"But you seem so kind and patient to me.And though you aren't like me in blood, you understand how it feels to be... apart from the rest of humanity." She said still smiling grandly her cheeks tinted red. "And I have no other friends anywhere so... to have someone say they would like to be friends with someone.... like me- Tainted and apart as I am- It's just... Thank you so much." She said as she shifted a bit sheepish.
"I haven't really gotten to talk with another woman either since... my mother passed away so... It's nice knowing I might have someone like that again." She said before she looked at Alden. Not wanting to be rude to him, she gently touched the top of his hand. "Thank you for being kind to me as well. I see it may be difficult for you, but I appreciate it. Very much so."

Physical Description: Alden is 6 even, with shoulder length messy black hair, and several days worth of beard stubble. He is handsome, with a powerful jaw, mid set cheek bones, and a perpetual grin that makes him seem younger than he really is. His bright green eyes, constantly sparkle with barely contained mirth. He has the lithe well muscled body of a swordsmen, and he moves with considerable grace and dexterity.
If one where to take more thorough examination of Alden's eyes they may notice a further detail. Around the outside edge of his iris's there's an intricate series of minuscule grey runes.
Alden rarely removes his shirt, but should someone see him with it off, they would find his body to be covered in scar tissue. Starting from just below his neckline, there is very little space that does not sport some relic of a past injury. A particularly observant person may also note that among these scars, some are a bright scarlet. These scarlet scars form an intricate series of runes hiding among the others.
Those of a more magical bent may be able to decipher the runes in his eyes and on his skin. Identifying them as sigils more commonly found on magical items. The most obvious effect of the runes on his body, are increased speed, strength, and durability.
The runes on his eyes give him the ability to detect magical auras and residue, as well as allowing him to see through low level illusions and glamours. They also maintain his vision regardless of the current light level, and even if there is a sudden shift. His eyes are also capable of dropping into the infrared spectrum in complete darkness.
The rune work on his body enhances his natural strength, speed, endurance, durability, and reflexes to almost super human levels. The effects make him a formidable opponent for most magical creatures though only because they are supplemented by exceptional skill.
This means that all though he is almost super human in a straight contest of strength or speed he would most likely loose to most other magically enhanced humanoids such as vampires or were wolves.
Alden's runes also greatly increase his healing rate allowing him to recover from injuries that would normally take a few months for a person to recover from in a few short weeks. Not only do Alden's runes accelerate healing they also enhance it. A normal persons body will repair itself until it is functioning again then stop, thanks to the runes Alden's body will continues to fix itself until it is in near perfect condition. His healing abilities enhance his already prodigious stamina as it repairs muscle damage and lactic build up and it also increases longevity as he does not accumulate long term damage as most people do.
Finally his body runes provide protection from people attempts to find him magically. Detection spells will be obfuscated their readings on his location being off by about 20 meters. Long distance scrying and tracking spells are only able to narrow down his area to somewhere within a mile radius. It should be noted that these protections can be overcome by someone with sufficient power or ingenuity.
His runes cannot be removed unless they are cut off of his body using an appropriate ritual knife and magic. If the runes are disrupted in any other way they will simply grow back in a few weeks time.
The final thing that only someone versed in rune craft and enchanting would be able to tell is this: The process of these runes being carved into his bodies would have been unbelievably painful. A normal person would have been driven insane or to suicide if they had this happen to them. During the carving process un-directed magical energies would begin to take hold and tear apart your soul. The pain this would not cease until the rune pattern was completed. This means the pain caused would be on a spiritual and physical level of incredible magnitude.

The random act of hug is observed by Alden who doesn't show any overt reaction. When it is finished and Amaya is touching his hand he looks at it, then at her, then he cocks his head to one side. "I haven't been kind." He says sounding slightly perplexed. So far as he knew, he hadn't done anything that could be considered kind beyond talk to the woman. Even that was iffy territory since people talked to other people all the time.
"But I suppose you are welcome regardless." He says offer her a small smile. It was an odd smile since it doesn't seem to be fake but not quite real. It was the smile of a man who wanted to let people know he was happy with them but didn't quite know how to do so. So he simply did his best to try and be... pleasant.

