“None taken,” he replied with a smile. He wasn’t expecting that she would know who he was. There was no reason why she should, and while he appreciated politeness he wasn’t someone to stand on ceremony at all times. He listened to her account of events carefully, putting away the information to follow up on later. “How do you find it here, compared to Katashima?” he asked. “May I ask what manner of service you were in to my uncle?” He wondered if perhaps she was a mistress of his, although there were many ways she could have served him, and he wasn’t jumping to any conclusions.
It was indeed an intimate gesture and quite unexpected, but he saw no way to refuse it without causing her offence, although he did find himself blushing a little at her closeness, especially since Omura chose that moment to stride through the courtyard. He took a subtle half step sideways. “I’ll give it my all, Omura-san!” he called back cheerily to Lord Hizashi’s chief advisor, noting that the man was being followed by a train of strangers, like a mother duck followed by her ducklings. So much for this courtyard seeming like a good, secluded place to train – it was now serving as some kind of thoroughfare. As they seemed to pass by for now, he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. There was a lot of catching up to do.
“You’re right,” he replied, and leaned his bokken against the edge of the veranda, before taking a much-needed drink of water from a bamboo flask. “It would be good to talk some more, if you have the time. But first, I should really go and get changed."

"Katashima and Tawakoshi seem very similar, but Katashima will always be my home land. I don't believe anything can compare to the place that you were born at." She looked at one of the cherry trees that were in the garden. Even though they were beautiful, they seemed dull compared to the ones she remembered. "As for the service to your uncle, I am nothing more than a simple servant. I have received and served many of his guests in the past."
Instead of a wave Nakatani would bow to Omura to show her respect for the men and also to the guests. She was sure she would find out more about them later.
She smiled at him gentle when he asked to talk more. She enjoyed his company. It really did remind her off the old times with Isao in Katashima. She was in big need of a friend, especially in a big mansion as this one and was glad the samurai seemed to enjoy her company as well. "I would be glad to talk to you more Kojuro-san. I will prepare us some tea and meet you under the cherry blossom trees." She bowed to him before she left.

Genji strode out into the courtyard. Here, a number of people had arrived and many others were out and about. It was going to be a busy day! He stepped down the stairs and into the morning sun, the gentle spring breeze making for a very relaxing and optimistic atmosphere. He strode over to where they all stood... Kojuro, Nakatani, Omura, Nameless Samurai, Tika, Pana, and Kiara. Judging by Omura's presence, he could extrapolate what the visitors were here for. Soon, he expected the arrival of another one of his closest retainers as well. Recent bandit activity had caused for a stir in activity.
"Good morning, everybody. Good to see you're practicing, Kojuro.. I might want to take a look at that technique later. And it's nice to see that you are back, Omura. I trust these are the ones I was looking for? Now... Which one of you is Tika?"

Post by Hosokawa Gentarou Masahiro on May 18, 2017 13:37:36 GMT -8
Lord Genji's hatamoto - a loyal banner-man and retainer to the Hizashi - was a disciplined man in his early thirties seasoned from conflict. Thrust into a role he was unfamiliar with after a youth spent on the battlefield, the stoic man formally known as Hosokawa Gentarou Masahiro made his appearance after a personal summons. The samurai warrior was a hard, lean man armed and armored in the traditional trappings of a bushi. For the court yard summons Masahiro presented himself within the well attended armor of a yoroi. Much like the seasoned man it protected it had seen many battles but careful maintenance and repair kept it in serviceable condition. It was lacquered a vibrant red with clean white lacing throughout. At his hip he carried a daisho - a small sword and long sword - which were as equally maintained as his armor. In addition to the swords he carried a jūmonji yari in hand, distinctive with its cross guard, and a gunbai which dangled from his armor.
Armored head to heel in fine armaments, Masahiro struck an intimidating presence to uninitiated to the arts martial. With his kabuto under his arm his visage was open to all with his well trimmed whiskers and beard and topknot without a hint of gray in his hair like his stately patron. The hatamoto's gaze carefully swept the courtyard and its occupants, noting each and every person present. Where etiquette demanded he offered a bow from where he stood to his lord in addition to the venerable Omura and the young master. However, he did not speak as he awaited the recognition of his lordship first and foremost. Ever the dutiful vassal, Masahiro remained nearby in attendance such that his spear might be readily lowered to attack any assailant might he need to defend Hizashi-no-Kami.

