"Dark Falz?"
High Priest Lucian paused, looking worried for a split second before composing himself. He smoothed down his coat, and headed up the stairs.
"I haven't heard of this Dark Falz, none of our missionaries have reported anything like that. Then again, the missionaries seldom report anything except slammed doors and being chased by dogs. Still, I'd think I'd hear about it if it was so serious...how do you know of him? What do you know about him. Is he coming here? Is he after you?"

"Not for me, but a follower of him here? In this town? It means the Light is fading!" She said dramatically. She turned and walked a bit of a distance, pointing to the stairway.
"Dark Falz's followers, The Darkest, are master assassins. They hide in the shadows like cowards and attack when you least expect it, leaving naught a trace but the poor soul's corpse. You've seen what they can do! In the time I came down for breakfast a Darkest member snuck in and sliced up that poor chef! I've dealt with them before but barely made it out alive. I apparently angered the warlock somehow, possibly when I was attempting to save the life of someone in a burning carriage after a dragon attacked."
She turned to face the crowd, a look of determination puppeting her face.
"He's taken one too many lives in this town, I refuse to let him strike again! Dark Falz thrives on misery and darkness. We must do what we can to keep him at bay and I'll help you do that!"

High Priest Lucian frowned as Kelly said that the Light was fading. He shook his head, and raised his voice over the crowd.
"The Light cannot fade here. It remains brilliant as long as our faith remains strong. Are there any here who do not pledge their lives to the Light?"
The townsfolk shook their heads vehemently. Nobody wanted to be the one who didn't follow the Light.
"That's right. We all remain faithful, and the Light protects us all. Gregor was a good man, but a servant of darkness murdered him in cold blood. Everyone stay indoors and don't let anyone in who you don't know. Got that?"
The townsfolk nodded, glancing between Kelly and the priest.
"But High Priest Lucian...what about this Dark Falz that she's talking about? What if he comes to this town?"
Lucian shook his head.
"Don't worry about that. I'll deal with it. Come with me, Kelly dear."
He gestured for Kelly to follow him outside.

She nodded and followed him.
"I'm guessing you already knew that assassin would try something," She said to the priest as they walked, "Hence why you locked him up. I'm sorry for what happened to Gregor."

Lucian sighed, getting on his horse and gesturing for Kelly to get on behind him.
"I'd hoped that I was wrong, but yes. I thought he would try something. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry, but it wasn't safe enough. Poor Gregor. We'll have to find somewhere for his children now. They're very young, you know."
He rode towards the church, glancing around the streets for anyone suspicious-looking.
"We're going to the sanctuary, you'll be safe from the followers of darkness there."

"Sanctuary?"
Kelly raised an eyebrow as she hopped onto the horse with Lucian.
"You mean the church, right?"

"Yes, that's right. The inner sanctuary of the church, the most holy place in town."
He rode at full gallop, arriving in just a few minutes. Quickly hopping off, he tied the horse to a post and led Kelly inside. A crowd of people stood inside, deep in prayer. Ignoring them, Lucian led Kelly through a small door into an ornately-decorated, brightly-lit room.
"Stay here, the darkness can't get in here. Oh, and hold this."
He pulled a large crossbow from a closet and handed it to her.

Kelly had already begun to suspect what was going on. Before taking the crossbow, she crossed her arms and leaned on one leg as she looked to the priest.
"How long will I need to stay in there?" She asked, suspiciously.

Brother Heinrich von Schaufen
Established
Roleplay posts: 44
Age: 35
Physical Description: An average knight of average height and weight, with some added muscle - a result of the Brotherhood's hard conditioning. Heinrich stands 5'11 and weighs 190 lbs. He has dark blue eyes and short black hair, with chinstrap facial hair. He has a clear and generally cheerful expression.
**********
Clothes and Equipment: Heinrich wears chainmail armor, although it is a lighter type than what most Brothers wear. It covers his shoulders, torso, and area below his waist. Heinrich prefers speed and agility over a tight defense. Leather gloves, steel-plated leather boots, and leather leggings cover the rest of his body. A white surcoat hangs over his person, emblazoned with the black cross. When not fighting he wears a white cloak draped over his body.
Heinrich's round shield is made of wood, with metal lining. This is not like the other Brothers, who prefer heavier heater shields and tower shields. Heinrich finds the shield gives him enough protection against arrows and conventional melee weapons, while also allowing him to move freely about.
He carries a practical steel sword which is slightly shorter and thus lighter than other swords.
When necessary he carries a crossbow, bolts, dagger, and a lance.

After exterminating a local bandit hideout with @banditkelly Heinrich would find himself entering the Town of Lux; his allies established a camp on the outskirts of the town so as to not alarm the locals. He came in on his white horse, equipped with a heater shield and sword. He wielded a lance which he held upright, displaying a white pennant decorated with a black cross, a similar design on his shield. The citizens of Lux, as devoted and pious as they were, would probably recognize this man as an ally, for he was a Knight-Brother and had devoted his life to obedience, poverty, and chastity. He and his comrades fought in the name of justice, bringing Light to the Darkness wherever they went.
The Knight-Brother would enter the town slowly and peacefully until he came upon a citizen. "Hail and well met, friend," he began, "I am Heinrich von Schaufen, of the Brotherhood. My Knight-Brothers and I are patrolling the roads for trouble and will be passing through soon. Before we go, however, we will offer our aid in whatever way we can." The Knight looked around the village, giving it another once-over. "So, anything we can do for you?"

