Come one, come all! Test your mastery of the beast, your mastery of the difficult, and finally, your mastery of swiftness! Laid out among the field, a fence all around so as to keep those who are watching safe, is a horse track, complete with heavy obstacles made for the horses-to-race to leap over. The rider who can guide his horse to race around the track, over all obstacles and quicker than anyone else, will win 100 Gold Pieces and a Custom-made jewelry item from Lady Cassandra Winter _____________________________________________________________Applying a Character to the Contest1.) Ganymede Galaii will “open” the contest with an opening post in this thread. Follow Ganymede (or this thread) so you won’t miss it! 2.) You will have 24 Hours to make an IC-post of your character arriving at the horse racing track and submitting themselves to the starting line mounted on a regular horse! (No NPC accounts, only characters that would logically be in Isra allowed)3.) After 24 hours, Ganymede will close applications by making a post where Ganymede will announce the contest participants, in-character, and begin the race. She will tag all accepted characters, and delete posts of disqualified characters! Then, the horse racing will begin! 3 obstacle rounds, 1 final round of racing to the finish. Each round has a difficulty check, and dice rolls solely determine if you make the obstacle or not. If you do not make the difficulty check, you are still in the race, but will take a stacking -5 to your rolls for each difficulty check failed.
4.) OBSTACLE ONE: DIFFICULTY CHECK 6 OR HIGHER! If accepted, you will have 24 hours to make an in-character post of riding down your lane, toward your first obstacle. It does not matter who posts first. End your post by rolling 1d20 ( do not go back and edit your post). 5.) After 24 hours, Ganymede will end Obstacle One, listing the scores and penalties of the players. Characters who do not post within the time frame of each obstacle will get a -5 penalty per obstacle on their future rolls.
6.) OBSTACLE TWO: DIFFICULTY CHECK 8 OR HIGHER! Same as Obstacle One. 7.) After 24 hours, Ganymede will end Obstacle Two, listing the scores and penalties of the players. 8.) OBSTACLE THREE: DIFFICULTY CHECK 10 OR HIGHER! Same as Obstacle One and Two. 9.) After 24 hours, Ganymede will end Obstacle Three, and list the scores and penalties of the players. 10.) FINAL STRETCH! Players will have 24 hours to make an in-character post of riding down your lane in that final stretch to the finish line. It does not matter who posts first. End your post by rolling 1d20, include your penalties if applicable ( do not go back and edit your post). 11.) After 24 hours, Ganymede will end the race, and announce the winner. The player with the highest roll on the die of the Final Stretch wins the race. IRL Time Line: Gany opens contest > 24 hours for characters to apply > Gany begins Obstacle 1 > 24 hours for characters to post to Obstacle 1 > Gany posts results, begins Obstacle 2 > 24 hours for characters to post to Obstacle 2 > Gany posts results, begins Obstacle 3 > 24 hours for characters to post to Obstacle 3 > Gany posts results, begins the Final Stretch > 24 hours for characters to post to the Finish Line > Gany closes competition and announces winner. IRL Total Time: 120~ hours (5 IRL Days)
_____________________________________________________________
All players participating are reminded that this contest will be only an hour, at most, in-character, and to keep their posts in-character. The portion above is just to explain how things will work. Everything beneath this post should be IC!

Lady Cassandra Winter stood about, holding the spoils of victory for whoever won the Horse-racing contest. She rather hoped it was some dashing young man, but such luck was rarely in her favor. She knew she was a tad early to be observing the contest, but a moment of peace and quiet was nice to have and such a gorgeous spring day. The dress she wore was a pale yellow, with red lace up the front and back, and a tad shorter than was strictly proper, and a tad revealing, but the mood had been infectious, and such things were expected at festivals such as these.

