Wendy's ice drill rushed through the air, crushing the daemon thoroughly against the fortified walls of the fort. As it passed a wisp of red light escaped skyward. Meanwhile Rani's whip of magma careened through the group of charging daemons. Their corpses disintegrated, the ashes leaving an ashy residue on the floor or the hall. One escaped the attack, skittering up onto the wall before transitioning to the ceiling. The beaked horror was leapt toward Rani before being caught short by the edge of Ralf's shield. The Varen warrior would charge, his rush unimpeded due to Hirhan's clever wards which would deflect the daemon's reaching limbs. Ralf's first overhead strike would cleave the creature in twain, leaving two smaller horrors which erupted in a cacophony of screeching until their screams were cut short by the thrusts of Ralf's sword.
What followed was a deathly silence. Hirhan felt at his lenses. "That was four of them. Eight left-"
He collapsed onto the floor, hollering out in shock and sudden agony. On another plane a psychic assault ravaged the magus's mind. In the shadows of the court a daemon stalked, unseen by all but Hirhan.
He managed one phrase.
"The court. It's in the court."

Raena Fletcher

Roleplay posts: 152
Age: 26
Physical Description: Standing at a height of six feet one inch, Raena Fletcher is a tall, very well-built young woman. Her skin is fairly pale, yet has a slight lively glow, and she has pale blue eyes that speak of a world weariness far beyond her age. Her snow white hair is always cut at about shoulder-length, silky and flowing and always well-kept despite her otherwise Spartan nature. She has full, though never painted lips, hardly ever seeming to turn up in a smile anymore. She has a long, deep scar running up from the bottom of her left jawline to the middle of her left cheek, marring her otherwise unblemished skin. Beneath her right eye, a tattoo in the shape of a fleur de lis has been inked. It looks almost ritual in nature, but its origins are as yet unknown.
================================
Clothes and Equipment: Over her travels, Raena has collected many pieces of heavy armour from her fallen foes and allies alike, melting it down and reforging it into a suit of plate maille unique to her and incredibly sturdy and heavy. The suit is stained forest green with bronze trim, a design embezzled in bronze on both pauldrons, one of a fleur de lis and the other a diving raven. Her bronze gorget has been shaped into the shape of a skull. In addition, a tattered orange-brown cloak wraps around her figure, obscuring her form in battle as well as adding an element of humility to her otherwise splendid armour. She does not tend to wear a helmet into battle, preferring the widest field of view as she can get.
As for armament, she tends to use a heavy enchanted two-handed flamberge sheathed upon her back as her primary weapon, with a short gladius and buckler as a backup. Finally, she carries a set of throwing knives within her cloak, and she's fairly proficient at aiming with them.
Outside of battle, she tends to wear simple linen clothing, preferring function and comfort over form. She hardly ever wears shoes outside her armour, either, having developed well-callused and strong feet to match her hands as a result.

Raena mutters something in Voidspeak that translates roughly to, "Void, guide my hand." before charging into the fray right next to Ralf. It seems as if the darkness of the cavern swirls about her as unsheathes and swings her flamberge at the nearest daemon's head in one fluid motion, aiming to decapitate it and anything else within a five foot radius with one swipe. Her monstrous strength, only enhanced by her connection with The Void, is in display, allowing her to slice through several layers of unarmoured daemon meat

"Court, huh?" Wendy said as she continued to juggle the glowing rock. She tossed it down to the courtyard with a flick of her wrist, landing it in the middle and illuminating the area 40 feet out.

Rani was nervous for a moment, but relieved when Ralf sprung into action and intercepted the creature that was going for her. Rani would re-position and see how her Chain Lightning would work on the monsters, charging the electricity between her fingertips.

Ralf's morale after killing one of the beasts substantially increased bis efficiency. He quickly ducked and rolled towards his shield, in such a way that he grabbed onto its strap mid-roll. As he arose, he brought the light round shield in front of him,, deflecting the attack of another daemon, then bashed forward and opened his guard to thrust out at it.
Ralf maintained an agile moveset during the fight, blocking often and lashing out at opportune times. "Come on! See if you can handle the fury of the northmen!" Ralf tried his best to draw the attention of the daemons towards him, banging on his shield with his sword when he was in no immediate danger.

