With a little help of the Lieutenant, she put herself into the saddle and got comfortable.
"I think I will be fine on that." she said with a smile and reached down to strap her legs into the saddle. She was slightly relieved that she would be strapped instead of just her own weight keeping her in the saddle.

"I must say Madalena, you look pretty good up there. We might make a Rider out of you yet." He winked at her as he climbed up in one smooth motion. It was an action to him that was as natural as climbing in or out of bed, if not more natural.
Once he had strapped in, a matter of mere moments, Skye stood up, in a manner similar to a horse. Calgary's form stayed nearly motionless as the griffin stood up. Her wings stretched out as she walked out onto the outer platform, displaying their full magnificence. She let out a screech and her muscles flexed, getting ready to leap into the air at Calgary's command.
"Are you ready?"

"I doubt that. I would be no good in combat at all haha. Though I could get used to sitting here."
Madelena was a bit bumpy when adjusting to the movements of the Griffin when it stood up. She wobbled a bit back and forth, but the straps kept her in place.
When she noticed the Griffin was ready to leap from the platform Madelena put her arms around the waist of the Lieutenant, gripping him decently tight. "I hope you don't mind John, it is still a bit scary." she said with an apologetic tune in her voice

"I do not mind in the slightest Madalena."
In fact, the grin on his face said he would have preferred it, but for that he was grateful she was behind him.
The platform was high above the Free City, and from here you could see all of the city, in addition to quite a bit of the surrounding lands. The Norkari Mountains could be seen off in the distance, their eventual destination.
"Alright Skye, nice and easy now, she is a first time Rider."
The griffin stared back at him, snorted, and, with a few beats of her powerful wings, leaped into the morning sky.

Renalt strolled into the barracks, finding Commodore Finch's office without too much difficulty. He knocked, putting on his best business face.
"Hello? Commodore Finch? It's Renalt Fletcher, I had an appointment to meet with you."
He waited patiently, resting the box on a nearby flat surface.

Liz lifted her reading glasses from her face as she peered at the door. Nothing but paperwork for a day since she had gotten back, and her entire legion was on furlough. She had to fill out requisition forms to repair arms and armor, new saddles, new swords and arrows, it all had to be reviewed and signed by her personally. Not to mention the actual reforms she was implementing after witnessing the performance of the previous batch. And she had to go over those proposed Naval reforms as well.
"Come in Mr. Fletcher!" Her voice would sound slightly muffled through the door, but its distinct military clip could be heard regardless.
Her desk was stacked neatly with piles of paperwork and the occasional book. The Dawn Riders Coat of Arms hung on the wall behind her, the only decoration besides a small flowering plant on one of the shelves. Liz herself was in her general's uniform, it made sitting so much comfortable, though her armor was hung on a rack specifically designed for that purpose behind her.

Renalt stepped through the door, grinning widely and placing the box on the table.
"Hello there, Commodore Finch. Thank you very much for agreeing to meet with me. I'd like to talk to you today about the field rations of the Dawn Riders."
He pulled out a small paper bag, containing the typical field ration of a Dawn Rider.
"Dried meat. Dried vegetables. Hardtack. Probably sufficient, but not exactly inspiring, don't you think? Dull, tasteless food lowers morale, especially on long campaigns. You want food to be something for your brave riders to look forward to, not another ordeal to be endured. That's why I've developed this."
He opened the box, revealing 120 foil-wrapped bars, stacked neatly. He took one out and unwrapped it, revealing a glossy, pale green rectangle. Snapping the bar in half, he showed that it was, in fact, a chocolate bar with some manner of coating.
"Chocolate bars, easily packed to be tossed into a field ration. Instant morale boost, and a nice burst of energy as well. I've hard panned them, giving them this nice candy coating and making them resistant to melting. As you can see, they're easily packed into these crates of 120."
He offered the candy-coated chocolate bar to Finch, smiling encouragingly.
"So...here's my proposal. I can make these in my shop, but not particularly quickly. If you'd like to order them in bulk and give me an advance, I can set up a factory to begin production. I've done the math, and can have thirty crates a week being produced in as little as a month. Perhaps the other branches of the Isran military will find them useful as well. So, what do you say? Would you like to put in an order? Or would you prefer a small-scale trial run?"

She listened carefully as Renalt spoke, keeping one eye on him and another on the stack of papers she was sifting through, trying to find her budget and how much she had dedicated to rations.
Of course she knew who Renalt was, his chocolate store was legendary inside the city, many of her Riders had been known to frequent it during off-duty hours. She took the offered piece of chocolate from Renalt and bit off a piece. As expected, the chocolate was delicious.
"Thirty crates a week would be plenty, how much are you asking for to do this? I agree that our field rations are bland, but they are nutritious, hmmmmmm. Is there any citrus in these?"

