Raoul Ferdinand
Dedicated
King of Prospernalia
Roleplay posts: 235
Physical Description: Tall and lean, with his dark, unkempt hair and dark blue eyes, Raul cuts a striking figure. He has strong, broad shoulders and long limbs, obviously accustomed to hard work.
Clothes and Equipment: He typically wears rough, sturdy clothing, stained with dust from the road, and several days' worth of stubble. Despite this, his equipment is immaculately maintained, the mark of a man that lives and dies by his tools. His primary weapon seems to be a large recurved bow, a composite of horn and wood so powerful that it requires extraordinary strength to string, or even pull. He also carries several harpoons, perhaps for hunting large game. His heavy, scaled armor is woven with protective wards.

Seeing Lady Genevieve St. James approach, Raoul looked over and nodded to her, a small smile of recognition on his face. Keen blue eyes drank in the sight of her in her riding clothes, coat and trousers instead of a dress. The strands of hair shaken loose from her bun framed a face flushed with exertion in a way that Raoul decided he liked. It was a very good look for her. “Ah, hello again. You seem in good spirits today. Perhaps you should have a ride more often, yes?”

"Perhaps," Genevieve found herself answering easily to the young, rakish man, Cosette's reins grasped in a hand that seemed used to the gesture. Then again, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to know that the enchantress was a horsewoman. It seemed to fit the stereotype of noble. "But... perhaps not in a race. Cosette is too used to pleasure," the seamstress said with a quiet laugh, her blue eyes warm on his disheveled face.
"I should have known better than to race against you, after giving you a token of good luck," Genevieve went on to say, her Gauldish accent ever-present. She took a few steps closer, her pretty palfrey canting gracefully behind her. A sophisticated horse for a sophisticated woman.
Genevieve held out her hand, still wrapped in the leather of her riding gloves. "Genevieve St. James," she finally introduced herself, having never told him her first name directly. "I think I am also making you and your queen a custom-made outfit as well, non?"

“Pleasure rides, then, Señora St. James,” Raoul took her hand in both of his and bowed low over it. “I am Raoul Ferdinand. And a smile from you is truly all the good fortune a man could desire, no?” Alright now, Raoul, that’s a bit much. Pull it together. He pushed the thought aside as he straightened again, unable to keep the smile from his face. Whatever else was happening, he must be doing something right. Lady Genevieve St. James had come back to talk to him again, after all. If the worst that came of it was another short conversation and gentle rejection, he would call it a good day. “Wait… you are the same St. James as the prize? Lady Fortune smiles on me again, then. She has to it that I will see you again at least one more time.”

The sort of flattery that Raoul Ferdinand sent her way was as equal parts familiar as it was making butterflies in her stomach and a rosy touch to her cheeks -- thankfully already rosy from the exhilaration of her ride. The flowery words were something she had become some-what used to in Gauldin. She knew they meant as much as the tissue paper she laid her gowns in, but even so, it was nice to hear them from someone handsome and capable. Even if he was ten years younger than her and in no way suitable. "At least one more time, oui," Genevieve said, and gently took her hand from his in the pretense of brushing away the thick locks of hair that had escaped her bun. It was now evident that the enchantress must have a golden crown of glory, with locks that swayed and moved far past her shoulders, but her thick hair was always up and coifed, held out of the way. "I only wanted to congratulate you for your win -- and for winning the King of Prospernalia, too," she went on to say, standing as they were in the middle of the public race track, horses at both of their backs. "You have made quite a name for yourself, with or without my skewer stick," Genevieve gently joked.

A quiet chuckle answered Lady Genevieve St. James ’s laugh. “Indeed. Good fortune has followed be since the moment I set eyes on you.” Raoul wasn’t sure if any part of it was actually due to the enchantress’s actions, but it was possible. He would have expected something to be in place to prevent magical interference, though. Or for most of the competitors to have carried some sort of charm with them. Maybe Genevieve’s charm was stronger. Or maybe he was overthinking. In any case, he counted himself blessed. He had pockets full of gold, wondrous prizes coming his way, and was making new friends and contacts in the powerful city-state of Isra. Not bad for a wandering monster hunter. And if he could peddle into more time with the beautiful, high-class woman in front of him now, that would be a big win. “I will look forward to seeing you when the time comes to collect my prize, then. You are located in the city, yes? Do I need to make an appointment beforehand, or just come by during business hours?”

Lady Cassandra stepped forward as the winner was announced, a tad bashful in the presence of the man the newspapers already referred to as the "Heart Throb of Isra" following his landslide victory in the first day's contest. She waved briefly to Genevieve, sad to see that her friend had not won the race. She waited for the hug to end before answering his question.
"You may indeed find me there King Raoul, and I look forward to the visit. I hope you will be satisfied with your prize."

"Interesting, how that happens," Genevieve said to Raoul as he mentioned how lucky he'd been since they met. There was a little gleam in her eye, not one of flirtation, but definitely of amusement, warm-hearted as it was in the monster hunter's direction. There was no hug between Genevieve and Raoul, as the enchantress didn't entirely enjoy being touched, but there was a sort of intimacy in place with the proximity of where they stood and how easy the conversation seemed to flow between the Gauldish noble and the King of Prospernalia. As he spoke, she caught from the corner of her eye how Lady Cassandra approached. The (much) younger woman was pretty and noble and sure to attract the rake's attention. As it should be, in Genevieve's opinion. They were a better match than she was, and Cassandra already had her flirtatious voice maximized, to boot. Sensing that her time was at a close, Genevieve nodded her greeting to Cassandra, and then spoke to Raoul. "Come whenever you have the time, Raoul Ferdinand," she said. "Lady Cassandra, you look very lovely," she said, polite and genuinely meaning her compliments to the younger woman. Her blue eyes glanced between them both. "Enjoy what is left of the Prospernalia, and may your good luck continue," she said with a small laugh to Raoul before gently leading Cosette away.

Raoul watched Lady Genevieve St. James lead her horse away for a moment, then turned to Lady Cassandra Winter . The young noble was stunningly beautiful, of course. Because this was Isra, and Raoul was rapidly deciding that the city must have the highest concentration of beautiful women of all the cities in the world. Not a complaint, of course, merely an observation. “I could not be happier with my prize already.” He grinned up to her with a wink. “But I am sure that I will only be happier after a visit to your shop.”

"As do you Genevieve, though I am not surprised. You always look so stunning." She said, genuinely meaning it.
"Oh? I do hope I can live up to your expectations, King Ferdinand," She teased, making no disguise of her appreciation for his physique.

“I am only King for today and tonight, señorita, and then I will be Raoul again. But you will still be Lady Winter, no? I think I have to more to fear from our meeting not meeting your expectations.” Raoul laughed and shook his head, gesturing up to Lady Cassandra Winter as if there could be some kind of doubt who he was referring to. She was even more steps above him on the social ladder than Lady Genevieve St. James , as far as he could tell, and he was keenly aware of it. But if raoul knew how to walk away when he was out of his depth, he probably would never have taken up his chosen profession in the first place. “But we will see soon enough, one way or another, I think.”

"That is entirely up to you King Ferdinand. Don't take too long to claim your prize, I hate to be kept waiting." She offered him a smile and left to head back to her shop for the evening, a small carriage pulling up to take her away.
