The dense forests bordering the area from north to west of Erstonia, always standing green and tall. Animals run freely within the area, some of the more dangerous beasts being found deeper in the woods. A couple of smaller river branches can be found in the general woods.

@helmfirth
Marschall Henke would arrive at the edge of Niska Woods with his force. He had 100 Sergeants, 100 Crossbows, 5 Clerics, 5 Knight Brothers, and 40 Halbruders - not to mention the handful of laborers he brought along. The soldiers were to protect the folk, while the laborers themselves were mostly woodcutters, builders, and hunters. Henke was careful not to enter the woods, and only come upon the very edge. "Set up camp here," he said, indicating the prime position on a hill. "Assign lookouts to watch our rear and flanks. The rest of you prepare a lumber camp here. You laborers will fell what trees you can on the edge of the forest - do not go far into the woods. Only the hunters are allowed within, and even then you are expected to exercise extreme caution."
And so, after a camp was made, the men got to work. The woodcutters would begin clearing some of the land against the forest's edge, collecting the timber and storing it in a pile near their camp. The hunters tried to go further in and seek animals for their meat and fur. When the pile became large enough the builders would start to construct primitive watchtowers, which would be garrisoned with the crossbowmen.
Henke and his men would patrol the hill and ensure their workers were safe. They waited only for a potential danger to come lunging out of the forest... or an ill tale told by a returning huntsman.

There was nothing to stop them. No bandits tearing out of the trees or deadly beasts to attempt to maul and rip poor fools to shreds. The day was calm and quiet and clear, the only movement within the trees being the birds taking flight or the occasional deer bounding away for safety. There was an angry badger that didn't care much for being disturbed so near his home, but he sheer number of humans around encouraged the animal to seek a new home elsewhere further into the forest. For the time being - Henke and his men could work in peace.

Jun of the Celadine

Roleplay posts: 1,410
Age: 28
Physical Description: Jun is a human adult, standing 5’4”. She is wiry and fit at approximately 120 lbs. She has olive skin, dark brown hair ending just above her shoulders, and slight epicanthic folds over her dark almond eyes. Her face is squarish with a small chin. Her skin is dotted with battle scars, and her left arm is heavily bandaged due to an unknown affliction.
Clothes and Equipment: Jun possesses a vast collection of seeds, herbs, insects, and scrolls hidden in various pouches in her armor. These serve as reagents for her multitude of spells. Her armor consists of a customized, long-coat style gambeson that is stuffed with a matrix of seeds and plant fibers. Fitted on top is a set of brass-like, enchanted half armor (chest piece, pauldrons, and tassets) which gives off a warm aura. She has an open-faced, burgonet style helmet and coif of the same materials.
Her most notable "weapons" are Blackbean and Resonance. Blackbean is an elephant-sized demon crow which has served with Jun for many years as a mount and as a bodyguard. A minor enchantment allows him to disguise himself as a regular crow. Resonance is an azure blue longsword with a mind of his own. He can intercept minor attacks and can teleport to his owner. He can also use a personal reserve of magic to aid in the casting of a single spell.

Jun would also arrive at a (slightly different) edge of Niska Woods with her motley crew. She had herself, one demon crow, one dragon disguised as a roguish bloke, one overly polite soldier, one void abomination, and one adorable donut-eating super fairy - not to mention Xel'rath's theme song which she could not stop unconsciously humming softly. Their mission was to find the Warden of Airedale and free Acrine Village from their tyranny forever.
While the forest's initial impression was foreboding, Jun was actually relieved. Her powers were magnified in places of abundant life energy. Really it was just a matter of picking the right outfit to traverse it.
"You know, I just realized, we left with such haste we don't actually know anything about the Warden. What do you think we're looking for oh yee of a thousand years of experience and equally sized ego?" She asked Jarkoopi.

Physical Description: Riley Fletcher is a red-haired human standing 6 feet in height, with the body of a trained soldier. His hair has been described as "red and floppy" and his clothes always seem to be their cleanest. Cheesecake is a fairy standing 6 inches in height, wearing a pink skirt. She has short blonde hair with a tiny cowlick that never seems to go away no matter what.
Clothes and Equipment: Riley's normal attire includes his red armor and green-tinted plate pieces and his green scythe with an amber blade. The scythe was a gift from the archfey themselves. Riley will be the first to admit a scythe isn't actually a viable weapon but the archfey, living in another plane of existence and having no idea what humans consider weapons, gifted him one thinking that because "it's super awesome-looking" it must be a proper weapon.
He keeps a longsword and shield as a backup for when the archfey are proven wrong. Along with his weapon, Riley carries with him standard adventuring gear as well as healing potions for when they're traveling. Cheesecake's small size means she's not able to carry much more than her rapier (essentially a metal toothpick).

Riley's smug face was impossible to hide, just as much as Cheesecake's newly grown belly caused by a donut that infinitely regenerated. While she sighed and weighed Riley's head down with her sleeping body, Riley kept pace with the two and stayed alongside Jun.
"You two act like you've been friends for a while. Where and how did you two meet? It's not often I meet a human who interacts with a dragon and doesn't refer to them as 'yes master'." He asked Jun after Jark responded.