Age: 26
Physical Description: Kauri has a complexion so pale that she seems to mimic the glow of the moon. Atop her head stands two long, thin coppery horns that seem unnervingly sharp at their tips.
Her eyes are similar to a cat's with a bright yellow iris and a slit pupil. The fingers on her right hand seem shorter and are fixed with long, sturdy claws most useful for climbing.
---------------------------------------------------------
Clothes and Equipment: -----------------------------------------------------------
Kauri's clothes seem somewhat colorful, sometimes scarce and sometimes superfluous depending on the ever-changing weather of her home. They're always slightly decorative, but sewn and forged with purpose.
She wears small amounts of armor, such as braces, breastplates, and greaves, but they're usually very small and are built more for movement than they are for protection.
She is skilled with a bow and sword, both of which she carries with her consistently. None of her weapons are terribly special, but they're sturdy and well made.

The interaction was unorthodox, sure, but Kauri was nearly used to it at this point. Everyone in the court was some kind of strange, though none of them seemed like particularly bad people. She supposed they all were like that.
"Well, I'm not sure I'm the best person to go to for that kind of thing," laughed the chimera. "But... I think I know exactly where you're coming from. My sister passed away not so long ago, either. It's unearthly quiet after that happens, isn't it?"
Looking at Alden, she grins. She knew that he was struggling, but that he was making the effort was everything in the moment. She wondered if she could speak to him later about this event.

“Ah, yes, it was a fight I almost wish I could remember the details of, but honestly it was a blur.” He said as he absentmindedly rubbed his arm. His ulna had been snapped like a twig and his humorous had been fractured when he’d been slammed against the sarcophagus, the pain making that memory clear as ice. “I barely made it out of that room alive, and I didn’t manage it unharmed. It took me another couple of hours to work my way out of that labyrinth but once I did I managed to get myself back on my horse and get home. Those couple of days back were their own specially sort of hell, though they helped me a few times down the line.” He laughed quietly, a grim smile curving his lips. “Mother was furious, father was proud though he didn’t say as much while she was around. I wasn’t allowed off the grounds for a year.” This time the laugh was more genuine. “I should visit soon. It’s been too long.”

"You have been rather kind to me." Amaya corrected Alden with a chuckle. "You let me sit with you and Miss Kauri. And you let me know that Kauri and I might be becoming friends. I think that was plenty nice of you." Amaya gave a soft smile as she went back to her seat and carefully sat down as she thought about what Kauri said then, pursing her lips. "It is... Momma was the only one to really accept me fully as I am. At least the only human. She accepted me as I was, faults and all." She mused as she picked up her glass to take a sip of water. "I still have my father, of course, but he... he wants something different than what I want with my life."
She dwelt on that a moment before she shook herself before turning back to them with a smile. "I just want to embrace my humanity for as long as I can."

Alden was of the opinion that these were not acts of kindness. After all, he'd only told her the truth as he'd seen it and that was not anything special. However, he didn't think it was worth correcting her when she was happy. "I've been embracing my humanity for quite a while. Or trying to, it is not as easy as I would like." Alden notes with a sad chuckle.

Amaya gave him a slightly more pained smile at that. "I know well what you mean." She said giving a slight wince. "Painfully well unfortunately. I'd like to say though, I think we are both doing pretty well. I think you have a good guide from the looks of it though. So you might be just a bit better off that me." She said with a slight gesture at Kauri, a more genuine smile lighting up her face. "Out of curiousity, and also for reference... where did you two meet?"

His skin is weathered from his life on the road, with the first wrinkles of age appearing at the sides of his mouth and his eyes, and thick calluses on his right hand from wielding his sword. His light brown hair has been sheered to a fade parted on the right side, and his strong chin that was once covered by thick goatee has been shaved to stubble, but his thick mustache has remained. His most prominent feature is a thick scar and his missing left eye, which he covers with a black eyepatch, which he lost in a fight with a bear.

It was probably for the better anyways, it prevented one from ingraining too many mistakes... or perhaps it was the opposite, he couldn't quite be sure. He swallowed his bit of steak before replying, perhaps a bit of raw emotion in his voice, perhaps just the champagne speaking, "From an older and gristlier man to a younger, I would highly recommend seeing your family as frequently as possible. You never know when you're not going to have that opportunityanymore."

