The stoic warlord acknowledged the lordling's bow with one of his own as was deserving of Kojuro's station. However, his eyes remained afixed on the arrival of two others: Kiara and Tika Seya. The samurai, wearing lacquered red armor with white lacing, remained calm all the while his men seemed anxious and ready for what was yet to come. With the horses saddled, the guardsmen in formation, and the baggage train thoroughly packed, it would seem Masahiro was ready to depart at a moment's notice.
"We await the presence of the Ladies Kiara and Tika, young master. With their arrival we will make way," he assured the man. With a resolute nod he gestured to a saddled helding awaiting a rider, held with the reins of a stable boy. "Mount your horse. I will not linger once they arrive."

Soft footfalls heralded the arrival of Tika, who moved quickly into the garden with the haste of someone who had been late. Preparing for her role as a sempai at the Hizashi official dojo, she had briefly lost track of time, though fortunately only a few minutes late. Adding to the wait, she made sure to find Kiara along the way, so that she would not forget or be late. "I am here, Masahiro-san.." she said, stifling her breaths, which threatened to reveal she had been in a hurry. From here, she bowed very deeply, knowing this man to be ranked far, far above herself...

Kiara was in the garden, and knew she had been summoned. She was just walking out when Tika showed up. Together, they arrived before Masahiro. Kiara bowed deeply when Tika did, and at a greater depth as the others had expected of her.

Kojuro observed that the scene was set for a quick departure. At Hosokawa's words he glanced over to his horse prepared to leave, the reins in the hand of a Hizashi stable boy he knew well. But after that quick glance his eyes were back on Hosokawa-dono, and stood without moving from in front of him. "Where are we going?" he asked, straight to the point, "and to what purpose?" If this was a bandit quelling mission, Tika's presence as a swordswoman was understandable, but why bring the ten year old Kiara along? The woman and the girl in question arrived and made their presence known to Masahiro, but Kojuro waited for an answer before he sprung into action.

Once Tika and Kiara had arrived Masahiro did not wait long to mount his horse. He returned their bows as was customary but did so with little fanfare as was expected of his station. Once their lord had mounted so did his attachment of men and other retainers who were riding a horse. Otherwise, the rest of his company were on foot and prepared to follow behind him in a long baggage train of ox carts, porters, and other attendants. From his saddle he looked to the demanding nephew of Lord Hizashi whom he regarded with a quiet glance of appraisal.
"We are going to exercise the will of my liege, Kojuro-san. That is all you need to know for now but it is by his leave you three will be accompanying me during this journey. Now mount your horse for we ride immediately."
The Lord Hosokawa did not wait for the young man to mount as he took his riding crop in hand and the reins in another and immediately took off. Like rolling thunder one hundred riders and the baggage train lurched forward as their lord took the lead. The ladies would be immediately flanked by four of his men, as would Kojuro once he was under way. Slowly the banner lord and his men would depart the estate and begin their travels along the road to destinations that only Lord Hosokawa knew of.

Once Hosokawa had answered him, he immediately mounted his horse and thanked the stable boy, before taking the reins. He wrapped the reins around his left hand and set off. The momentary delay was made up almost instantly, he was a fast rider on a good horse. Hosokawa's answer telling him he had no need to know was satisfactory enough, at least it was an answer, if not a particularly revealing one. He would find out eventually, he told himself, better just to observe and take the opportunity to learn about how Hosokawa led the mission, and not do anything out of the ordinary unless asked to… although naturally he was still burning with ferocious curiosity. He should just try not to think about it too much. He glanced across at Tika and Kiara, also flanked by guardsmen to see how they were holding up on the ride. He couldn't think that Kiara would have much experience on horseback although maybe Tika would. If either of them looked his way he would flash them a smile and wave. Aside from that there wasn't much chance to talk. After a while, Kojuro turned to the guard on his left, and asked conversationally, "So, how long have you been working for Hosokawa-dono, then?"