Arriving close behind the hatamoto was a woman at the head of what was obviously a small household of servants and retainers. Hosokawa Aya was a small woman, only just over one and a half metres in height. She was dressed elegantly in a pale green kosode with a light gold collar under which could be seen a pale pink collar and a white collar, dark purple hakama and a dusky lilac uchikake. The obi she wore was a lovely rose colour and was tied simply in front. Her geta-clad tabi covered toes just peeping out from under her hem. Her hair was dark and shiny, and pulled up into a simple knot pinned at the nape of her neck. She stood several paces behind her husband, head respectfully lowered in deference to her lord and his master.

She rose, still kneeling, and bowed her head again as she spoke.
"I am Tika, my lord."

"I see. Just to think, such a delicate flower made such short work of those bandits. And you," he said, looking to Pana, "you came with her? Very good. Everyone may rise," he said, on account of the fact that everyone in the courtyard would be bowed, stopped from their previous activities. "Carry on, carry on," he said in good spirits, "it is a festive day. Tonight we feast, in honor of the Hizashi clan's recent successes in revival." The feast would mean even more, to some. The arrival of a symbolic importance to the Hizashi clan and its destiny. However, only certain members of the family and its inner circle were privy to such sensitive matters. He then looked to Hosokawa Masahiro and Hosokawa Aya. A perfect timing. "Welcome! It is good to see you. There is much we have to discuss after I have spoken with young Tika here. Have you met my nephew, Kojuro Hizashi?"

Kiara bowed when she was supposed to, and stood back up when she was told. She shrunk behind Tika a little bit so she wasn't seen as staring, but her eyes widened a little bit when Tika was mentioned. Then she looked at the man named Hizashi kojuro, wanting to learn as much as she could.

The steely eyed gaze of the Hosokawa banner lord gave the young nephew of his liege a look of appraisal. Masahiro was a discerning man who took a moment to take his measure of the youth. It was at that time, as his own retinue of retainers arrived, that his lady wife made her presence known. From the corner of his eye he noted Aya though he made no indication of acknowledgment as armed and armored Hosokawa guardsmen flanked their lady and created a distinct presence within the courtyard. The arrival of the Hosokawa and their dutiful samurai was a positive bolster to the morale of the estate. So, Masahiro finally acknowleded Kojuro with a nod before spoke in reply to his liege.
"My lordship, it is an honor to attend you this day," he spoke in a low, even temper. "I have only met the young master in passing."

Aya rose from her deep bow at Lord Genji's words, resuming her previous posture. She did not acknowledge her husband at all - to interfere or disrupt the scene around her would be the height of indiscretion. She took the opportunity to discreetly glance at the young Kojuro and bow to him politely. He seemed a worthy young man, well mannered and appropriate. She had seen glimpses of him in passing before, but had never met him. Clearly, he had been trained in the fighting arts, that much was obvious from his carriage and his physique. But she noted a slight stiffness in the way he held his left arm and wondered how he had been injured.
Still, Aya did not speak, and would not unless spoken to directly. After all, she was only a woman. But even as she kept her peace, she kept her ears open and listened intently to the conversation around her.