Wuppo had just put the last bit of turkey into his mouth, and pulled it off of the spoon with his teeth with a yank when Keph began slamming his hand onto the table. This loud unexpected noise made Wuppo flinch, and snap his head back to lock his attention on Keph. The man was coughing, and managed to stop whatever had started the fit before Wuppo decided to intervene - which was likely the best case scenario for the ogre and Keph alike. Wuppo gave a bit of a humming chortle at himself; a great big ogre being startled by a man when he was only coughing - and the man was so small to boot. His dinner partner seemed fine. That is, he seemed fine until the man slammed both of his hands down on the table again, this time not coughing. Keph was on his feet. This was a clear sign of aggression, and Keph's quick and curt hand movements brought Wuppo to his feet as well. Wuppo had long been in the habit of simply leaving the presence of aggressive humans, unless there was some other reason for him to stay and hold his ground. Without the ability to talk himself out of these rare situations, 'holding his ground' for the ogre almost always meant violence. But, luckily, this was a prime example of a situation Wuppo was willing to leave. He'd lose nothing by simply walking away from the table, and the man that did not appreciate his polite conversation and carefully practiced dinner etiquette. Wuppo might have walked away, if Keph had not begun writing. Wuppo had seen aggressive humans shout, brandish spears, swords, bows, torches, and even rakes and shovels.. But he'd never seen one write. In fact he'd very rarely saw writing at all. The ogre's want to simply leave seemed to dissolve slightly by this curiosity he was witnessing. As Keph raised the note up to Wuppo, the man would find that the ogre's face was somewhere about 10 feet in the air - Wuppo's full standing height away. Wuppo reached down with his left hand (the other still holding the spoon), and plucked the notebook away from Keph with his thumb and index finger. Wuppo held the notebook up to his face. He squinted. The ogre had perfectly fine eyesight, and could see the symbols on the page, but squinted he did anyway. Wuppo held the notebook upside down, then left-ways, then right-ways, looking at the symbols on the page. He sniffed the notebook, half masticated turkey still rolling around in his mouth. "Wuppo sees dis a'fore." he said, switching his focus back to Keph, but still holding his notebook. "Wuppo see dem! Wiff da inks, an' da papers. Have stick! Write wiff stick. Dem reads da marks wiff stick." Wuppo looked at the markings on the page again, "I'z not reads da marks. Wize Otta! Him reads da marks to Wuppo. You come. We'z go to Wize Otta, him read da marks." Wuppo turned, and began walking towards the Empress Naoki's Table, which happened to be clear across the dining tent. If Keph wanted his notebook back, he would have to follow Wuppo as he sought his friend's help unraveling the mysteries of the note.

How strange that all three of them struggled with the same thing, just in three very different ways. Alden, who was nothing but human, having his emotions and childhood ripped away from him. Amaya, struggling with a side of her that was very much not human.
And then Kauri, who constantly looked in the mirror, trying to convince herself that the chimera she was did not mean that she was any less human on the inside. It wasn't even about being human, to a point. It was being who she used to be.
For Amaya to bring up the exact subject that had wormed its way into the woman's thoughts was quite the coincidence. She had to think back on it for a moment, herself, as she'd been putting that island out of her mind as often as she could. "Oh, well... at the Sun Marshal's Headquarter's, yes? I was begging him to help me... us, the survivors of Paradise. Oh, thinking back, it's rather embarrassing. I almost fainted!"

Amaya blinked as her head slowly cocked to the side looking a bit confused. "The survivors of... Paradise? What do you mean by that?" She asked her brow slightly furrowed. She'd never heard of such a place though her travels were just beginning after all so it was possible she just hadn't encountered it yet. But the statement seemed like a very peculiar oxymoron. If a place was "paradise" how could someone be a survivor? It was supposed to be a nice place wasn't it?

"As I recall you weren't looking for me specifically," Alden notes as he recalls the events of that day. "In fact, when I told you who I was you didn't believe me at first." Which hadn't made a great deal of sense to him, after all, who would be silly enough to claim to be him? That was a good way to get into quite a bit of trouble.
"Kauri's people were the survivors of a shipwreck that left them stranded on Paradise Island. The locals had turned hostile and started to abduct people, I assisted in getting everyone evacuated." He leaves out the part where he killed quite a number of the monsterous locals in order to accomplish this. That seemed like poor dinner talk.

The chimera chuckled. "Assisted, he says. As though it wasn't his entire fault that I'm here today and not laying in pieces at the bottom of a cavern. Or melted in a vat of acid. Or turned to hive by- you know what, details aside, this man is my hero, and that's ultimately what brought us together. I'm not sure if anyone else could have done the job the same way."

