Erstonian Order Lumber Camp
Unmolested by potential threats, Marschall Henke and his followers successfully established a lumber camp on the edge of the Niska Woods. The camp has been fortified with palisade walls, guard towers, and ditches, with a central gate to enter and exit, and another that leads to the forest. Spearmen and crossbowmen generally guard this region from those who would do the workers harm. The lumber collected from the forest will be processed at the lumber mill, and then transported to Saint Karlsheim to support the construction of the coming fortress and surrounding homes and shops.

Erstonian OrderThings were quiet. Nothing was out to attempt against the newly erect camp by the foreigners. But someone was watching. Needless to say, there were eyes in the forest that reported to the deadly other side of the trees, opposite of these laborers. And word had gotten back to a particular individual, piquing her interest. She hadn't seen something like this in DECADES. The people of the light half of the island had opted to just try to live with the inevitability of the monsters on the other side, but this was something completely different. Were they here to liberate the pitiful humans, or conquer them? Whichever the case, it provided something of change. And that was desperately needed by Airedale's High Lady. 900 years of repeated days with little variety tended to wear on the side of boredom. And so, against advisement of those of the Covenant, Lucile had opted to step into the sunlight to see what all the commotion was. She might be seen by a patrol but not in a normal sense. She opted to take another form rather than the human one, one of a large bat with snowy white fur, staring with blood-red beady eyes from the place she hung - about the size of a large bird of prey with wide wings wrapped comfortably around her body. The tall, pointed ears twitched about at any sound, and despite the fact she was in this form she could see quite clearly as she watched the lumber camp.

Thanks to her form @lucile would not be spotted by anyone at the lumbercamp, and if she were then they'd only admire the sight of a 'large albino bat'.
It would take just a little while before rumors spread through the encampment and reached one of the Knight-Brothers. These Ritterbruder were not like the ordinary rabble. They were educated men, raised up in noble houses - and wore armor which protected them against evil. Hearing of this rumor, and knowing nothing good could come of it, one of the Knight-Brothers attempted to investigate - cautiously - with a troop of lesser men, namely spearmen and crossbowmen.

The woman silently snickered as she watched the small detachment come to investigate her - the exceptionally large Albino bat hanging in a tree. It was hilarious, really. Her wings rustled in adjustment from her position, ears flicking a bit, but she made no other motion towards them. She was curious to see what these puny humans were going to do.

The Knight-Brother would eventually see the large, albino bat and quickly order his crossbowmen to aim their crossbows at it. Although his men might think it was odd, he spoke to the creature. "If this is some foul shapeshifting, bat, I suggest your morph and explain yourself!"
As he spoke he began to harness his clerical powers.

Erstonian OrderFoul? How rude! She couldn't help a tilt of her head in response - it was almost laughable. So paranoid, like cattle when there was tension. Maybe a wolf amongst their kin. She was oh, so tempted to spook them and watch them run about bellowing in panic. In a sudden movement she would snap her wings open wide, revealing the rest of her white form as she flapped them about madly and shrieked something fierce - the sound virtually smooth and clean like the sound of a flute yet still terrifying all the same. Yet she made no other move, bringing her wings back closed and continuing to watch, hopefully, the men panic or at least flinch. It was always fun to torment animals like that, to watch the fear in their eyes.

Certainly the spearmen and crossbowmen, simpletons as they were, would flinch - perhaps they even considered running - but the Knight-Brother stood unperturbed, for he had seen worse. It was the resolve of the white-clad knight that held the men in place; he was their bastion, their conduit to a higher power. His clerical powers hummed to those nearby, providing a greater sense of protection to his compatriots.
The Knight was disappointed that the creature would not cooperate. Perhaps that's what it was - a creature - and nothing more. It must have been primal, primitive, unable to grasp the language or meaning of a civilized race.
"Loose," he said calmly.
A barrage of crossbow bolts were hurled directly at the bat and all around it. The high speed of the projectiles were sure to find their target, and should the winged beast attempt to fly away it would find it very hard to evade the entire screen of bolts.

Erstonian OrderAnother soundless giggle. They were so jumpy, except that knight. She remained very still, quickly beginning to hum with a power of her own - easily felt by those attuned to it. It was electric and brimming with energy, as if quivering in restraint. And it was ancient. The bolts flew at her in a blanket, looking to impale her and knock her out of the tree in a pool of blood on the ground. However it was a very different result. The first bolt that came into contact seemed to shatter on impact like fragile glass - and so did the bat. It shattered and broken into hundreds of small pieces that each near instantly took the shape of the same bat in a much smaller form. They fluttered in a cloud through the net of arrowheads and looked to swarm right through the men - not looking to kill or even seriously maim. But just to terrify and stir them up into a frenzy. Such fun!

"Run! By God, run!"
The spearmen and crossbowmen dropped their weapons and shields, and would have dropped their own armor and clothes if it had not been fastened to them. They quickly ran back to the lumbermill, or attempted to. The Knight-Brother, once he steadied his mount, held his blade into the air and barked orders.
"Formation! Maintain formation! Steel yourselves, fools!"
The men turned and rallied at the behest of their commander, though trembled in fear. The Knight-Brother, meanwhile, released the holy energy that had been building up within him. A shockwave emanated from his person, expanding rapidly in the area. It would substantially weaken, hinder, or even kill the numerous bats which molested the caster and the Order's men. Only those winged varmints on the fringes of the swarm would not be affected.

Erstonian OrderThe pulse scattered the bats, seeming to repel them like leaves from a wide blanket popped open to scatter them. Their own movements ceased for a few moments as they fell like such leaves on the breeze, before almost immediately springing back to life and fluttering away back towards the trees. They would vanish into the shade of the canopy of forest trees, leaving only the faintest womanly chuckle behind on the wind until it faded to nothing.

When the commanding Knight-Brother was assured the threat had passed he ordered his men back to the lumber camp. From here on out, however, patrols were doubled, watchmen increased, and new policies enacted as to the protection of the camp...