“Ah, I never had the opportunity to go there,” he replied to Nakatani, as she talked about Katashima being her homeland. Following her gaze up at the cherry trees, he had to agree. “Of course, but every place is special to someone…” he smiled wistfully. He would definitely meet her later for tea, how could he refuse such an offer from such a charming person. But that would be on the assumption that he wasn’t required for anything else.
It was at that moment that Lord Genji himself stepped into the courtyard. He faced his uncle and bowed along with the others present. “Thank you, my Lord, I’m afraid it is very much in need of improvement.” Omura and his line of little ducks had stopped to pay respects to Lord Genji, and more people were approaching. Kojuro was intensely curious about all of all them, and even more so about Lord Genji’s statement about the Hizashi clan’s successes. Despite Nakatani’s assurance that nothing much had happened recently, events were telling a different story entirely.
He gave Masahiro and then the person he assumed to be his wife a bow in return. This was his uncle’s famous general, and he felt the scrutiny of steely Masahiro’s gaze, yet didn’t seem the least uncomfortable beneath it. Masahiro’s arrival in full armour and bristling with weapons and Hosokawa retainers was impressive to say the least. Undoubtedly Kojuro could learn a lot from this man if they would be working together. Once again he felt distinctly underdressed in this company. “Indeed, Lord Hosokawa and I have only met briefly, though I know him by reputation. Are the Hosokawas settling in Kiyonai along with Lord Genji?” he asked Masahiro.

Upon sight of Setoku, the man often considered Genji's "right hand" adviser excused himself as tactfully as possible from the gathering, on account of the fact that Genji may have seen Setoku's arrival as well. Given that he had been tasked with indoctrinating new members when able, he walked over to the newcomer. His voice was dull, his expression lacking in emotion, and he carried with him an air of patience and rationale. "Mm... what's this? Who.. are you?"

Genji stood quietly as Masahiro and Kojuro caught up a little bit. He thought it very important for them to meet, both in casual atmosphere and formal company. They would be sharing a close working relationship very shortly in the future. Kojuro was soon to inherit command of a samurai detachment. Masahiro, recently promoted to the station of hatamoto, was to oversee an operation he planned to announce in the near future. It was very likely they would be fielded on that mission together. He looked up at the disturbance at the entrance. A visitor. Omura had swept in to handle that, hopefully with the result of another sword for the cause. "Tika, will you and Pana follow me? Everyone else, please, make yourselves at home. I will return here very shortly." If the two complied, he would lead them inside.

With a sideways glance to the armed stranger who was allowed entrance to the estate grounds, Masahiro restrained himself as Omura engaged the individual. He did not like seeing strangers in the house of his lord bearing such weapons but he said nothing and refocused his attention on the young lordling. The Hosokawa banner-lord nodded to Kojuro before he relinguished his firm grasp on his spear, instead preferring a more relaxed hold. "A modest estate was recently constructed by my liege for my family, retainers, and the men beneath my command here in the province," he explasined to the young lordling. "In accordance with the demands of my new position, I need be near and stand ready with all the men beneath my command."
For reasons left unsaid.
With a small nod he readjusted the helmet he carried under his arm and regarded his wife behind him along with his detachment of guardsmen. While his liege left them to further wait while he addressed two of the assembly in private, Masahiro approached Aya with a measure of stoic indifference. One of the men, a dutiful retainer, took his spear and helmet when the armaments were offered. With his hands freed the well groomed hatamoto addressed the lady in a low, quiet tone.
"It would seem our stay here will be longer than anticipated. I would ask you stand ready to assist his lordship in matters of estates should you be so asked, my Lady."

Ketsueki found her way out to the courtyard, and as well to the number of individuals present. Considering what the past month had been, it was a little overwhelming. She wasn't anywhere near ready to engage such a number, and kept a safe distance where she could keep as many in her sight as possible. But she tried to let her attention wander to the tended garden that was the courtyard - it really was a very nice place for a walk.

Aya raised her eyes to look at her husband. Though she was fiercely proud of him and privately thought he looked rather wonderful in his armour, she allowed none of her emotions to show on her face. Only perhaps a certain gleam in her eye might indicate some sort of personal regard.
"Of course," she replied in a low, calm tone. "It is an honour to serve in whatever capacity is needed. I am at his lordship's command." She bowed her head forward in acceptance of the task Masahiro had placed on her. "My lord will, of course, make it known to his lordship that he is welcome in our home at any time that suits his convenience." After all, business was not discussed while standing around in a courtyard.