Physical Description: She has pale blue hair that is rather jagged and cut short (she cuts her own hair with a knife). Her eyes are a golden color that looks much like lightning ripping across the sky. When her powers are active, it looks like lightning is running through her veins. Her ears are pointed and long. She stands at about 6 foot and her nails are normal unless she is feeling beastly when they can grow into talons. Otherwise, she appears as a normal human. Also... horns.
Clothes and Equipment: It looks as though she is constantly wearing a tattered black cloak, but it is actually her wings folded over her body that are pretty durable against attacks. She wears light armor underneath her wings typically and dresses lightly. Though she is not a fan of dresses and skirts or any clothing that restricts her movement, if it necessary or particularly unique, she can be convinced to wear it. She wields a broad sword in case of emergency but prefers to fight hand to hand.

Amaya listened intently turning from Alden to Kauri back to Alden and blinked surprised as she pushed around food on her plate. That was rather curious. Never before when she had saved someone whether on purpose or by coincidence did they develop feelings for her. Or did they foster into some type of relationship. Was it her? Was it a common occurrence? Or were they a rare instance?
"Does that often happen when one's savior ends up becoming their...excuse me if I phrase this wrong... partner? I've never had such a thing occur to me... Or is it just me? Oh I hope it's not... I try to be friendly when I can be..." She said as she bit her lip. Though conjuring a great storm might turn anyone off from being someone's friend.

"Saving people is part of my day to day work." Alden says eying Amaya and not looking at Kauri. For some reason, her referring to him as her hero made him want to fidget in his seat and looking at her right at that moment made the feeling worse. "Its a rather rare occurrence that you see the person you saved after the event."

The chimera couldn't help it. At first, she tried biting her lips and that didn't work. Then, she tried to put her hand over her mouth, to no effect. Eventually, she burst out into a fit of giggles.
"Goodness, goodness, no, no. This was chance... or perhaps fate. Either way, I very much doubt it's you. After all, you seem quite pleasant, but you're also quite young. It takes time to find someone special, you know? It's not something you force or even something you really seek out. It's just something that happens when the time is right."

Amaya seemed to be holding onto every word Kauri said and slowly nodded along as she listened to what she said. So it would come with time then. She couldn't help but wonder if her mother had really thought her father was the one Kauri spoke of. Again, she was almost tempted to bring it up with her father but- No. That was a beast that probably should be prodded. She liked the relationship they had begun to develop. Other than the whole... gentle prodding to open a portal to enslave the mortal realm.
"... I see... But then, how do you know it's right? The right time or the right person? Like... do you two know?" She asked again, her curiosity again circumventing her manners.

Alden looked between the woman for a second and then cocked his head to the side, his expression going blank. At some point, he'd lost the thread of this conversation and he wasn't sure what they were talking about anymore. Something to do with relationships, that much was obvious based on context, and he assumed they were speaking of knowing if you had the right partner.
However, they were speaking about as though there was some kind of... Magical sense you should have when you found the right person. That didn't make any sense at all to Alden if there was a mystical connection he'd have been able to see it when he looked at any number of couples. He decided to wait to see if they would clarify at all.

A little shocked by the question, Kauri opened her mouth to speak, pausing to look back at Alden as she did. "We... we're figuring it out," she told Amaya, turning to look back at her. "It's... a process. You don't know right away and I can't really tell you exactly what that's like because love is... it's different for every person. You appreciate different things in everyone you come to love, so the way you feel for them won't be the same as how I feel for Alden. It's why, if you fall in love a second time, it's never the same. It's not supposed to be. It's a personal thing. A special thing."
Falling in love a second time isn't something she had experienced before, though she had been smitten many times. It was something her father and sister had gone through, however, and she had gotten many chances to hear those stories and hear their wisdom.
"Let's just say it's... not something you keep minding. It comes about rather naturally. When you know, you'll know."

"When you know... You'll know..." She repeated Kauri's words slowly, nodding to herself as she processed everything she'd been told. It still didn't make complete sense to her- in fact, love sounded a bit terrifying and vague if she was honest- but it didn't seem like it was supposed to be straight forward. Which again, didn't seem appealing to her in the slightest. She knew how to fight. She knew how to control her powers. She understood the basics of spell casting and was well read. She even knew the basics of manners and how to communicate with people to show she wasn't a threat.
She liked tangible things. Things she could deconstruct and understand how they worked. And things she could practice and hone and study. It didn't seem like love was one of those things.
"I don't know... If I'd like something like that to be honest. It seems... turbulent. And that's coming from a half storm demoness... And I know from experience... It usually doesn't end up well for those involved... Why bother with something like that?" She asked still looking genuinely curious. "... And I'm sorry. I know this probably isn't what pleasant dinner conversation is supposed to be."