Horses were gathered and groomed, and when the crowds saw that there was activity at the racing track, they fled over and filled the stands, leaning on the fences that surrounded the track, watched as men set out the obstacles that the horses were going to have to jump over. Many of them looked at the horse flesh, betting just on the looks and the hides of the horses alone on which one might win. Then, the Duchess of Diversion, the Princess of Parties, the Muse of Merry-Making herself, an addictive nymph who had been pleasing Isra all week long appeared, and just the sight of her caused an instantaneous spike of joy among these crowds that had now been trained and taught that to see Ganymede Galaii was to know that entertainments were to come. She was dressed in another sheer gown, a cape on this one, accents of gold making her glitter and sparkle as she moved, and lights whirled from all around her, visible even in the light of day. A coronet crowned her features, her skin flawless, her dark eyes flirtatious and her red, red lips speaking as she announced, " The Horse Racing Obstacle is now open! Who will challenge? Win a chest of 100 gold coins, and a piece of jewelry made by the lovely, lovely, lovely @cassandra winter . " She gestured to the fair maiden, who received a fair share of cat calls and whistles and cries out to her. It made the nymph smirk a little. " And perhaps a kiss from me?" Another laughter, as the crowd had become quite used to watching Ganymede kiss the victors of her contests, male, female, or other. __________________________________ The Competition is open and seeking applicants! King of Prospernalia
Roleplay posts: 235
Physical Description: Tall and lean, with his dark, unkempt hair and dark blue eyes, Raul cuts a striking figure. He has strong, broad shoulders and long limbs, obviously accustomed to hard work.
Clothes and Equipment: He typically wears rough, sturdy clothing, stained with dust from the road, and several days' worth of stubble. Despite this, his equipment is immaculately maintained, the mark of a man that lives and dies by his tools. His primary weapon seems to be a large recurved bow, a composite of horn and wood so powerful that it requires extraordinary strength to string, or even pull. He also carries several harpoons, perhaps for hunting large game. His heavy, scaled armor is woven with protective wards.

Raoul thumped the beast affectionately on the flank as he checked his tack and harness. He had been through much with this horse, and they had formed a sort of bond over the years. She didn’t seem like much compared to the long-legged, high-spirited racers she would likely be running against today, but she had proven time again that she had the right mix of speed, endurance, and agility to prevail when the chips were down.
This time, there was nothing riding on it but the prize. No horrible monster to chase or be chased by, no claws or fangs or spikes to dodge. Raoul couldn’t blame her if she didn’t run like there was a dragon on her heels today, but he was reasonably confident in making a good showing. He secretly hoped that divesting armor and weapons and gear would throw her off her game, but shrugged it off and vaulted into the saddle.
The King of Prospernalia gave a wave to the crowd as he rode up to his place on the starting line, handing his crown down to one of the grooms before the race began.

Alryca rode up on her horse, a mottled white mare with grey and black coloring along the flanks. The horse had been a gift from her father, and she was perfectly attentive to it until she noticed the King of Prospernalia beside her, which promptly caused her to fumble her notepad and quill, saving the motion by stuffing them into the saddle's pocket next to her leg. She grinned and flipped her hair back, glancing furtively at the man next to her.

It might have been a surprise to see her. She was still half-surprised at herself. But Genevieve St. James had decided to enter the horse race. She had seen the obstacle while she had been walking about the fair, and it had reminded her of the days when she'd been younger. She had horseflesh in Aozora, of course. It was something that she found she could... commit to... now that... well, now that... Hm. The enchantress still couldn't bear to think of who she was missing in her life, and instead decided to focus on what mattered. She was dressed handsomely -- she was always dressed handsomely -- in trousers for the first time in a long time. She wore a long, elegant jacket that was split up the back and not-present at her front, held together by a broad belt around the tiny-ness of her waist. A silk shirt with billowing sleeves clasped with dainty pearl buttons at her wrists slid over her arms, and warm, kid gloves were around her hands as she held the reins of her expensive cream-colored palfrey. Her golden hair was swept up into a bun, away from her face and her back as it usually was, and she she had to clear her throat a bit to enter her name into the contest. Blushing a little, but refusing to hide her face, the adult woman made her way down the line and elegantly made into her saddle. Mounted, she looked like she was ready to pose for some portrait, her composure perfect, her elegance obvious, her posture pristine. It was out of character for her to even be there, but the Prospernalia, the joy she felt here... it made her feel almost happy and with the festival soon drawing to a close, she didn't want to miss out on something she might regret.

The stern-faced elf found the Prospernalia festival to be diverting, at best. Even she couldn't help but enjoy the merry atmosphere, although she was not prone to smiling, or even laughing. She had already entered the Archery contest, and given her mastery of animal handling, figured that she might try the horse racing as well.
Eilagwen was familiar with riding, but it was usually upon the taller, sleeker silver elk. Varian, she was sure, would have quickly outpaced the horses, but obviously, he was not allowed to be entered. Luckily, it seemed that the race would supply the horses.
She entered her name, and then the willowy elf went in to choose a horse to ride. They were smaller creatures, wider, more muscled. Eilagwen had no doubts that she'd be able to ride one and put them over the obstacles were she in a dire situation, but as what happens with most casual circumstances, she may not perform to stride.
Ah, well, it would be all in good fun anyway. She chose a bay gelding and mounted it with ease, turning the horse toward the starting line and taking her place beside a noblewoman.