Within half a day of arriving at the bay, Wuppo and Rena Kesarus were within throwing distance of the Hizashi Mansion. The pair crossed the last bit of countryside before Wuppo expected to see the palatial manor raising over the next hill before he suddenly stopped. Within moments, Rena would be able to see why - a huge column of riders, wagons, and others on foot was headed towards them. Wuppo hadn't seen this before. He'd never seen the humans in such number prepared for war. Armor, weapons, mounted riders, and supplies bringing up the rear. Wuppo looked ahead, and squinted. He looked at Rena and then back at the column filing by, obviously trying to filter through what he was seeing. After a moment, he broke his silence. "OTTA!" the ogre yelled. "Das Otta! Him'z wot got da dragonbug on him hewmet! I'z know dat hewmet! Is da dragonbug!" the ogres already horrible language skills appeared to stretch into non-existence when the giant was excited. "OTTA!" the (only slightly) dimwitted ogre called out again as he started into a hard trot, his heavy feet pounding against the solid ground as he ran. He gave exactly no mind to the heavily armed and armored small army that his friend seemed to now be a part of. Wuppo, by sheer virtue of being 10 feet tall, made it to his friend, Kojuro Hizashi, in no time. Kojuro, even on his horse, did not make it to eye level with the giant. Wuppo grabbed his friend up in his arms, letting out a booming laugh as he pulled Kojuro off of his horse in a hug. "HUH-HUH-HUH!! OTTA!" Along with language skills, the ogre had apparently never acquired the quiet reserve that was so commonly thought to be good basic etiquette in most of Tawakoshi. He also apparently lacked the forethought of how it might look to a line of armed riders to have an ogre running into the column waving and yelling someone's name.

Probably like most people in the column, Kojuro heard yelling and felt the ground thumping up and down in time to huge footfalls. He turned and saw with surprise and delight the oni, Wuppo, come bounding up towards the moving army. The guards around him didn't seem excited in quite the same way. More than a few stunned exclamations and grunts came from the soldiers and the guards nearest to him began to level spears or ready bows towards the ogre. "Down your weapons!" he ordered in a low and commanding voice to the men nearest to him. There wasn't time for anything more though as before he knew it, he had been swept up in a huge bear hug by the oni and crushed against the massive chest. He laughed too, pleased to see his old friend returned, albeit that the timing was a bit off.
"Wuppo! It's been a while!" he greeted the oni in a friendly way as his helmet was knocked askew and his armour saved him from being affectionately crushed by Wuppo's enthusiastic embrace. Indeed, it had been at least five years since Wuppo had left Tawakoshi to go across the sea leaving his cave empty. Long enough that it almost felt as though Kojuro had imagined the whole thing. He felt a jerk on his left hand and realised he was still attached to the horse's reins, the horse skipping about a little in confusion at suddenly losing its rider. Kojuro managed to free his arm and untangle the reins from his left hand with his right as he called down, "Don't be alarmed! He's a friend!" He adjusted his helmet straight as he looked Wuppo in the eye and said "Welcome back, old friend," apparently unconcerned about being dangled ten feet above the ground by a massive ogre.

Rena had stayed behind when the ogre had first made his way down the hill to the huge train of people. She had seen their armor, seen their swords. She had been afraid that their arrival might not be interpreted as friendly after all, so she had stayed behind watching what would happen. Fearing that the ogre would get himself killed and the bag lost to her forever.
Once she saw that the situation was under control she got more confident to go there too, she had to stay with the damn ogre after all. She galloped fast down the hill, her strong legs having no problem to gather speed. She trampled up some ground and grass as she was doing so. When she got closer to the column she would slow down to a walk as to not threaten the riders or the horses and put her hands slightly in the air. That way they would now she wasn't reaching for the huge axe that was hung from her belt. "I am with the ogre," she said to them hoping they would let her pass through.
If they, in fact, did let her through she would walk up to Kojuro, which was still being hugged by Wuppo. "So this is the great Otta," she said a bit sarcastically. She had expected an older man that looked wise and into magic. This was just a boy who seemed as lost in her armor as a fish might be on the land. She was surpised he had enough influence to not make everyone attack Wuppo. "Wuppo told me plenty about you."