Already fatally wounded by Rani's lava, the last of the daemons on the right flank fell easily to Ralf's swordsmanship. The creature lunged at Ralf, only to be cut down by the impact of the Northman's shield. The enchantment activated, releasing a wave of kinetic energy which catapulted the creature backwards. His sword finished the deed.
The creature Ralf had originally bisected had split into two smaller creatures. As if linked by their very souls the twin creatures launched a fierce attack at Raena, covering one another's attacks while flanking at the stalwart warrior's sides. Her original strike would be swiftly dodged by the twin creatures, but in time Raena's reflexes overcame the creature's alien minds. She delivered a clean hit to the skull of one of the harriers before swiftly executing the second in due order.
In anticipation of coming waves Rani's fingers would begin to crackle with energy, ready to unleash an electrical charge on an attack which never came. The enemies on the top floor were now all defeated: for now.
Hirhan's screams continued as the mage was rendered defenseless against his opponent's psychic assault. On another plane his soul waged a fierce battle against an enemy who's conscience defied rationality or explanation. He could face something he could predict... but a daemon? He would hold on for now.
While the light of Wendamari's luminous stone failed to reveal any enemies in the court, the stone itself did. As she watched it descend she saw the stone bounce off of something large and invisible near the center of the court. There was a presence there: something big.
Several tense seconds later the party would feel something shift under their feet. Suddenly the floor beneath them would give away, the deluge of sand, and rubble rushing past any lucky enough to find a handhold as they fell with the debris into the court. Dusting themselves off, anyone who ended up on the floor of the building would see the vast maw of a scaled beast turn towards them. The creature was more grounded in reality than the others, devoid of any tentacles of warping features. Spittle would drool out of the thing's mouth, the slick substance burning the stone where it fell with an acidic hiss. Well, that would explain what happened to the support columns.

Wendy dusted herself off as she got to her feet.
"Well, that happened." She said as she looked around. Eventually her gaze returned to the living wall of demon standing before her and she stopped in her tracks. Then she immediately backed up.
"Okay, I'm willing to stop underestimating them now...." She whispered, terror in her voice.

As Raena takes a few hits from the daemons, she grimaces, only to be replaced by a slight smile as their blood sprays all over her armour, having caught them both in one swing after a few tries. Suddenly, though, her feet are wrenched out from beneath her too quickly for her reflexes to handle, and she goes tumbling down the sandy ramp, falling in a heap of armour and blades next to Wendy. She takes stock of herself and her surroundings. Miraculously, her blade hadn't skewered her or any of her allies on the way down, and it stands up before Raena, stabbed into the volcanic rock that makes up the ground.
As Raena struggles to her feet and dusts her armour off, she walks forward to get her flamberge, only to be stopped in her tracks by the maw of the great beast. Her eyes widen slightly, and although she begins to advance again to retrieve her precious blade, it's much more cautiously and slowly this time, ready to roll to either side at a moment's notice.

Wendy started to jab her hand into her backpack without turning around, hoping to pull the right scroll out. She managed to pull a large group of them, which she started looking through furiously, dropping the ones she doesn't want to the ground.
"Comeoncomeoncomeoncomeon....." She repeated as quickly as possible as she looked through the papers. Eventually she stopped on one and let out a squeal of joy, bouncing up and down a little bit before clearing her throat. In a powerful voice, she read the scroll outloud in a language only Hirhan would understand. Although he was wracked with pain from the creature bombarding his poor mind, he managed to hear one word he understood: Daylight.
Wendy pointed above the creature towards the ceiling and suddenly it lit up. Brighter than her lit stone, brighter than Rani's lightning, bright enough to be mistaken for the sun itself. The entire room was filled with glorious sunlight as though they had walked into the middle of the desert midday.