He owns his father's ancestral unique magical scale mail. It is enchanted to break on impact and the shards return his body and reform into a different piece of armor until it is struck, then it repeats the steps.

Jarkoopi marched along, giving a quick reply to Jun at her provocative question. “Someone with a fort, a castle. And alot of people under their rule.”
He kept moving along, keeping careful watch of the forested surrounding, ready to shift back into his draconic form if he felt threatened. He'd allow Jun and Riley to converse.

Jun stopped humming and smirked. "Oh, Jarkoopi was the very first dragon I ever met. It was a few years ago when I started my adventures in a kingdom called Medan. Nowadays it goes by the Dutchy of Meridian, and before that it was Goraia. But when I knew it first it was Medan. The princess at the time was a young woman named Camilla. She was tracking down some rare artifacts, and that brought us to Jarkoopi's lair. We got him to agree to assist us, and as a token of friendship, I gave him a teleportation scroll he could use to summon me in an emergency. He's not the last dragon I've met either. I've learned magic of various sorts from three different dragons, two of which I consider to be genuinely kind and benevolent. The third was... er, a bit more like Jarkoopi." She gave him a teasing aside glance. "That's how I learned to speak Draconic."
Jun suddenly remembered what Riley had said before, about all dragons being evil. "The thing about dragons is that they are prideful creatures who always stay true to themselves. They're like forces of nature. They do whatever they feel they must... I uh, I take it your experiences with dragons has been different from mine."

He sighed and shook his head.
"Every dragon I've met has been the same. Attacking villages, demanding sacrifices, boasting how they're gods of this world, calling all humans inferior or insects or bugs or pets, that sort of thing. It always amused me a dragon would even take a human form if they think we're all beneath them. It'd be like you putting on a mouse costume to talk with animals. I'm surprised they'd teach you magic at all, I would've thought it was a well-kept dragon secret. It's pretty impressive that you'd know such powerful magic at your age. Most take years just to learn the basics. You're not secretly an elf, are you?"
He chuckled a little at the thought. It wouldn't be the first time he's met someone who looks young but was actually older than his grandmother. The world was a strange place for a normal, non-magical human soldier.

"The thing about dragons is that they are prideful creatures who always stay true to themselves. They're like forces of nature. They do whatever they feel they must... I uh, I take it your experiences with dragons has been different from mine." It didn’t surprise Jarkoopi, Kepesk Altiui that Jun of the Celadine had gone out and sought out other dragons to learn their magic. Had he not be on opposing sides with Jun for so long, she could’ve been taught under him. But that was not how the winds blew. “I knew eventually you’d go out of your way learn draconic and our magics. It only seemed fitting for someone like you, Jun.” He sighed and shook his head. "Every dragon I've met has been the same. Attacking villages, demanding sacrifices, boasting how they're gods of this world, calling all humans inferior or insects or bugs or pets, that sort of thing. He muttered under his breath, an inaudible growl.. “Maybe if your kind hadn’t killed off the few dragons that wanted to help you, there wouldn’t be so many ‘evil’ dragons in comparison to ‘good.’”He marched a few steps, before speaking directly to Riley. “The exact reason they assume forms like this,” he gestured down at his body while walking, “is because of what you think. Would it be safe to fly as a big mythical creature around a civilization of people of your like-minded nature? No. So we adapted to slip right under your noses for a reason. Regardless whether that dragon is ‘good” or “evil’ in your eyes. We all have our reasons.”

"You wouldn't have to hide in plain sight if you didn't try to kill us in plain sight!" Riley snapped back at Jarkoopi, "This whole mortals vs. dragons conflict that we're both perpetuating is due to one side sleighting the other and the other getting revenge on the first. Dragons attack a town, townsfolk kill the dragon out of revenge, dragon assumes all humans are like that and kill or conquer them, humans retaliate by driving dragons back, it's a constant cycle of hatred and bigotry that neither side can stop because humans are too paranoid about dragons attacking them and dragons are too arrogant to realize they could stop the cycle at any time! It's all in your words, dragon! It's how you speak to us! I would never have gone down to Acrine if you were more polite and less aggressive in your verbage. You don't like us shooting you down with arrows? How about not calling us insects and demanding tribute next time. Gods, you'd think someone with a thousand years of magical training would have enough patience to realize that by not being rude and disrespectful people will treat you like an equal instead of a monster."
Riley sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose with two fingers, calming down before he spoke again.
"Miss Jun is one of the few lucky enough to meet a dragon that didn't have malicious intent. Even I would be more open to meeting with a dragon if they didn't talk down to me during our conversations. I would love to learn Draconic, or any kind of magic really. Even something as dopey as Cheesecake making a donut out of thin air is impressive to me. All I have is this scythe, and anyone with a half a brain can tell you that a scythe isn't a viable weapon. You can say I caused this by attacking you, but think back to the conversation in Acrine. Had you started off with kinder words, we would have never met. I would have never attacked you and I wouldn't be here now bothering you. Regardless of your intent, humans care about your phrasing and how you speak to them. If you can work on that, they'll do anything you want."