The banner lord pulled hard on the reins of his horse and came to a halt, bringing the entire entourage to a stop behind him as the ogre bounded towards their ranks. With a snap Masahiro produced a large signaling fan and immediately the ranks of the Hosokawa began to ready their bows and spears. It was only by the grace of Kojuro's recognition that one hundred men did not loose arrow and spear into the monster. With quiet appraisal the samurai watched the exchange as Wuppo and Rena were unmolested amidst their reunion. Masahiro wrapped his left hand around the reins of his horse and maneuvered it towards Kojuro. His face was impassive, like a stone monument in its stoic indifference, as he regarded the spectacle. As his eyes looked between Wuppo and Kojuro, and then finally Rena, he leveled his war fan at Kojuro.
"You'd best explain yourself quickly, young master."
It could be seen that his men were still at the ready, uncertain of the ogre who posed a threat to their lord and retinue. While arrows were not aimed, skilled archers would not take long to raise their weapons and fire. Masahiro tread the dagger's edge as he carefully kept out of the assumed long reach of the creature yet dared to be ready to steal the initiative of combat. A samurai always lived three feet from death and no one knew this like a veteran such as Masahiro.

Wuppo, with very few exceptions, had spent nearly every interaction he'd ever had with humans while they'd had bows, spears, swords, and every other conceivable weapon - sharp and blunt - leveled at him. It was only after Wuppo had placed Kojuro back on to his horse that he looked to see the stern-faced Masahiro, menacing him with a.. fan?
"HAAAHHH HUH-HUH-HUH-HUH!!" the ogre's low, loud, booming, guffaw sounded out again, and then slowly turned to a gravely chortle at Masahiro's demand for answers at the point of a fan. Wuppo obviously knew very little of human culture, but surely, he surmised, they didn't arm even their least capable warriors with the same implements the ogre had observed the daintiest of human females carrying on hot days. There was no way Tawakoshi had changed that much in his absence.
Wuppo looked at Rena as he gave Kojuro a sturdy pat on the back with his giant hand.
"Dish Otta! Him hewp us wiff me bag!" the ogre said, having to wipe a tear away as he tried to control himself long enough to form words. If he hadn't been rendered helpless with mirth, the slow-witted ogre might have found room to appear proud of himself for finally finding Kojuro; the answer to the pair's riddle, and the ogre's only friend.
"Wise Otta! Friend to Wuppo! Is been too long since we has da tea! Horselady and Wuppo come back from across da big water, to finds Wise Otta, and here you'z are!" the ogre turned and pointed to the hill he and Rena had just come over. "I look down from up dere! I says 'Das dragonbug!', I'z know dat dragonbug. Otta under dat dragonbug!"
The ogre appeared to be giving a rambling play-by-play recounting of the activity that Kojuro had most likely just witnessed with his own eyes; Wuppo identifying Kojuro by the ornamental dragonfly on his helmet, which was its intended purpose to begin with. If Wuppo recognized the potential danger of the remaining members of the army prepared to strike him down, he didn't let it show - and Wuppo was a terrible actor.

When Masahiro came up to meet then Rena had the slight courtesy to step aside for him. Great, another stranded fish in ridiculous armor. She decided it was better to just let them talk for now.
At least that was until she was called horselady again. She didn't hesitate to plant her hooves in the ogres belly. The only reason he did not fall over was because of him being the giant he was. "My name is Rena! Get it right!" She shouted at the ogre. Then turned back to 'Otta' " I am called Rena." She said, much quieted and reformed this time. Her hand once again sitting on her hip from her annoyance.
She was obviously feeling more at ease noe nobody had tried to kill her.

Tika quietly observed, as there was not much she was able to do from the back of the mare she had been given to ride, with Kiara riding with her. Yet one noticeable change was that she now had a wakizashi by her katana, symbolizing her coming of age and her warrior status. While untested on the battlefield and the odds of a losing fight slim at best, she hoped she would not appear too useless in being able to defend the camp or noncombatants like Kiara. She was somewhat startled by the arrival of Wuppo and Rena, but said nothing of the proceedings, figuring they'd work themselves out on their own. They seemed to be friends of Kojuro... and of species she had never seen before.

And because of that, she made sure to look dignified on the horse even though she had never ridden one before, and didnt slouch. Then the strange other two arrived...and she couldnt take her eyes off them.