Prospernalia's End Feast is Open! The Feast is higher-class than the rest of the casual atmosphere of the festival. Characters will be expected to show up, dressed to impress. There is no schedule, but instead a free-for-all for characters to attend and romance and eat and interact as they will. Specific characters have been invited, and have been appropriately tagged, but that does not mean that they are in attendance until they officially post in.
Please keep in mind that this is the last event of the Prospernalia, so all contests and games will have been done and finished by now!
Back to the regularly scheduled contest and roleplay.

Post by Badger on May 1, 2017 6:09:52 GMT -8
Badger, mounted on what conceivably might be his four-legged ticket to a chest full of gold and very expensive jewelry, rode onto the race track to the stares and laughter of just about everyone who was already seated. With a glance in his direction, anyone wondering what the spectacle may have been (before the race had even started), would see that the rather diminutive gnome was perched on an equally diminutive baby donkey.
Badger had indeed tried to enter the contest on a regular human sized mount, but his feet didn't even begin to hang down passed the saddle on the great beast's back! He could no more control a horse from its back than a human could be expected to control a whale from its dorsal fin. With no concessions made for participants his size, Badger had to improvise. Small riders required small mounts, and this little guy was perfect for Badger. He sat happily upon his steed, the gnome's chest puffed out as he made a slow loop in front of the spectators. He rode bareback, as there was of course no saddles tiny enough for the donkey. The only thing that made Badger able to control the long eared, furry four-legged ball of fluff was that he'd, with some convincing and no small amount of discussion with his mount, managed to get a bit in the donkey's mouth which he was able to connect up some reigns to.
Of course, Badger himself was also dressed the part. The gnome wore a strange looking open-faced helmet that seemed more suited for a pikeman in the great battles of yore, and was of course just a bit too big for his head. Badger pulled a wooden sword (one of the ones given out as prizes at the festival) from his belt, and held it above his head in his right hand.
He began to bellow words loudly, in a much lower register than was his normal speaking voice, waving the sword around.
"The returning hero! Sat upon his mighty and noble steed! Conqueror of the enemies of good and justice, and punisher of smelly bandits that burned up all my gear! Makes a turn and graciously receives the applause of the adoring public!" he narrated his own movements loudly, looking out over the crowd, ostensibly lost in his own fantasy of being a hero returning from a great battle.
Some of the spectators laughed, some jeered, some patronizingly clapped for Badger; but no matter what their reaction, Badger was enjoying his little fantasy, and the antics that went along with it.

The crowds roared with laughter at the sight of Badger , and with a veeeeeeeeeery suggestive wink from the delicious Ganymede Galaii, she tipped her head toward the line and allowed him to participate in the race. Open, and bold favoritism -- that no one seemed to mind. He looked utterly ridiculous, all of the pristine horseflesh down the road until the little baby donkey at the end hee-haw'd at the noise level of the crowd. Bets were placed as Ganymede took to a spot on a high dais where she'd be able to see the entire obstacle course. Raoul Ferdinand , the King of Prospernalia, Alryca Starwell , a new face, Kaine Aislinn, a crowd favorite given how many contests he attended, @eilagwen , known but not celebrated given her solemn demeanor, Lady Genevieve St. James , a woman who received a few whistles, her face known in Isra... and finally Badger were at the line. " Riders!" Ganymede called to them. " Badger~" she all but purred with a wink, causing a ripple of laughter in the crowd. " Hold onto your horses--" It was a terrible pun, and even Ganymede had to cut herself off to laugh at how stupid it was. And then she clapped her hands together to go, sparks flying from her fingertips and filling the sky for a moment. " Go!" ____________________________________________ No more applications. Riders are urged to reacquaint themselves with the rules. You have until 2pm PST Tuesday May 2nd 2017 to post going through the obstacle.

Her palfrey danced beneath her, hooves beating on the hard-packed ground, it seemed, in time with the flutter of butterfly wings. She smiled at those in the crowd that recognized her, but her gaze seemed to search for a face she might know... Then she shook her head.
Genevieve paid attention to Ganymede, her hands loosely gripping the reins, her thighs clenching a little tighter as she leaned forward... and then kicked her palfrey into exploding from the line. The creature's svelte body rumbled forward, the golden enchantress leaning over -- not only to hold on, but to help usher the horse forward and to the first tall obstacle.
Fear gripped her -- but so did excitement. She held her breath as it came forward, and felt the powerful muscles of her palfrey wind up, and release as it went for the obstacle!

She murmured quietly to the horse as the other contestants made their places at the line, then sat up in her saddle, looking at the others. Mostly, she looked at Badger, and frowned. A joke? Why? She didn't understand, but shook her head. Her focus should be on the race.
And when the burst went off, so, too did Eilagwen on her horse, barreling for the first obstacle.