Ralf excitedly - and rather brutally - finished off the last of the daemon's, slicing its head clean off. "Cake," he said to himself. Within moments, however, he tumbled down into the court below. "Oof!"
Aching, he pulled himself back up. That's when the great beast was seen. "Oh my," Ralf proclaimed, "can this day get any better?"
Ralf remained in a defensive position, his sword in front of him to catch any acid that may fly his way; maybe Hirhan's magic could absorb it too. This beast may be to large to fight head-on, so Ralf would dodge out of the way if it charged, avoiding close-quarters with it if possible.

A blinding light came into being above, casting wide shadows as pulsated above. The daemons were unaffected mostly, though everyone within eyesight of the light, daemons included, would be temporarily blinded by the sudden transition from near darkness to blazing sunlight.
The great beast wasn't content to wait until it's eyes readjusted: instead it would charge forward directly to where the rest of the party was moving. No one would be able to see it in time, but it would be impossible not to hear the creature rush forward on its six stumpy legs. The acid in the thing's mouth would splash about as it charged, leaving a wash of flesh-eating fluids in the daemon's wake.
Of the party, only Hirhan, Wendy and Raena would not be totally blinded: the first because his eyes were already closed as he writhed in a ball in the corner of the room, the second because she had closed her eyes upon completing the spell, and the third because she had been looking downward at the ground in search of her sword. Upon turning upward she would see the beast charging toward her allies. From her current position she would be safe: the same was not true of Wendy and the troll girl.
While she was certainly blinded, Rani would still be able to continue charging her attack. She would hear the thunder of the creature's hooves as it barreled toward her, along with the sound of metal armor impacting on stone as Ralf dodged to the right. Ralf had been lucky: he had landed sideways, on his shield. The potent magics of the shield absorbed almost all of the force of the heavily armored warrior's impact, charging the shield's reserves of stored energy. When he next shouted the keyword it would unleash energy equal to not just the total force of a falling Varan warrior, but also that of every strike his enemies had inflicted upon the face of his shield since he had last used it's powers. His reflexes were quick: when he heard the approaching beast he immediately dodged, coming to a stop near the creature's left flank. Then the light would shine, blinding him. When his vision returned to normal the beast would still be charging, though it would be far enough past him that it wouldn't see him coming from behind.
Just as she finished her spell Wendy would feel something grabbing at her waist: a force suddenly catapulting her into the air. The force of whatever had grabbed her from behind was crushing and merciless. Whatever it was was trying to crush her in two. If given time it might even be successful. The invisible beast her stone had detected had ripped her out of the way of the charging creatures path, though not into a safer position. The world flew past as a blur as the creature whipped her through the air. She came to an abrupt stop hanging upside down , her body dangling over a mouth that seemed to be floating freely in space. The creatures skin may have been invisible, but it's interior wasn't. The rings of teeth slick with rotten gore and saliva, and the horrible beak at the base of the creature's powerful throat: that was perfectly visible. Judging by her height she was only a few meters away from the ceiling above. This daemon was tall, and cast a tall shadow to match: a sinister shadow of claws, tentacles and teeth, along with the silhouette of a pair of bat-like wings sprouting from it's back.

"ACK! I can't see!" Rani stumbled backward. She shut her eyes and asked her ancestors for help while she charged her attack. "Ancestors please guide me..."
Rani listened carefully for the enemy. Ralf's cluttering distracted her momentarily. Soon she would figure out the rough area of where the sound of the creatures feet stomping was. She extended her arm out and opened her palm, the white hot plasma surges from her hand. Hopefully it would hit the monster, she would be backing up blindly afterward until her vision returned.