Kojuro couldn't exactly see Rena very well from where he was smushed against Wuppo's ample frame, but just about got in a quick greeting, before Hosokawa Masahiro galloped up to them. He did not seem pleased, but it was hard to tell from the impression of stoic indifference that he liked to maintain even in the face of a ten foot tall oni, and … whatever Wuppo's lady friend was. He was placed back down on his horse, and patted the animals' neck reassuringly as she still seemed a little skittish in the presence of the strange creatures. From there he managed a better look at the "Horselady". At a casual glance from far away you might make the mistake of thinking the unusual form was a woman riding a horse, from close up there was no error … she was a woman from the waist up and a horse from the waist down, as well as having two oni-like horns on her head. He had the good grace not to stare, although he had never seen or heard of anything like her. The woman part of her looked foreign, so she must have been from one of the many strange nations that lay beyond the seas of Tawakoshi. Still she was a friend of Wuppo's and Wuppo wasn't exactly average either.
At Hosokawa's demand, Kojuro turned straight the bannerman and looked him directly eye to eye. He was sat up to his full height and completely serious as he answered Hosokawa. His voice was not particularly loud but seemed to carry in it's intensity. "This a Kiyonai Mountain Oni - a rare creature and possibly one of the last of his kind, who as such is under the sworn protection of the Hizashi clan. If he should come to any harm," he looked over those soldiers still with their weapons at the ready, before returning his gaze to Hosokawa. "Those responsible will answer to Hizashi clan justice, and to me personally." He didn't enjoy having to throw his weight around as a member of the ruling clan, but on occasion it had to be done.
At Wuppo began laughing at Hosokawa, Kojuro held out a hand that he hoped would signal the ogre to be quiet, as well as shooting him a warning glance briefly. Despite being told not to harm the creature, someone like Hosokawa wasn't going to take being laughed at lightly. "As to why he's here and why now," Kojuro continued to Masahiro, "I do not know. Although he wouldn't approach humans casually so I imagine it's something important. Wuppo, this is Lord Hosokawa Masahiro, bannerman to Lord Genji. For the duration of this mission I am under his command," Not that there was much point exchanging names, Wuppo wasn't going to remember it, and Masahiro probably didn't need to know the name of the Oni, he was plenty distinctive anyway. "Hosokawa-dono, this is Wuppo, an Ogre."
Kojuro seemed to be taking Wuppo's explanation of what he wanted seriously, although it wasn't easy to interpret his meaning about the bag and suchlike. Talking to Wuppo did involve a certain amount of translation even though they were talking the same language. "Yes, I'm here," he smiled as Wuppo talked of how he identified him by his helmet crest, "Of course we'll have tea, and if I can help you, I will. At the moment though," he added, "I must defer to the commands of Hosokawa-dono, and I believe we may be in some kind of a hurry…" He looked to Masahiro as if to confirm, but half expecting him not to give any kind of useful answer.
Kojuro laughed as the "Horselady" introduced herself as Rena. "My name is Hizashi Kojuro. Not 'Otter' although try getting Wuppo to remember it. I wouldn't take it personally… Anyway, pleased to meet you, Rena-san. You can expect to be treated courteously as a friend of Wuppo."

The samurai regarded the ogre with a look of veiled menace as he was openly mocked by the demon. If it had not been for the boy's announcement that the creature was under his protection and that of the Hizashi, he would have drawn his sword and ordered one hundred men to fell the beast. However, he decided against drawing the ire of Kojuro - even if he questioned the accuracy of his words. Nonetheless, he stayed his hand and lowered the fan as he let out a small huff. It was only at that moment that he had regarded Rena is more than a rider out of his mind of processing an order of precedence to the threats at hand.
"Such queer sights on such an auspicious day," the banner lord remarked aloud as he looked between Rena and Wuppo. The horse-lady and the ogre received many strange looks from the men who were confused. They seemed uneasy parlaying for foreign creatures and demons outside of the Hizashi Clan estate. As his men-at-arms lowered their arrows and spears, Masahiro removed his mempo to reveal the face of a veteran warrior in his 30s, his expression stern.
"We have no time for games, young master. Your 'friends' may trail our company, behind the baggage train, with an escort of my men. When we make camp I will indulge this nonsense and get to the bottom of this. I have questions but if by your word they are no threat, then I will not move to see them summarily executed. However-" He paused as he looked Kojuro in the eyes - he did not need to sit straight up in the saddle or put on a facade of seriousness; Hosokawa Gentarou Masahiro was a very serious man by default. "-If these two make any threatening moves, I will have their heads and your uncle will see my actions as just.
"Are we clear, young master?"

