 Hizashi mansion featured a main courtyard and a couple side courtyards, a garden, and numerous walkways. In the main courtyard, an old and respected cherry tree overlooks a man-made pond constantly rippling from the gentle breeze of uncontested altitude. Some of the walkways overlooked the cliffs upon which the mansion was built and gave a beautiful view of misty valleys below. The atmosphere up here is tranquil, as the fortified residence bore minimal traffic and everyone was usually on their best behavior. |

Not long after the hour of the rabbit, just as the sun had illuminated the sky, Omura stepped out a door and into the crisp air of central Kiyonai on a spring morning. Dressed sharply as usual in formal attire, the man came presented in multiple layers of grey, an outer kimono and a lining underneath, fastened with a white obi that held his symbolic katana and wakizashi before his left hip. While dressed appropriately for his station, the white puffball hanging from a thin chain before his haori outer coat was the only break from his rather drab presence. His face always seemed scrunched into an expressionless scowl, though one could tell by the deep breath he exhales that he is enjoying the tranquility of the morning. He then speaks slowly, as though addressing one standing just behind him. Everything about him exuded an immeasurable air of patience and restraint.
". . Another good morning, m'lord. The forecasts look clear, and the horoscopes were good. The domain is yours to command."

"Looks like it," he said with a smile.
Hizashi-no-Kami-Genji, lord of the Kiyonai domain, exited out the door just behind his trusted right hand man and advisor, Mr. Kawakami. He too brought in a breath of fresh air, though there was something symbolic, in the air this fine spring morning. For this occasion, he wore the slightly festive color of yellow, embroidered with silver, to highlight his broad-shouldered haori. As always, the maroon lacquered scabbard of his wakizashi was tucked snugly into his obi and held tight before his body in front of his left hip, its hilt almost to his naval. Alongside it, he had just fitted his longer sword, the katana, as was appropriate when a samurai was going outdoors.
"Today's the first day. Are the supplies ready to go? The guard all rested up?"

As Nakatani entered the trough the gate, a gust of wind welcomed her in. It felt gentle on her face and was a welcome feeling on this nice warm day. She would walk by the pond and look at her own reflection in the water. It felt good to be back in the culture she grew up in, but after two whole years she also couldn't help to feel slightly out of place. She kneeled down and looked at herself closely. Her hair seemed messy, but she hadn't had the supplies to fashion it the way she had wanted. Her face was slightly tanned from her time in Isra, making her appearance even less like the white geisha she once was. Her lips were blank instead of the red she had so loved. Overal she felt like a different person then she had been before and yet the same girl who she once was, hoping to find her purpose in this world.
She would continue to walk to the Sakura tree and gently caress its bark, take in the scent of its flowers and listen to the breeze that rustled its branches. Here she would await Genji.

It had been several days since that crisp morning when he discussed the plans of the new town construction with the daimyo. On this day, the weather similar to the last, he found Nakatani standing before the cherry tree that adorned the central courtyard.
"Mmm... I see you've managed to find us.. It is good to know that you have survived. I am sure our lord Genji will be pleased."

Nakatani turned around in surprise. The voice she heard was not the one from the person she had expected to come find her. "Omura-san, you surprised me." she gave him a smile and bowed down to him in respect.
"It has been a long journey, yet I indeed find myself back in Lord Genji's home."

Omura often had a tendency to surprise. So professionally silent and considerate his footfalls and movement that he often seemed to sprout right out of a doorway or from right behind you at any given moment. Yet he never intended to startle, and he always treated any such moments with a few seconds' quiet, almost conflicted ponderance. Today was no different.
". . . Indeed. . ." he went on, with his slow and considerate voice. For those unfamiliar with his mannerisms and subtleties, Omura often came across as mostly drab and expressionless.
". . I will see to it that your accommodations are cared for. At the moment, I am afraid Lord Genji is out on a hunt. He will return shortly. For the time being, please, make yourself at home."