The water on Wendy's back started to slash at the tentacle randomly, desperately trying to tear its master free from the demon before she's swallowed alive. She couldn't think straight- this was beyond anything she was prepared for! Wendy started to groan in pain as the demon slowly crushed her, wrapping it's tentacle around her tighter and tighter. "D....damm...it...." She winced as she tried to pull herself out. It was no use- the monster would snap her in two. This is where her adventure would end. There was no way to get out of this. "WRONG!" Wendy closed her eyes. "There's always a way! You just have to think of one! Don't just think outside the box! Reinvent the box and think outside of that!" Wendy flashed back to a time long ago, during a training session with her fairy grandmother, the fairy swashbuckler: Birdi of the Seas. Wendy sat on a stump in an open field, her grandmother hovering in the air. Despite being thousands of years old (or so she loves to boast), she didn't look a day over 25. "Grandma, that makes no sense." Wendy said, sulking on the stump. Birdi zoomed down to look her in the eye- not a difficult feat, but the massive size difference didn't help. She grabbed Wendy's chin and raised her head. "Sense is for the smart! We are the brave and mighty!" Birdi said in a powerful voice. Despite being only a foot tall, her voice was low, proud, and carried far. "What if I want to be both?" "What you want is to be clever! A smart person is best in the library, learning new ways to fight ever-stronger foes from previous experiences. A true adventurer thinks of new tactics on the spot! Leave the ways of the old to the wizards, you're an adventurer- an explorer who seeks danger as though it was delicious cake!" "That's....that's something you can do, but not me. I-I-I don't know the first thing about thinking things up on the spot. Best I can do is...." Wendy lamented as she moved her hand around. Water pulled itself from the ground and floated above her hand. She looked defeated, but Birdi let out a boisterous laughter. "Wendy, you have a gift! I didn't have fancy magic like you and I was in far more dangerous situations than you can image! My favorite example: The jaws of the merciless dire crocodile!" "Grandma, I've heard this story seven hun-" " THERE I WAS with my team! A human thief, a druid and her pet raptor, and a lizardfolk paladin who had saved us from the grasps of alien mummies-" "You said the thief was a sylph-" " SYLPH thief, human druid and her pet raptor, and a lizardfolk paladin who saved us from the grasps of alien mummies! We were sent out to face a terrifying monster who was attacking a small village in the forest weekly: a creature none had every seen-" "It was a wyvern." Birdi popped Wendy on the head lightly. Despite her size it had weight to it. "C'mon, kid, I'm trying to cheer you up. Let me finish." Birdi said, crossing her arms. Wendy sighed and hung her head, gesturing for Birdi to continue. Birdi grabbed her tiny sword and continued to tell the story, swinging the blade as she spoke. "The group had requested I act as bait for the dreaded monster-" "Wyvern-" "Wyvern! I saw no problems with this- I was the most qualified for the job, considering only I could fly. So there I was, in the middle of the swamp, lit up by the paladin's Light spell, my team hanging out in a nearby bush to ambush the creature. After an hour I became bored. I decided to travel around for a bit, possibly getting its attention. Eventually I made it to the shores of a nearby pond. I peered in, thinking the wyvern was down there....and do you know what happened?" "You were attacked by a di-""I WAS ATTACKED BY A DIRE CROCODILE!"Birdi's voice cried out into the clearing, drawing the attention of the other pixies, who watched on with interest. Some had not heard the story before, but knew of Birdi. Among them, she was a legend. "The thing clamped down on my lower body and deathrolled me so quickly I couldn't see straight! My party boosted towards the monster but they wouldn't get to me in time before it devoured me. I couldn't attack it- alas, even my wondrous sword alone wouldn't be enough to fell the beast! So I had an idea- the most brilliant and clever idea I ever had! I pretended..... to lose."The other fey gasped at the thought. Wendy rolled her eyes as Birdi continued. "It swallowed me whole! Didn't even bother to chew! I could hear my party cry out for me as I played dead and sunk into the monster's stomach! But 'twas a ruse! As soon as I hit its belly, I took my sword and cut my way out of his stomach from the inside! A simple feat, as its tough hide did not protect against my ingenious plan! With me free from the creature, suffering some....minor burns-" "You were nearly fucking dead, Grandma!" "I decided to get even with this beast! Taking no quarter, and with my allies keeping the crocodile busy, I rose up into the air, and rammed my sword into its head! A satisfying piercing sound radiated from the impact as the creature stopped its onslaught. After a few seconds it fell over..... dead." The pixies listening in cheered for the story as Birdi hovered in the air, bowing to them. Wendy stood up, looking annoyed. "Okay, two things: 1. I still don't believe that happened. And 2, I'm too big for that. The crocodile would've chewed me up before eating me. If I was in a similar situation, I'd be dead!" Birdi chuckled heartedly before caressing Wendy's cheek. "Wendamari, my dear, you're just not thinking outside the box! I assume Gowran taught you the liquidation technique." "The...the one that....turns me into water?" Birdi grinned and hovered back a bit. "She didn't have much of a stomach for adventure, but my daughter knows what she's doing!" Birdi said proudly. "I mean....she taught me that, but I don't..." Wendy said as she thought. Suddenly it occured to her what Birdi meant. And suddenly, against this demon, Wendy knew what to do. "Create that box, Wendy." A water tendril stopped its failed attack on the demon and rushed down towards the scrolls she dropped earlier. The ice from before soon joined her and turned to water. "Think outside of it." It grabbed a scroll and wrapped it up inside its liquid self before returning to Wendy. The rest of the water forced itself into every orifice on Wendy. To anyone paying attention, it was though it was devouring her from the inside out as her body began to melt in the most painful fashion possible. "Then break out." To Wendy it felt like all her muscles were relaxing at once. It was a soothing experience, if a bit unusual. Wendamari melted into water, the scroll inside the liquid, falling out of her clothing and into the beast's mouth, swirling towards its stomach like water down a drain.