Physical Description: "The citizens of Tamatoshi Bay would lay eyes on Wuppo, a 10-foot tall ogre, dirty with grime and what was probably dried blood. The giant's black beard was messily braided and twisted into two strands that hung from his chin, and the hair atop his head tied into a somewhat familiar but not entirely correct topknot."

If Wuppo had thought about it, which he obviously hadn't, the ogre might have objected to hearing that he was part of some protected species to be preserved from harm. At times, it was easy to forget that the simple-minded Wuppo had gone the bulk of his life feeding and providing for himself on the mountain he called home, and the woodlands surrounding it. How long he'd been there was anyone's guess, but he seemed to be doing fine until a group of superstitious villagers set about trying to kill him for something he didn't fully understand. This is where Kojuro had happened upon the ogre, and in declaring that the beast was under the protection of the Hizashi clan, had saved his life and home - and likely the lives of no small number of villagers.
"Ace.. Aspish.." Wuppo tried to form the words Masahiro had, apparently, used to describe his and Rena's appearance. Wuppo looked at Kojuro, obviously unsure as to what all of the words being bandied about meant, but had enough understanding to have input on the matter.
"You'z wear da armors, an' dems wear da armors, an' dems carry da pointy bits - dat means you'z go fight!" Wuppo said, following a string of logic probably evident to everyone around him. "If Otta fight, Wuppo fight wiff da Otta! I'z GOOD at da fightin', an' I'z do best at protectin' da Otta, like you'z protect Wuppo. Wuppo help! You see!"
Wuppo turned his attention to Masahiro, and pointed at him.
"You'z! Wuppo get you stick from tree! You'z use stick for hittin'! Not fan!" the ogre barked, obviously well-meaning, but completely devoid of any recognition of Masahiro's high station, or that he intended to walk behind the caravan away from Kojuro.
Wuppo was crude, dirty, loud, adhered to very few human social standards, and was mercifully spared the ravages of intelligence - but there was a quaint type of honesty in the ogre. If he said he intended to fight to protect his only friend, Masahiro would need half the horses under his command to pull the ogre away.
He turned his attention toward Rena.
"We'z go wiff Otta. We'z help him fight, an' den him helps us wiff me bag. If Otta fight, Wuppo fight too." he confirmed again to his foreign counterpart his intention to go with Kojuro.

Kojuro wasn't someone who resorted to anger easily, and he certainly did his best not to act upon those feelings when he did have them, but there was definitely a coldness in his eyes as he spoke to Hosokawa. Certain things he would accept, but there was a limit to how much he was prepared to accept from Hosokawa's condescending attitude. It was a mistake on his part to assume an easy-going temperament was the same as frivolity, and that politeness was equal to submission.
"Hosokawa-dono, I am yours to command as far as this mission is concerned, but in all other matters you defer to me. If you continue to talk to me as though I am a child, it will cause a disharmony between us that may well compromise the success of this mission. Please try to put away your personal feelings and act as befits your station." He did not speak loudly, so as to save Hosokawa's face in front of his men, but the two were close enough that Hosokawa could hear him clearly.
His dismissal of the ogre and his companion served to annoy Kojuro still further, since he seemed to treat them less like sentient beings and more like animals. "There is no 'nonsense' here, only the lack of understanding on the part of the beholder. I will forgive your rudeness to our honoured guests on this one occasion as I believe you have acted out of ignorance of the situation and shock at their sudden appearance, however you would do well to treat them with respect. I repeat - they are under my protection and I will give my life before I see them harmed," he seemed to be deadly serious as his eyes narrowed barely perceptibly as he continued to glare coldly at Hosokawa. This was a matter of honour and Hosokawa's casual dismissal was insulting to all of them, including himself. "It's hardly your place as a vassal, to assume Lord Genji's reaction. I'm sure he will have his own opinions on the matter."
He started his horse moving forwards again, since apparently time was of the essence. "Wuppo and Rena-san, you may act in whatever way you see fit as long as it doesn't interfere with Hosokawa-dono's objectives. If you wish to fight, your assistance is gladly accepted. Thank you," he said with a small bow towards the both of non-humans. "However, you'd probably best not give Hosokawa-dono any presents, I think he has enough sticks to be getting on with, most of them very pointy." He gave a sly grin to Wuppo out of Hosokawa's eyeshot. "We'll see about this bag later then? Although if you can tell me more about it I can have a think about what to do," here he looked at Rena, since she seemed to have more ease at communicating complex subjects than Wuppo did.