"That is very kind of you Omura-san." again she nodded her head in respect as she thanked him. "However I did come here expecting charity after I disappeared so sudden two years ago. I would like to earn my stay. Perhaps I could help the servants cook or clean?" she announced. "All I would require is a room to sleep and some food in my stomach. Maybe a more practical outfit for my tasks would be suiting as well."
She knew she could have just stayed and enjoyed the view, but Nakatani had always learned to work hard and earn her keep. Even as a small girl her life had been about numbers. Every meal she consumed would be added to the debt that she one day would have to repay to the geisha family that had adopted her. It had been Genji's money that had paid that debt and set her free. She had not forgotten that and a part of her still wanted to earn it back for him.

Just then, the wooden gate opens. There, atop a great black warhorse and leading a procession of a handful of noble retainers, was Genji. He had the yumi longbow across his back and several arrows. He stopped before Nakataki, dismounting from his steed, as the procession continues into the mansion.
"It's very good to see you! It must have taken a fortune to find us! I'm glad not all of my best people have been lost," he says amicably, giving her a shallow and friendly bow.

As soon as he dismounted his warhorse, Nakatani bowed her head in respects to him. "It is an honor to find myself in your company again my Lord. It has indeed taken me some time to catch rumors of your return." she smiled at him before giving the majestic horse a gentle pet over the nose. Nakatani had always been quite fond of animals.
"I hope your hunt has gone well." She then said as she turned her head towards him again with a smile. Still gently petting the horse over its soft velvet nose.

"Not the greatest haul today," he said, making little mention of the lack of deer that came back with them today. "But it's the spirit of the hunt that counts."
The warhorse seemed to enjoy her gentle touch. In the presence of certain people, it was quite the tame beast.

She considered for a moment if it was the right time now to discuss the thing that was on her mind. In the end she decided she couldn't wait for an audience to know it.
She turned towards Genji, a slightly pained look on her face. "Lord Genji, if you would be so kind to answer me one question. What happened to our beloved Katashima?" she paused, looking to the ground, searching for words to say. "I have heard rumours about a civil war. There was no boat that would take me back, no matter how much money I offered.. Why did you leave, my lord?"

"That... That is quite a bit complicated. The short answer is that the Hizashi clan moved, to avoid imminent destruction. A number of us had prepared for seppuku... But then there was discovered, another factor... One that left myself and others convinced, that to die there was not the destiny of our people."
Genji led his warhorse towards the stables, moving slowly as he intended to signal Nakatani to follow.
"But let us not discuss such matters here. Come in, we'll have a bit of tea."

She tried to not show the sadness on her face, but she found it hard to hide it. She loved Katashima, to think it had fallen to such a desperate state... It was hard for her to imagine.
She followed Genji, walking next to him and matching his footsteps as they walked towards the stable. "It must have been very hard for you My Lord."

He has several recently acquired scars, including a sword cut to his left arm which has left him only partial use of that hand, and a another from a sword cut along his jawline on the right side.
Clothes and Equipment: He is normally dressed in conventional attire for his culture and social class. As a lord, his clothing is high quality, though not ostentatious. For everyday wear a simple kosode and hakama, silk courtly robes for official duties, and armour on the battlefield. He prefers greens and blues, though often may be wearing the maroon and gold of the Hizashi clan.
In battle he can be noticed from a distance by the dragonfly crest on his helmet. He also wears a surcoat in Hizashi maroon and gold and a set of lacquered armour bearing the Hizashi clan cherry blossom crest. In battle he is armed with a tachi (long sword) and a tanto (dagger), and also carries a fan to signal orders. He will also be found carrying his swords everywhere, as is usual for samurai.

In one of the smaller courtyards of the mansion, Hizashi Kojuro was dressed in a simple kosode and hakama, his hair and sleeves tied back, practising kenjutsu kata with a bokken in hand. The light breeze cooled him and swayed the leaves and flowers. It was a pleasant day with clear air and calm surrroundings and he was glad to be out in it. Today was the first time he had picked up a sword since he was injured out on a mission for Lord Genji, and although all his wounds had fully healed, there was nothing that could be done about the cut tendons in his left arm. He wouldn't be shooting a bow or wielding a spear again, but he was determined to re-learn the sword, so he could at least be somewhat useful to Lord Genji. He had been out in the courtyard since dawn, the bokken seeming heavier than it ever had before, his muscles feeling the repurcussions of his inactivity.