Raena Fletcher
Dedicated
================================

Raena snatches up her flamberge and rolls to the side just as the beast charges forward, shielding her eyes as the light nearly blinds her. When her eyes are able to readjust, she sees Wendy being snatched up by the invisible beast. Raena's heart is in her throat as she sees Wendy apparently destroying herself, perhaps in order to destroy the beast along with her. Raena could not let one with a light of life so bright as Wendy become a martyr. Whatever follows next, Raena doesn't see, as the fear turns to rage. She wouldn't have the first person she'd felt affection for, her first friend, her first companion in the last ten years be devoured by some animal. Without even an incantation she allows the darkness to flow into her body, consuming her mind in an instant, and she speaks with the uncountable voices of The Void itself, her sclera turning black and her body shuddering as it's wracked with unimaginable pain. Although her speech is in common this time, it still carries that disturbing psychologically grating edge to it, and it still sounds as if a million voices are screaming and whispering in union. "UNHAND HER," booms the voice, before Raena charges in, beads of sweat and blood flying from every pore as she begins her reckless assault, her strength multiplied with the guidance of The Void.

The light blinds Ralf for a moment, but he quickly consolidates his position, listening for the beast, and then blindly running away from where it may be coming.
When the beast is no longer coming for him, Ralf takes another moment to steel himself, trying to find where the beast may be. The then utters the keyword, pointing his shield at where he thinks it is, and unleashes the powerful energy from within.