Well that sure was awkward. Even though the politeness of their conversation had been very high for Rena's standards, she knew this had been a heated conversation in their own way and the way. She wasn't at all sure why, but apparently, the Otter had a high rank among his men that outweighed that of the commander in charge. Maybe he was the tribe leader?
All the while she had just opted to stay quiet with her arms crossed. Only after they started to get on the way again she stepped lightly next to Kojuro's horse. His animal seemed to be a little nervous around her, but soon calmed down once they were moving. "Thank you for the defence Kojuro, it seems Wuppo hasn't got me killed just yet. Also my name is Rena! Not Renasan." she said with an irritated smile before opting to talk about the bag. The frustration Wuppo had brought by calling her horselady made it that she was not gonna let this one change her name too. "Wuppo has a bag that seems to be an endless pit. Anything he puts in there disappears. A very important trinket if mine ended up in that very bag and Wuppo does not know how to take it out." she waited a moment before turning her head towards him. "It is very important I get it back, if not I can't return to my tribe and I will be left to wander these lands alone." the look on her face was filled with determination.

They rode on for a little way, putting a bit more distance between themselves and the mansion, with Rena trotting beside Kojuro. “-San is just what we in Tawakoshi add to a person's name as a sign of respect,” he explained, as Rena seemed a little annoyed. “I meant no offence by it, Rena,” he inclined his head a little by way of apology, even though addressing her without honorific seemed far too over-familiar for him. Nevertheless he wanted to show respect for her customs, even though they were different to his. What kind of strange land did she come from, he wondered. Rena explained about Wuppo's bag, and far more clearly than Wuppo had earlier. A bottomless bag that made items disappear? His eyes seemed to light up with curiosity as she spoke to him. “That does sound important,” he agreed. He and Nakatani had spoken at length about the importance of one's homeland and the special connection everyone felt to the place they were born. To wander about and never be able to return, to always be a stranger, it seemed like a particularly unpleasant fate to him. Thankfully Nakatani had found her way to a new home in Tawakoshi, but Rena would no doubt find that more difficult, even if she wanted to stay. “I haven't much experience with magic items,” he admitted, “but if there's a way to put things in, there must be a way to take things out, it's just a matter of finding out what it is. What was this item of yours that ended up in there?” The conversation was interrupted abruptly, as fast hoofbeats approached the train of soldiers and baggage from behind. A messenger dressed in light armour and bearing the sashimono banner of the Hizashi rode with almost impossible speed up the side of the procession before dismounting and throwing himself with great haste down on the floor in front of them. “Kojuro-sama, Hosokawa-sama! I have an urgent message from Lord Hizashi.” Kojuro rode up in front of the messenger. “Sit up. What is it?” he asked. The messenger arose. “There has been another raid by bandits, this time in the north - Shimokawa. Lord Genji commands that Kojuro-sama and the Hizashi men divert onto Shimokawa to tackle the bandits there, while Hosokawa-sama and his men continue on their original mission.” He bowed again. “If there's more – you can tell me on the way,” Kojuro replied. Kojuro looked to Hosokawa and gave him a nod, before wheeling his horse around and riding back down the line to gather the small number of Hizashi men that had accompanied the Hosokawa on the mission. “Slight change of plan,” he said to Wuppo and Rena, “but there will still be fighting to do.” Kojuro took note of the surroundings. “We'll cut across country and get to Shimokawa as quickly as possible, before these bandits get a chance to relax.” And with that, Kojuro rode off alongside the messenger, accompaned by Wuppo and Rena, with the Hizashi men behind, taking them off the road and heading north through the open farmlands towards Shimokawa. Exit to Shimokawa.