Nakatani took her usual stroll about the courtyards, enjoying the blooming sakura trees. She was dressed in an elegant kimono made of light yellow silk with green and blue flowers embroidered around the bottom half of it, The obi she wore with it was blue and resembled a calm river.
As she walked she got a glimpse of the samurai who was practicing in the courtyards. Her heart skipped a beat. Was it Isao? Had he returned? Had Lord Genji been too busy to summon her to bring her the news? She took a few faster steps forward before realizing the truth. It wasn't Isao. The samurai in front of her didn't even resemble him. He had brown hair instead of black.
She blushed, embarrassed by her own childlike behavior.
When she was able to get back her usual composure she would continue her path towards the samurai. When she got close to him she would bow and smile at him friendly. "Hello Samurai-san. I don't think we met before. My name is Nakatani, I have come in service of Lord Genji a few days back. I would like you to know that you can call on me for anything you need during your stay in his mansion." she again bowed respectfully after finishing her talk.

Kojuro lowered his bokken as the lady approached. By any standards, she was beautiful, and the sun glinted from the silk threads in her outfit making her appear like some exotic bird. Either that or he'd been indoors too long. In contrast to her immaculate appearance, he felt somewhat embarrassed to appear before her all sweaty and disshevelled. It seemed that he hadn't noticed her slight faux pas in thinking he was someone else, caught up as he was in his training. He gave a small bow in return. “I'd definitely remember if we had,” he replied. “It's a pleasure to meet you. I am Hizashi Kojuro, Genji-dono's nephew.” The way she said “stay” implied that she thought he was a guest, and there was no reason she shouldn't. “I live here, although I've been somewhat indisposed recently,” he said with a wry smile. At first, he took her offer as a pleasantry, but a thought occurred to him, and since his body was demanding a break from sword practice he replied, “Maybe there is something I could ask of you? Could you fill me in on what has been happening since you arrived? From your own perspective of course.”

She looked up a slight bit surprised when the samurai mentioned he was Lord Genji's nephew. She had expected him to tell her if there were any other relatives of him staying in the mansion. "Please excuse me for mistaken you for a guest, I meant no offense Kojuro-san." she bowed again in respect, this time a bit deeper knowing his family name.
She noticed they must be around the age and for a moment considered the difference in their skillsets. One was into the practice of swords, the other in dance and words.
Upon his request she smiled at him, finding it a bit of an odd request but pleased to answer it for him. "I am afraid not much has happened since my arrival Kojuro-san. I was in service of Lord Genji back in Katashima. When I heard of his return I rushed my way here to ask him to once again be useful to him. He was glad to accept me back into his mansion." she smiled a bit at him, pausing a small moment before continuing. "Since then I have mostly tended to the care of a woman named Ketsueki-san. She is a guest of Lord Genji, though I know not exactly why. I am afraid that is all I can tell you about what I know."
Upon finishing her sentence she took a small handkerchief from her sleeves. "If you would let me, Kojuro-san." she said with an innocent smile. She would then, if he would let her, softly pad the sweat of his forehead. She knew it was an intimate gesture to someone she had just met, but she had been brought up to ensure the entertainment and wellbeing of many men. She knew the gentle touch of a woman could mean a lot to a young men in training and she had always admired the hard work of samurais. "It must be a harsh training if you ended up in so much sweat. Make sure you drink enough water, Kojuro-san."

Arriving through the gate to the compound, Omura Kawakami had four people in tow. Tika Seya , @chineseprincess, Nameless Samurai , and Kiara followed him into the courtyard after a long morning's ride from the capital. He sought out Genji, but seemed to be giving the four a bit of a tour of the compound, hinting that they may be here to stay for awhile. "... And this, is the courtyard." As the close adviser to the Hizashi family, he bowed to Kojuro as he passed him and Nakatani. "Mm.. Good to see you are practicing hard." It was the closest Omura ever offered to a friendly smile. |

Tika followed quietly behind Omura with the others, her eyes scanning around the beautiful courtyard and taking in all the sights. Her gaze fell on a young man and woman, one of whom Omura went on to address. She especially took note of the one Omura spoke to, as it suggested he might be an important figure sometime in the future.