"My grandmother fought in a war against dragons who tried to invade my homeland. I think she'd be pretty surprised I managed to befriend so many... Humans live unfathomably short lives compared to dragons. We really are like talking mice to them, so it's easy for them to conflate us together as one species. It's hard for dragons to understand that individual humans are unique. And even if they do, that uniqueness seems fleeting. My ancestor killed dragons. I protect them. My children may take up arms against them once again. Likewise, humans learn of dragons mostly through legends and incomplete information because, again, often times there are no direct witnesses that survive past a hundred years. And often the most relevant information concerning dragons is their destructive power. A dragon's sense of individuality is even stronger than that of a human's, so they often have trouble understanding how we don't see them as individuals... So, dragon/human relations are complicated and strange."
Jun chuckled. "Oh, by the way, no I'm not an elf. But there are some that live in my homeland so it's possible I might have a small amount of elven blood in me. Actually, elves are a very long-lived species that are more or less at peace with the short lifespans of humans. I heard an elf once say that elves are a steady flame and humans are like firecrackers, but they both light up the world together."

So, dragon/human relations are complicated and strange." Jun chuckled. "Oh, by the way, no I'm not an elf. But there are some that live in my homeland so it's possible I might have a small amount of elven blood in me. Actually, elves are a very long-lived species that are more or less at peace with the short lifespans of humans. I heard an elf once say that elves are a steady flame and humans are like firecrackers, but they both light up the world together." Riley narrowed his eyes at Jarkoopi. Damn lizard was ignoring him. Eventually he turned his attention back to Jun as his features softened back up. "Well, funny you mention that, there are still elves out there that think humans are inferior because of their age or whatever. In fact, it was a surprise when my ex-fiancee, an elf, fell for me, a human. She didn't think like the other elves in the area and despite being older than my grandmother she loved me for my determination, kindness, and red hair. She was even worried on how to make our marriage work. I guess the universe has a weird sense of humor."

Jun stretched her arms as she walked, comforted that the woods hadn't provided them with any serious challenge. Blackbean flew off Jun's soldier to nab a worm he had spotted at the based of a tree. "Yah, I totally understand. I'm not naive. My grandmother lived during a time when there was tension between people who could use magic and people who couldn't. A group of necromancers who saw themselves as superior to regular mortals actually had the audacity to try to rule our tribe through force. It was an awful civil war. Thankfully they were defeated."
Blackbean brought the worm back to Jun's shoulder and started munching on it there. "Eww..." Jun said. But then she turned back to Riley. "You're lucky your friend eats donuts... But yah, the desire to set yourself on the top of the pyramid, it's weird. It's not unique to any species but almost seems like part of being sentient. It seems wrong... but I guess that's just a part of survival."

Age: 25

"I don't understand it either, to be honest. Humans spend half their lives just trying to prove to the other races they deserve to exist, any human who wants to conquer the world or control large swaths of the country are just corrupt. A nice village of peaceful farmers or a kingdom with happy citizens is all I need."

As a storm dragon, his hide and flesh can generate an electric charge passively when threatened, much like an eel, and can naturally and instantly release it upon being touched by a foreign organism or object.
As a human he takes the appearance of a man in the age range of forties to fifties, averagely built besides being a few inches taller than the average Joe and dressed in clean leather armor and worn blue cloths.
Clothes and Equipment: Two small leather pouches tucked under wings
He owns his father's ancestral unique magical scale mail. It is enchanted to break on impact and the shards return his body and reform into a different piece of armor until it is struck, then it repeats the steps.
A set of personal shoulder pads forged by Brock the forge master. It focuses the passive electricity in his hide into a beam of magic energy which blasts away targets.
Weaponry: Claws, Breath Attack (Lightning), and Bite
Treasure Hoarding: Minimal, mainly gems sometimes gold.
While as a human, he wields a magical long-sword, not much is known about his weapon, as he rarely uses it.

Eventually they all succumb at some point to infighting. A happy kingdom or whatnot can only last so long… The best we can do, is to wage war as orderly as possible for whichever side we think is right when the inevitable does come…”

Jun thinks about how Lady Naoki led the war against Goraia.
"Yah... as orderly as possible."
She turns to Riley. "I'm sorry, I just realized you said your ex-fiance was an elf? What happened? I mean, if you don't mind me asking."

Riley frowned a little as he turned away.
"She, um...she died under my watch." He said solemnly. "Back when I was in the army, my fiancee Jira was a soldier among the ranks. She was an elven archer at the time. I was a front-line fighter, so it was my job to keep her safe. I failed to do that during the ambush and...."

"Oh... I'm so sorry. I uh, I guess I shouldn't have asked... I've been very lucky. The truth is, aside from my grandparents, I haven't lost anyone like that. I mean, I lost a lot of acquaintances and friends when Medan fell to the Goraian regime but, I wasn't going to... m-marry any of them."
Not sure what else to say, Jun carefully reached out and rubbed Riley's shoulder.