The tall dæmon gnashed it's teeth in confusion as the liquid remnants of Wendy slid into it's gaping maw. It has more pressing concerns. The white haired human had leapt at her with slashing blades and murderous intent. Emotion. Energy. She would be delicious. The older human had been taken out of the fight. He would leave him to the other dæmon. From the old man's mind the creature withdrew it's presence, tearing at the man's psyche with the same care and subtlety of a maniac tearing an arrow's barbed head out of a gaping wound. Hirhan's corpse would shudder and a thin stream of blood would flow from the man's nose.
The creature's psychic assault would be directed at Raena as she jumped. Her first few slashes would land, cutting deep notches into the dæmon's tentacles and clawed limbs. Blood would flow, leaving her slick with gore as she cut her way into the mass of limbs on the dæmon's lower half. She would feel something tearing at her mind, assaulting her with pure pain. Each tendon would feel on fire, every nerve like it was being torn.
The other daemon would collide with Rani just after the troll girl's attack hit it square on the nose. Rani would go flying, hurled by the momentum of the charging beast. Impacting with the circle at the room's center she would open her eyes to see the beast's face was brutally scarred by her plasma. Raising it's head the thing bellowed to the sky, spitting acid as it hollered. While her body had thanlfully been unharmed by the creature's acid, her travel-bag was starting to bubble and boil as the caustic fluid tore into the pack's exterior. It would spread to her too, if she didn't remove it soon.
Ralf would charge at the acid-spewer's flank, indifferent to his blinded eyes. Sound would be enough, or would have been had the creature not let out such a loud cry. By the time he reached the thing's back his sight would have returned, allowing him to direct his strike into the thing's relatively unarmored rear. Raising his shield over his head Ralf would shout aloud in the language of his forefathers. None but him would understand what he had said: HALT.
The shield released it's stored energy instantly, imparting it onto the dæmon's rearmost leg right at the joint. A sickening snap would resound as bone was sundered by the strike, utterly crippling the daemon's hind leg. The thing collapsed, sinking to the floor. Hopefully the adventurer's would be fooled, thinking it was dead. Already the creature's inner organs shifted about to accommodate the weapons it was growing within it's weighty frame.

Ralf looked surprised at what he had done to the great beast. "Oh," he proclaimed, grinning, not really expecting what happened. "I... I suppose that's over," Ralf said to himself before turning to find where Hirhan was. "Brother," he cried out as he noticed his corpse in the corner on the ground.
Ralf quickly sheathed his sword and readjusted his shield, quickly running to where Hirhan lay. Ralf gripped Hirhan's shoulder with his right hand, pulling him over so he was facing up. "Brother? Brother, can you hear me?" Ralf tried desperately to wake his friend up to no avail.
"Agghhh!" Ralf roared loudly and turned around. In his eyes now raged a bloodlust that only few Varan unlocked. He faced where Rani and her opponent were. "Not another," he roared, not wanting to lose his dear Rani next. Ralf stampeded forward, oblivious to his surroundings, and when he got next to Rani's daemon he reared his left arm back and then slammed it the rim of his shield into the creature's back (assuming it had not turned around).
Ralf reached down and grabbed Rani's arm to help her back up. "No one touches my friends and gets away with it!"

The demon's bombardment of attacks would cease to end on the fighters as they attempted to tear it to pieces, but to no avail. However, in the middle of combat, the creature would begin to feel....bloated. As though its stomach was full after eating a large amount of ice cream. The feeling slowly turned from fullness to full-on pain as something started to grow larger and larger within its belly. Something sharp. It would feel its stomach tear from the inside out.
The others would begin to see the creature swell up as crystals of ice slowly prodded its way out of its skin, followed by blood and gore dripping from the holes. After the demon had inflated into a round ball with massive spikes impaling it from inside, the spikes would become to move in a circular pattern, carving the skin as they moved. It was being chopped to pieces as though there was a saw blade inside growing larger and larger.
Eventually the creature could contain the swelling no more and it exploded- pouring its innards across the room and splattering the people below in sludge. In its place stood a naked drow woman, standing a good 30 feet tall, with a massive shell of spiked ice on her back. She grinned and put her hands on her hips, oblivious to her nudity.
"And THAT is how an adventurer does it!" She cheered in a loud voice. She looked around at the people below before realizing she was without her clothes. She began to blush.
"...well, you don't have to look....." She said sheepishly as she tried to cover up. Almost immediately after it seemed Wendy continued to grow, the ice on her back melted back into its normal water tendrils as Wendy took up more and more room.
"CrapcrapcracpcrapCRAPCRAPCRAP!" She said as she was forced to her knees and was eventually squished into a space far too small for her. At her massive height, she was stuck on her stomach. Everyone and everything around her was pushed back towards the sides of the room, leaving only a little for everyone to move.
"....Icanfixthis." She said quickly as she looked at the tiny fighters around her (or as best as she could with her limited movement).
