There are two separate arena's set up within the tournament grounds. Large circular clearings surrounded by stands to hold the various people who will be observing the fights to come. The ground of the arena is dirt packed down hard and smooth and clear of any debris with a series of circles, with a diameter of twenty feet, marked off chalk lines indicating this is where participants are to fight. There are two black chalk lines surrounding center ring about five apart denoting where contests are to start.
This is the Full Contact Arena denoted by the red banners flying around the perimeter. To one side is a viewing area where participants can view the prizes to remind themselves what they are fighting for besides glory. The viewing area is surrounded by wards and guards so it is unlikely, indeed nearly impossible to dream of stealing the prize before the competition.
Inside is, of course, three chests filled with large sums of gold. These take-up space around the true prizes.
The trophy that will be rewarded to the person with the most victories is a golden blade when the tournament is completed the blade will have their name emblazoned on it to commemorate their victory for all time. It sits in a prominent position in a display case.
The Cieltherium blade that will be awarded if the winner declines the grant of land sits in a display just off from the trophy blade. It crackles with magical power.

The tournament had not yet begun, but Asger wished to examine the fighting grounds before he entered the ring to fight. He went to the full contact arena first because he felt less invested in the sports bracket. Of course, he wanted to view the prizes as well. He wondered if the guard would even let him in.

The answer to Asger 's question is yes he is allowed within the arena, though he will be stopped if he tries to approach any of the fighting rings. Still, the prizes are open to viewing by the participants and the public alike so long as they stay away from the field proper. Asger would be advised that if he is looking to practice before the tournament he should head to The Sparring Grounds.

Asger glanced over the prizes in an almost bored fashion, though his gaze lingered on the sparkling blue sword. He looked around the inside of the stadium, "This is quite the structure. What is it used for when there are no tournaments?" Asger looked at the guards. His experience as a military leader naturally made him size up the soldier.

The Gauldish soldier was in the white and gold livery of the royal guards who policed all of Travere which meant he looked clean, professional, and like he knew what he was doing. "The Tournament grounds are used to host all manner of events throughout the year. Though if no even is one they are left empty." The guard says to the nordic man looking his way, sizing him up, and then continuing to look around for signs of trouble.

Asger walked with his hands clasped behind his back, showing an air of military nonchalance. "Gualdind is quite the impressive country." Asger examined how strong and thick the walls of the colosseum were. "Your country has quite the impressive military. But are the always so many soldiers at these festivals?" It did seem that there were more soldiers than participants in this tournament. Asger wondered just how many.

If Asger was surprised that the number of soldiers outnumbered the number of participants then his country was likely a lawless place. There, of course, needed to be enough soldiers to overwhelm the participants should they get rowdy since defeating them with skill alone might not be possible. They also needed to ensure there were enough soldiers to patrol the grounds and police the spectators. "Merci." The guard says in response to the man's compliments and his question is met with a shrug. "Oui monsieur, keeping order is important n'est-ce pas? So the king ensures there are enough soldiers to keep the peace."

"Oui," Asger copied, "Protecting the people is of the utmost importance..." Asger gave the golden sword a final look before leaving the building. If the guard thought him barbaric the mountain man didn't notice. It was these lowlanders who were uncivilized for needing to police a public event.

Raoul Ferdinand
Dedicated
King of Prospernalia
Roleplay posts: 235
Physical Description: Tall and lean, with his dark, unkempt hair and dark blue eyes, Raul cuts a striking figure. He has strong, broad shoulders and long limbs, obviously accustomed to hard work.
Clothes and Equipment: He typically wears rough, sturdy clothing, stained with dust from the road, and several days' worth of stubble. Despite this, his equipment is immaculately maintained, the mark of a man that lives and dies by his tools. His primary weapon seems to be a large recurved bow, a composite of horn and wood so powerful that it requires extraordinary strength to string, or even pull. He also carries several harpoons, perhaps for hunting large game. His heavy, scaled armor is woven with protective wards.

Clad in full plate, Raoul stepped into the ring with his halberd in his hand. The longsword hung from his left hip, and a dagger from his right. A second dagger was sheathed at the small of his back. He had chosen the heaviest armor of any of the competitors by a substantial margin, and in the first bout would be facing the one with the least. He wondered for a moment if they were chosen by lots or by the organizers. Oh, well. No matter now. Raoul looked across the circle to Kuro Issen , sizing him up for a moment, then he laughed and flashed a wink. Closing his visor, he took a fighting stance. His right hand gripped the shaft about a third of the way of the way up, with the left a comfortable space below it. He left more of the butt-end of the pole below his left hand than might be expected, but the overall length of the weapon still left him a substantial reach advantage over any of the swords registered to the tournament. He lead with his right foot and right hand, not quite fully in profile, but close to it. Raoul held the halberd in a low guard, with his leading hand close to his body. The axe head was turned upward and the long spike pointed toward Kurro’s midsection. “Say when.”

Before his match began, Asger lingered outside the arena building, waiting for his people to arrive. As he waited he walked around the arena, looking for any windows or side entrances.
His kin did not show Asger continued into the arena building. Before the match wondered of the waiting room and storage area would be as heavily guarded.