Renalt grinned, seeing that she enjoyed the chocolate. She was considering it, that was good. He patted the box absently, reminding himself that he would have to add crate production to the total cost of manufacture. This was going well.
"Hmm...1500 gold pieces a week, with the first six weeks in advance. The advance is so that I can tool up and start production. As I said, I can begin delivering in about a month. There isn't any citrus in them right now, but it would be a trivial matter to add it in. Just a little orange zest to the mixture or some juice to the coating, that would be enough to keep away scurvy. Orange in chocolate is actually quite popular, too."
The price was a little on the high side, but still reasonable, especially since Renalt was already the most well-known chocolate manufacturer around. He could see it already: a bustling factory, churning out crate after crate of neatly-wrapped coated chocolates.

1500 a week? That was a bit steep, but that was all part of the negotiation game was it not? She liked Renalt, and he had presented his case in a clear and concise manner. But she had things to consider as well. She smiled and gestured to one of the chairs in front of her.
"Please take a seat Mr. Fletcher, would you care for some tea or coffee?"
Once his reply was given, she would send one of her staff to get the required amount of coffee and two mugs.
"Mr. Fletcher, I can do 1200 a week, 6 weeks in advance, and I will do my best to convince the High Admiral to use the chocolate bars to help fight scurvy."

Renalt sat down. Now, for the negotiations. This would be fun.
"Coffee is fine, thank you."
He took a deep breath before continuing, trying to feel out which way he should go with the negotiations. She seemed reasonable enough.
"1200? Hmm...I'm afraid that's not economical for me. Perhaps...1400. I'll even throw in seven different variations, to keep some variety in your brave Dawn Rider's diets."
Reaching into his bag, Renalt pulled out seven more foil-wrapped bars of chocolate. Unwrapping them, he revealed that they each had a different-colored coating.
"Almond, plain, peanut, coconut, caramel, mint, and toffee. The one you have right there is mint, hence the green coating."

The coffee was quickly brought back, one mug set on Liz's desk in front if Renalt and one set in front of her. The staff lieutenant saluted before walking out. Liz blew on it before taking a sip. The coffee nearly scalded the inside of her mouth, but she showed no outward signs of that.
"Mr. Renalt, how about fifteen thousand up front for your factory to get set up, and twelve hundred a week after that. That should be more than enough to set up the factory with quite a bit leftover."

Renalt thought for a moment, then nodded. The weekly cost wasn't quite as high as he'd like, but still gave him a healthy profit. Besides, the advance was more than generous. He could set up a factory quickly enough and pocket the remainder. However, he could also use the lump sum to build a larger factory, and manufacture other candies for private sale. Yes, that sounded like a good idea. Extra profit on all sides.
"That sounds very reasonable, Commodore. I'm glad that we could come to an agreement. Shall we write up a contract, then? Or do you have a lawyer on hand to do that sort of thing?"
He scratched his beard, already imagining a production line of all manner of sweets and goodies. It seemed that ol' Renalt was moving up in the world.

"Excellent! I will have a member of my staff draw up the contract and bring it to your shop later this afternoon."
She takes a further gulp of coffee, draining half of the mug in one go. She set it back down on her desk with a satisfied look on her face. With the upcoming increase in troop count and reorganization, she would not have wanted to pay that much, but she needed to spend that 15k now in order to get a budget increase in the next cycle, so this all worked out perfectly for her.
"I shall expect weekly updates with your progress on the factory Mr. Renalt. If you wish for my assistance in convincing the other branches, do let me know. Is there anything else you needed?"

Getting up, he paused to shake Finch's hand before walking out the door. He left the first crate of chocolates on the table as a gift.

A broad chested man in armor entered the Dawnrider barracks. Anyone worth their salt would be able to tell from the armor and cloak that he was an Aaedanian in the Redsteel Legion, likely an officer. The man removes his helm revealing medium length white hair, glowing golden eyes, a chiseled jaw and several scars. He was unannounced and unexpected, finding his was after a guard pointed him in the right direction. He had come ahead of the Redsteel legion, who along with the rest of the Aaedanians where on the march to Isra.
He stuffed his helm beneath his arm and made his way to the the commodore's office, rapping the door lightly with his armored hand.

She looked up from even more logistics reports as the knock echoed through her room. Her sword was sheathed at her hip and the shield leaned up against her saddle, which was properly stored on the wooden rack for it. If anyone had told her there would be so much damn paperwork she would have turned down the promotion.

Gregor entered her office and shut the door behind him. He turned his golden eyes on the elf that would be his commander before speaking in a smooth Aaedanian (light-irish) accent "General Finch, I am Preator Gregor Bartholomew of the Redsteel Legion; we did not meet in Aaedan but we did fight together." He saluted her in the Aaedanian fashion, basically seeming to stab the center of his left pec with an invisible dagger; a show of respect. "My Queen has decided that the Redsteel, those of us willing at least, shall be gifted to Isra and put under your command. I came ahead of the refugees, as the leader of Redsteel, hoping to actually meet you and get your take on this situation." The man spoke with confidence and a bit of pride.