The High Priest turned to Kelly, distracted from the candle he was lighting.
"Hmm? Oh, you'll stay here until it's safe out there. Don't worry, it shouldn't be too long. You'll be alright in here, don't you worry. Stay safe here, and no followers of darkness will be getting you any time soon."
He turned away, and continued lighting candles. Meanwhile, outside the church, the citizens stared at the knight in shining armor. One worried-looking man stepped up.
"A-are you going to save us? I heard followers of darkness were wandering around. It's not safe to be outside right now. They killed Gregor, you know."

For once in her life, she never had been so happy to find a town. At this point, she didn't care as to who she might run into - maybe she could find a place to hide and rest. Shelter for a while, as she recovered. Granted, a fractured bone across both lengths of her right arm wouldn't just mend overnight.
The red and dark figure came stumbling from the trail, having rushed out of the brush and trees further along from the entry point by the road of the town - quite a desperate sight to see. Her form fitting leathers bore a number of tears and cuts - not likely to have been made by something on accident. The corset top was worn with the drawstrings almost ruined. At least her boots were still in good shape, and were doing well to carry her as fast as she could manage towards a place to possibly hide. She was colored in bruises and smelled of blood, and quite a bit stained her skin along her left side - the small gash on the corresponding side of her head being the source of it. The odd thing upon seeing her? Heavy steel shackles bearing only a few links of chain on them - one that remained clamped on her left arm from elbow to wrist, and one clapped onto the right ankle.
In her haste, she would likely be found or heard as she tripped and crashed to the ground just inside village territory.

Several townsfolk saw the figure stumble from the woods and hurried over. Who was this? Why were there so many newcomers lately? They stared at her, unsure as of what to do. She seemed to be hurt, but the High Priest had told them not to have any contact with newcomers. After all, there were followers of darkness around. For all they knew, she could be the one who murdered Gregor! Still, she looked harmless, and the torn corset certainly helped her case. After a brief discussion, the decision was made to help her, but keep an eye on her. A few brave townsfolk ran to @ivana, kneeling beside her.
"Who are you? Do you need help? Come with us, we can help you. Why were you chained?"
They looked concerned, but also afraid, as though the stranger might attack at any moment.

One look from her eyes would tell those that came to help that she was as wary of them as they were of her, despite her situation. She made a brief glance over her shoulder, just to make sure there wasn't someone on her tail. All it would take is a word from them and it would be over - she wouldn't have a friend here.
Her frantic eyes came back to those smothering her, and she swallowed hard before taking a breath. "Please... I just need to rest. Just somewhere to, to lie down. I won't cause any trouble. I just need a little corner or something. Anything."
Please don't let those knights show up here.

The townsfolk lifted Ivana to her feet, helping her into one of the houses. There, the sat her down on a rather lumpy couch and gave her a mug of hot tea.
"Where did you come from, Miss? Who chained you up like that?"
The helpful townsfolk watched her nervously, whispering among themselves. Ivana might overhear mention of "might be dangerous" and "High Priest". Eventually, they seemed to come to a consensus and one of the townsfolk hurried out the door. The others approached Ivana.
"Don't worry, Miss. Help is on its way, ok?"

Ivana was a little unsure but didn't fight as they helped her to her feet and led her into someone's home - even going so far as to sit her down with a beverage. She hoped that they didn't fret too much over how cold her skin might have been to the touch and indulged in the drink - feeling the warmth for only seconds before it faded. One of the downsides of her person.
She didn't want to look anyone in the eye when they posed more questions - and the idea of a priest? High priest? It made her nervous. Very. But she tried not to tremble so much, clutching the mug in both hands.
"I... some crazy men. I dunno what they wanted. They grabbed me, slapped me in shackles. Kept raving about being possessed by the devil or something. I didn't do anything to them. They dragged me through the hills and trees for a while... I think two days. I dunno where they were taking me."
The woman prayed they would take some sympathy - if they would, then if those knights showed up she might be able to get a little help in evading them. And that this priest they were whispering about didn't figure out what she was.

The townsfolk nodded at her tale, becoming visibly more worried. What if the woman's captors came to the town to look for her? Yesterday the hooded dark figure showed up, and now this? Newcomers were nothing but trouble.
"Well...we'll try to keep you safe. Hopefully those knights that just showed up will be able to help with that. They seem like respectable people, after all."

On instinct her head snapped up, the rest of the her pale complexion draining from her face. She almost crushed the mug between her hands, catching herself in time and easing her hold before her nature started to become apparent.
But she managed to swallow the lump in her throat and keep her voice steady. "Knights...? There's... some here?" she asks, trying to sound more curious than worried.

You might not believe me when I mention some great evil, but I promise you there is a shady person running loose in the town right now. If we don't stop him it might not just be Gregor that dies. I don't need to be locked up." Without looking back, Kelly stomped out of the church and into the open, hopefully to see Brother Heinrich von Schaufen as he entered the town. "Finally, a sight for sore eyes." She said with a sigh, going up to him. (This takes place after the bandit raid, for reference)

Feanor was told to go to the house as the woman was brought in, the town's doctor running around like a headless chicken screaming about followers of darkness. His longsword, bow, and arrows were all in their proper places, but it was his healing kit that he carried with him as he walked up the house, shouldering his way past the townsfolk.
"Ma'am, are you alright? I am a healer, among many other things." He said, his voice calm and reassuring. The threat of someone being a "follower of darkness" meaning little to the Ranger.
