she said. She lifted her hand to signal to Jean-Michel that she was ready to pay, and insisted on doing so if Bella put up a fight.
"I love watching the ballet. Have you been to one?" she asked as Jean-Michel left the table, presumably to run up their tally and come back with change.

The smith did, in fact, attempt to pay, but didn’t argue too much over it. Instead, she noted to herself that she would pay next time, and that would be perfectly fine. “A ballet? No, I haven’t seen one. That’s a Gauldish type of dancing, right?”

"I would say it is more of a type of performance although it is dance," Genevieve said and thought for a moment as she tried to find the right words. "It is not a type of dancing that is taught to the nobles and the court and such to be easily danced at balls and parties, but it is a special type of dance that people would go to see... if that makes sense?" She smiled up at Jean-Michel as he brought back the change, leaving a wealthy tip. She looked at Annabelle "Bella" Khorudan. "Shall we go? Kelly is no doubt waiting for your return," Genevieve laughed gently as she stood from her table, her elegant gown whispering quietly along her frame as she moved. |

“Oh, that sounds wonderful!” Bella smiled brightly at the idea. She was always interested to see the arts of the human world. So bright and vibrant and full of life. Even when they were sad and tragic, they were overflowing with emotion. It was the human way, as much as she could tell. To throw themselves into the moment and to feel what was happening so powerfully. So different from stern and stoic way of the dwarves in their mountain, the humans. And that was what she loved about them. She nodded and hopped down from her chair when Lady Genevieve St. James stood up. “Yes, I think we’ve left her alone long enough. Thank you so much for this. We really should do it more often.” |