At the signal, Raoul touched his spurs to the horse’s flank. He didn’t need to dig them in like some riders might do, using pain and fright to urge their steeds on. The horse knew what the touch and the jingling sound meant and leapt off the line like a shot.
Raoul leaned far over the beast’s neck, reins held loosely in one hand. He steered with his legs, the shifting pressure of Raoul’s inner thighs the only signal the horse was used to anyway. He lightly kicked again, urging his horse on towards the first obstacle with a shout of encouragement.

Badger used the tip of his wooden sword to push his helmet up on his head so he could exchange amorous glances with Ganymede Galaii. It was, perhaps, not entirely in line with the stated rules of the competition for a participant to not be riding a horse, but no one would consider riding a tiny donkey an unfair advantage - and certainly no one would go against Ganymede’s ruling on the matter. The pair seemed to be getting along very well, and Badger gave an animated bow to the Mistress of the Prospernalia Festival as he and his ‘mighty steed’ passed by her on their way to the starting line.
At Ganymede’s command, the horse racing track was filled with the thunderous pounding of metal-shoed hooves.. and one donkey foal. High-pitched shrieks of laughter escaped Badger as he lurched forward on his mount, giving a showy little twirl of his wooden sword. He expected to be darting in and out between horses, dodging feet and hooves as his small but quick and capable equestrian friend leapt forward into the race.

Alryca also did not use spurs to...spur on her horse, instead following a simple set of commands taught to the horse from a young age, which, when combined with pressure from her feet, set the horse off at a gallop, her hair flying behind her as the horse took off...

Physical Description: She takes a humanoid appearance, with long hair, nails, and eyes that changes colors depending on the mood she's in (usually found in some sort of periwinkle, lilac hue, tho). She usually takes a lush, hourglass-shaped feminine form.
Clothes and Equipment: Ganymede is always dressed in daring and bold fashion choices -- if she's in a good mood. If she's in a bad mood, she'll usually be clothed in dark and somber colors. She dresses according to the way she feels -- or according to the theme of her latest party.

The horses were off! And theeeeen.... they were not. The first obstacle was a pit filled with hoses to represent snakes, and as many of the riders took toward the obstacle, only one managed to jump it and clear it with absolutely no hesitation -- Kaine Aislinn. All the rest, however, found their horses coming up short, including little Badger, who's donkey managed to actually catch up with the rest of the horses who shook their heads and danced their hooves as if to say-- Snek? No, no, -- no snek. When it became obvious that the snakes were not moving, however, the horses wisened up, and it would be an easy thing for the riders to back their horses and send them spurring forward to leap over the pit and onward to the next obstacle. Still, though. The sudden stop of all the horses had people just about peeing their pants with laughter in the stands, including Ganymede who couldn't seem to stop laughing. Especially at the expressions on those of the riders! The soft swells of her breasts were bouncing a little with her laughter as she leaned back in her seat and tried to calm her breathing. @eilagwen, Lady Genevieve St. James, Raoul Ferdinand, and Alryca Starwell would have to catch up to Kaine, otherwise all would be lost!

She gasped when her palfrey -- Cosette -- immediately seemed to stiffen and refuse to jump, almost throwing the enchantress from her saddle. She kept herself on, however, a strand of her blonde hair falling from the elegant twist she had upon it.
"Oh! Cosette!" She looked down at the obstacle with more attention than just the simple pit she thought it was, and saw that inside there were snakes. Alarm! And then she realized -- they were not snakes, but some sort of tube to appear as such. "Cosette, Cosette, they are nothing," she murmured to her horse and backed the palfrey up.
She wasn't even paying attention to the other horses that were around, and the other riders who also didn't make it. Instead, she was all too aware of another rider who had easily leaped over the obstacle! She not only needed to catch up, but she saw that there was a second obstacle to hurtle over.
Rushing Cosette forward, the pretty palfrey made the leap and began to rush her way down the line, dirt flying up around her hooves as Genevieve made for the second obstacle!

Raoul Ferdinand
Dedicated

Trained and trusted to avoid trouble while Raoul’s focus was on other things than the ground, the horse balked at the first obstacle. “Damn! No, just… gah! Go! Go!” Raoul cursed and tugged the reins, pointing the beast towards the pretend snake-filled obstacle and tapped his spurs to its flank again. It took a moment, but soon enough it got the idea and jumped.
He had lost time, but so had most of the others. Not so bad. With luck, maybe not enough to keep him out of the running. He leaned down over his horse’s neck again, shouting encouragement as he gave her free rein again, trying to catch up before his chances were completely shot.
